I only ever use Twitter to check the line-ups before kick off. I can live without that.

Twitbook?

Why are we boycotting social media?
It's because reading anything in the aftermath of the Notts County game would be too upsetting.

Not this time (apart from that miss)

Hopefully the club will take a similar approach when considering Jordan Hulme signing after he was sacked for online social media comments.

Everyone makes mistakes Jack. Look at Colclough.

I would have Jordan back tomorrow. Jesus, we missed him more than any other player this season.

Things happen off the pitch but nothing under PP and Sorvs. I just want us back winning and Jordan without any doubt would make us much better.
We've spent the season moaning that Tom Peers is not Jordan Hulme. When we first signed him, I thought it was an extraordinary piece of luck. From a footballing point of view, that remains the case if we re-sign him (is this actually likely. According to my beliefs, everyone deserves a second chance, though I understand other people have different beliefs, and that there are "political" considerations. If we start banning every fan who says something nasty on social media... a Goole fan already got banned for slamming a referee, so be careful! And if anyone wants to call me a cabbage eating freak... :)

Worst since Hereford sacked that manager who got them promotion. Though Hughton at Brighton was pretty shabby. And Clough at Derby (Nigel not Brian)

You tease!

I worry that no one will take polls seriously again...

In Prittlewell. Any news on Swindon, or were they always going to be alright?

Didn't Grimsby Town fluff a certain vote once?

Get the richter scales ready if the Hampden Stamp catches on!

Moor Green's ground was a sad loss to non-league. I remember bouncing about on that wooden terrace that got burnt down - those  were the days! (Allegedly, stamping is the way forward for fans!).

I thought the thing about Moult was that he was knackered, part time and not getting any younger.

If Smith and the new lad don't play - Alty 0-1 Barnet. There, I've not put a jinx on it.

Of course, if Smith is back and this new lad is any good, it could be different, these dynamic midfielders can make a big difference sometimes - think of Carmo. But of course, Barnet will see it as one they can win too.

Looks like I'm the only realist! :)

To be fair, it's worse than I thought - Smith did play...

P.S. a bit different from 1991. Yes, they probably all have mobile phones now!

So Grimsby are relegated from the EFL Div2 tonight... plus Southend are almost certain to join them (as they are 6pts from safety with 2 games to play)...

Hence, couple of extra seaside trips on the cards if away fans allowed... they may not be Blackpool, Whitby, or Scarborough but still a trip to the coast...

Unless Swindon go bankrupt. There was a rumour on the Football League Show along those lines but I haven't heard anything since, so hopefully they'll get it sorted. (Incidentally, a disgrace what happened to the npl - again. I see they are completing Scottish leagues 1 and 2 (sort of) - surely a similar standard of football).

Excerpts from Jordan Hulme's recent disciplinary hearing:

IN THE MATTER OF A FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION INDEPENDENT REGULATORY COMMISSION BETWEEN: THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION and MR JORDAN HULME; AFC FYLDE.

WRITTEN REASONS AND DECISION OF THE INDEPENDENT REGULATORY COMMISSION FOLLOWING THE HEARING ON 1 APRIL 2021

The Facts

7. Mr. Hulme signed for AFC Fylde in or around October 2020. Prior to that he was contracted to Altrincham FC and, before that Salford City FC. He started his career as a Non-League Player and has played at various clubs from the age of 18.

8. Mr. Hulme has not received any training in social media usage or best practice. He has 3,826 followers on his official UK Instagram account. This is a public account which is open to anyone to follow him and view the content that appears on his Instagram page and story board.

9. On 7 January 2021 he published an Instagram story on his Instagram account. This post was a screen shot of a newspaper article displaying the headline: “Wu Joking?” along with the comments: “Wuhan mocks UK’s Covid hell, vows to hold more parties and tells Brits to ‘get used to it’”. Below the screen shot of the newspaper article, Mr. Hulme added the comment: “Bat eating freaks” along with an emoji of a bat and a further emoji of someone being sick. The post deleted automatically after 24 hours.

10. Mr. Hulme’s girlfriend had contracted the virus over the Christmas period. They had hosted their family, including elderly grandparents. Two days after Christmas his girlfriend’s symptoms began, and after this, others in the family quickly became infected. His grandfather suffers with poor health and there was concern that if he contracted the virus he may not survive. Thankfully, this was not the case. However, it was during this stressful time, and whilst awaiting the results of his grandfather’s Covid test that he posted the article and the comments. Given the health risks to his family member, to which he had been looking into the Covid 19 virus online, there were a number of ‘sponsored posts’ which had started to appear on his Instagram feed. He stated that the post was directed at the cause of the outbreak and the people that had chosen to eat bats.

Conclusion 36.

The Regulatory Commission came to the unanimous decision, having carefully considered the relevant factors, and have imposed the following sanction;

(i) He is suspended from all domestic club football with immediate effect until such time as the Club with which he is registered have completed SIX First Team competitive Matches in an approved competition.

(ii) Fined the sum of £900.

(iii) Ordered to attend a mandatory face-to-face education programme the details of which will be provided to the Player by The Football Association. That programme is to be completed within a four month period commencing with the date of the Decision letter dated 1  April 2021. If the Player fails to satisfactorily complete the programme in that period, he will be immediately suspended from all domestic club football until such time as the mandatory programme is so completed. Given the ongoing pandemic if, for any health and safety related reason, the programme cannot be delivered face-to-face within the four months indicated then, with the permission of The Football Association, the programme may be undertaken by means of video-conference and/or there may be a reasonable extension of the time period allowed for completion.

37. He  is ordered to make a contribution towards the costs of the Commission of £450.

Yes. I wondered if it might be something of the sort.

Didn't some of us used to say something similar about Runcorn? I also seem to remember being called an "odd creature", though admittedly I am not a race or nationality (well perhaps a different nationality to most of us, depending on how you define it).

I can also guarantee that many people will react badly to the (potential) loss of grandparents etc. and have myself lost a grandparent in the past year. And perhaps some people will recall a certain Cheshire Senior Cup final between Witton and Woodley Sports at ML.

Well, I can see why they banned him - should that preclude him from coming back to ML? I'll leave that to others. And I repeat, I would welcome footballers from all parts of Asia and any attempts to promote understanding and harmony.

Ah, I forgot. Still, probably still less than the ten to fifteen hundred we might have got at a match, and then there's the secondary spend.

Altrincham FC First Team / Poll - attendances next season.
« on: April 23, 2021, 07:09:18 AM »
With only 300 home supporters watching the clash with table-topping Sutton on Alty TV, it will be important to have fans returning in good numbers next season. But with a lot of water under the bridge since that 4-1 win against Spennymoor Town, and a lot that could happen between now and next season, will we get good crowds - or will there be issues?
