Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Alty press cuttings and other memorabilia.

Wow yeah that was a massive o.g. by them , maybe the real reason was finance related but defo no ambition to get back in the League again .
Fascinating reading through all the results , no one could have predicted then that the likes of Harrogate , Crawley , Fleetwood , Forest Green , Sutton , Accy , Morecambe , Salford , Burton etc etc would ever be League clubs and then there were all those that came and went like Rushden & D  ,
Dagenham & R , Scarborough and the like.

Brilliant stuff mate . I will reply in full when i study in more detail but for now i noticed in the 'minor' results that Salford Amateurs ( now Salford City ) lost 1-0 to North Withington in the Manchester League Cup. Of all the results in the Pink that day strangely that one took my eye more than most !!!

Fabulous memories once again Ukrainian . I went to every game bar Workington away on the 78 run and can remember bits about every game . I felt a Wembley tingle after we beat a very good Matlock in the 3rd round . Apart from a Heathcote 'special' v Winsford all i can recall is our resident DJ Neal Davies announcing over the tannoy after the last goal "Jeffrey Johnson gerrin our 4th,  that surely ties it up" and upsetting the Winsford fans in the stand ! That semi was as tense as it gets with both teams feeling the pressure . Good old Mally took that off big time  , Wembley here we come . The final was expected to be another 'battle' but we came out totally focused  with our 'game on' heads while the leatherheads were waving to their mates etc in the crowd , game over .The Trophy win was the start of our great and unforgettable era at the pinnacle of the non league world. Wonderful to witness all of that ....just like now actually.  Looking forward to your next instalment  , i sincerely hope you are ok , i wish you well.

Very similar to the Barnet game, except that we kept the energy and workrate up until the end this time, a massive positive and must bode well for the future.
Eastleighs' training session at Old Trafford on Friday didn't do them much good!
So our 'arrangement with Utd is for them to spook our opponents prior to the game then, Great idea !!!
The lads are simply oozing confidence i really believe the Chesterfield game proved we are the real deal despite the result . Lest we forget we were amongst the teams expected to struggle in some quarters . Proud  to be Alty forever 😍

Other than what i have learned on here i know very little about drainige systems , water tables etc . What i do know is that we have beem plying our trade on this hallowed turf for 114 years of which i have been watching the action for almost halt of that. Other than the last 5 seasons or so i honestly can't recall our pitch being that problematical the previous 50 and certainly nowhere near the level of games lost due to waterlogging issues . We never had covers or the like over that time either and even for the times our reserves played here (and rugby too!) there must have been periods of rainfall similar down the years and the pitch always held up really well in the past. I've probably missed something here but i don't quite get it to be honest.

It's truly devastating news to all you devoted fans Aussie Shaymen . I sincerely hope there is a silver lining for you all from some avenue along the way for it does'nt look good at all atm . Halifax have a proud history , i even remember when you hammered Man City 1-0 in the FA cup in 1980 !
In this chapter of your adventure you have become one of Alty's main and most respected rivals and we have had many close and exciting battles down the years . I'm sure i speak for all at Alty in wishing you the best and better times ahesd .

You tell me. At the meeting yesterday between SUFC, AFC and a local official (who attended today and postponed the game) it wasn't Southend who wanted either the inspection or the postponement. That only leaves two others, and I suspect it was the local ref but it may well have been Alty too (seriously doubt that, but you never know).

To lighten things a tad , can you arrange for that clown of a ref to get dumped off the end of that fab pier of yours .😔

What's everyone's beef (or should that be tofu?) with FGR? Why don't we like them again?

Google should give you a less biased version but i'll give you an unfiltered Alty fans pov.

That f**king C**t C*lin P*ake f**king f**ked us over a f**king unregistered player that f**king Accrington had f**king forgotten to f**king sort international f**king clearance for.

Lost 18 points, survived the season because someone else went out of business.
Brilliant 👍

Be sad to see Nuneaton disappear , they were one of our main challengers in the early years of the APL and have had a number of good FA cup runs of note too . Beat Stoke and drew with Middlesborough in the noughties .  Largest town in Warwickshire with near 90,000 population.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Chesterfield Match Thread

Well that was a very encouraging performance against a really excellent side. Chesterfield are by far the best team in this league but we battled well even with Ross having to drop out so late on. I think it’s one of those where yes we have lost the match but the performance levels were still there and against any other side in the league we’d have probably picked something up tonight.

Not as important to the playoff push as Saturday might be, I think everyone will probably lose to them but we ran them close and were perhaps unlucky not to pick up a point.

I thought Gould actually did fine overall although I agree with others that Ross might have saved the first one. It’s always tricky for a keeper when they’re not playing every week anyway but to suddenly get thrown in so close to kick off adds an extra dimension to it all.  It does highlight how integral Ross has been to where we are this season, however.

In terms of subs, Linney had a brilliant game…just so dangerous on the ball and creative. His part for our equaliser was superb but I do think he was exhausted so no harm in bringing Angus on at that point who does have it in him. I thought Amaluzor looked a bit off it when he came on and probably didn’t quite have enough time to get into the game. I’m not sure if him not starting is tactical or that he’s carrying a knock?

Anyway, decent performance but Chesterfield are 12 points clear for a reason and found a way again like title winners tend to do.
On point and in full agreement Golf Roader .  The Spireites are a League 1 side in all but name and we went toe to toe with them for the full 90 .  It actually reminded me of the cup games against Pompey and Colchester from that division where we deserved better but conceded to late winners.   As a point of interest i looked up the final League 1 table the season of the latter defeat , 2016 . The line up included SC**thorpe 7th , Rochdale 10th , Southend 14th , Bury 16th , Oldham 17th and Chesterfield 18th and all clear of the bottom four of course . How times change , football ....bloody hell.!

Mixed feelings . The last post makes so much sense of the bigger picture and the managers take on the matter which these days includes the majority of managerial trends everywhere re cup footie.   On the other hand yet another season will fly by without tasting the sweetness cup success always brings .  The unforgettable memories of 1978 Trophy and Liverpool , Everton et al are etched into the history of our great club forever yet these are now such distant memories only us older fans can cherish.
