                     Ross

Banks     Jones   Baines   Jones

Amaluzor Marriott  Osborne  CCC

              Linney     Angus

Angus looked sharp at the weekend so hopefully him and linney play up top together.
Kosylo to come off the bench and score the winner on his return (2-1 alty)

CCC is half the player out wide.

Linney up top and Angus to come and partner later in the game.....

Need to be having :-

Striker
No. 10
2 wide players to start the game.

Elliott Osborne did well yesterday, so he'll start alongside Isaac.

Longer term, if Joey Jones has fitness issues... is it time to resurrect the debate about whether Kossy can convert to a deeper midfield role? He's not getting any younger and as sharp as he's looked in pre season, he's come back from a serious injury and he's never going to have the explosive turn of pace that the Justins / Cricky have.

Would probably give away some silly fouls, but from a ball retention point of view I doubt it could be much worse than what Elliott showed us last season.

Kossy in midfield would be a bad idea.
He wouldn't have the legs for it.
He and Marriot would be the smallest CM in the league.
My main concern about losing Lundstram, is we could play with just two in there, comfortably, as they covered so much ground. Very fit players.
Both Lundstram and Marriott could drive us forward. Elliott hasn't got that ability, very much side to side, short passes.
I am hoping Joey Jones gets himself fit, but I just have a bad gut feeling he will be injured a lot.

If he's not got the legs for central midfield, then surely it stands that he wouldn't have the legs for left wing - where he's almost certain to start on Saturday? There's plenty of examples of players dropping into deeper roles later in their careers, e.g. Giggs - in fact, Ben Pringle did it for us too.

For me, he'll still have the stamina but not the turn of pace to make a difference in going past people like he uaed to be able to. Having spent time out together he'd partner well with Isaac too.

We probably also need his sh*thousery in the middle of the park to diffuse some games.

Just a thought, but I'm sure Parky would agree with you on it.

I get what he's saying. Midfielders cover the most ground, wingers have short bursts of pace

As stated above, CM will cover a lot more ground. Steady running over distance, as also mentioned, wingers do short bursts, which will suit Kossy more.

Just hoping Jones will be fit enough to start.

I haven't seen any pre season. Are we confident Banks has stepped up in the last two games? It has sounded like he has over the radio.

Won't happen but would like to see the below. Donawa and Amaluzor would be immense together.

                      Ross

Donawa.   Jones.   Baines.   Jones

                 Marriott.     Jones

   Amaluzor.   Con-Clarke.   Kossy.

                          Linney

If Joey Jones isn't fit then Wilson in CM.

Still a CM short.

Subs Angus, Banks, Roscoe, Wilson, Osborne

Good signing.

Hard but important decision made by Phil.

This should hopefully allow Ollie to go out on loan to build his confidence, with less pressure.

Could this be the only friendly I can remember where I care about the result? 🤔

I don't even care about the result. We won't send many first teamers into sheep country anyway.

#ratherplaytrafford

2nd to last pre season game

Being played on the Wed for longer recovery.

We will be playing our strongest 11 and I hope we do.

I hate Macc and any game against them is so important.

Would like to see :-

                               Byrne

Donowa       J.Jones    Baines       E.Jones

           Jo.Jones               Marriott

  Amaluzor             CCC               Kossy

                             Linney

Think a right side of Donowa, overlapping Amaluzor would be mega. Would create so much chaos for the opposition.

                  Marriott      Jo.Jones

     Amaluzor       Conn-Clarke           Kossy

                              Linney

Wish we'd kept Harry Perritt; better than what we have.

I never saw Michael Gyasi so I'm not even convinced he existed!

My opinion is that Perritt is overrated. He was very average on his return.

Before the Dagenham game the fanzone will have a sail roof in place over the decked area and also a roof around the side, and the toilets are going in behind the kiosks. It should be brilliant when it’s done.

Brill. Excited to see it.

He could be the future at GK for a long time. It's not yet.

I want an Alty lad between the sticks more than almost anything. Performing to the standard required is a must.

We brought in Drench to bring out the best in Thompson, we need to do the conference equivalent of that now.

Correct and Drench is a decent goalkeeping coach aswell. That worked.

It's a tough one this because I'd imagine J Jones and Isaac would be first choice cm with both CCC and Kossy able to do 10. Effectively, another CM would be a squad player.

I agree but do we all think Joey Jones is going to perfom every week....
Lundstram had massive boots.
I would argue we need to have 3 quality CMs and I think all would get minutes. Osborne can't be our main back up.

It's a horrible situation this. Ollie's dad has got a point and he has made me feel differently about fans condemning a young kid obviously doing his best.

Unfortunately, it's not working for either Alty or Ollie. For him to be taken out of the limelight and get a loan move to Conference North/NPL would massively benefit both parties, particularly Ollie

Yes he does have a point but should realise it’s nothing personal but it is professional football, a harsh world.

However, does he necessarily need a loan somewhere? I think he suffers a bit from being the only viable option in goals. It means no matter what form he’s in he’s in the firing line, that can’t be good? I think he’d benefit from competition and a little less pressure in some ways.

I think it would also stop people getting on his back so much. People are a bit jumpy because there’s no obvious alternative.

I would say I think there’s a keeper in there though, certainly more there was than with Andrew Dawber who we mentioned on another thread.

Agree with this. We need to sign a number 1.
1) For Ollie to learn from
2) Give Ollie the fire in his belly to get the shirt back.
It's the way we should go.
Should never have kept Gould on.

I was quite pleased with what I saw in the first half and thought we deserved our half time lead.
Obviously with all the changes at half time I wasn’t too worried or surprised that Stockport went on to win.

CCC Kossy and Linney were good and the central defenders looked good.

What did, and has been worrying me is that the lad Byrne is blatantly not good enough, and neither is Gould.

On my way out after the final whistle I did speak to our Joint Chairman and said to him, if we don’t invest in another goalkeeper then we will struggle this coming season.

I think that I am in the majority of Alty fans who think this.
I have no Gripe with Ollie or his family, I just think that if this club is really serious about an upward progression then funds must be made available before we meet Dagenham & Redbridge on the 5th August.

Correct. It is nothing personal.
This season could fizzle out before it starts, unless we solve the matter.
This includes CM aswell, unless we can have Maxi on loan.
Two of the most important positions are currently weak.

I think you will find that we cannot use any MUFC players for loan purposes until the New Year

Thank you.

Never knew that. Then we need to sign another CM.
