Don't tell me... someone is going to complain about him officiating a Wales game because his mate's dad is Welsh?

Recall Boston being relegated/demoted two divisions from the 4th tier (EFL) to the 6th tier (2nd step of non-lge) in 2007 (maybe 2008) and this ultimately saved Alty from relegation from the Conference (step1 non lge)...

That was a strange period when we finished in relegation zone 3yrs running between 2006-2008 (i think) and we were saved from relegation by financial issues at other clubs like Halifax, Boston, Canvey Island, Scarborough, etc.

During that period we also had the 'James Robinson' issue of fielding an ineligible player (though at time harsh as unaware) that cost us 18pts but again we had a reprieve as one of three seasons listed above...

Agree that demotion two divisions for Grimsby & Southend would be funny but would also send strong message to EFL clubs (who all know rules at start of season) not to try to override/beat an agreed system that rewards via promotion & has relegation for failure...

Bottom line is over whole season Southend & Grimsby were the worst teams in their division & thus deserve (under the rules) to be relegated... they should stop moaning because they were crap and if they continue demote them two divisions as extra punishment! :)

I seem to remember AFC Wimbledon got a three point deduction for the exact same thing. The reason given was laughable at best. And apparently an MP called Tony Blair backed their case. Politicians!

In any case, I'm afraid I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the north and south divisions, were voided again next season, the authorities seem bent on making our lives misery for some time to come. Hope I'm wrong...

"Get you all watching Alty again". I sincerely hope this happens, regardless of people's personal politics, health choices etc.

"Next season when Covid further under control". Or more accurately when restrictions ease. I have a bad feeling about next season though. If they were going to let us go back to "Altrincham v Spennymoor Town" type conditions, I think they would have done so by now, or at least given a definite commitment. It seems clear that at any rate various restrictions will remain in place for some time after fans are officially allowed back, and that the only question is how severely this will impact our crowds. At any rate, it will be a scandal if no Torquay fans are given the chance to see their team get back in the Football League ( if that is indeed the situation on the last day).

"1133 in main stand". I seem to remember counting the main stand seats once and getting 908, including, I think, the press box and directors' box. I'd love to know where the extra seats came from!

I thought so. I assumed that was why if they don't like coming here. An interesting night.

Oh I say, You Tube. I got slated for going on there. Even though it's not where I get my information.

I was going to say Clayton Donaldson has to be in the best eleven I've seen against Alty (apart from Spurs '95)

We might get the live game if they can still win the title, we haven’t had a home game yet

No, BT don't like coming to Alty unless they absolutely have to. Pretty sure we are the only promoted team not to have had a home game shown live this season.
Was that Burton game with John Barnes on BT?

Do I want to attend is the thought meandering through my mind

Guarantee they'll want to attend if they're still going for the title. Could have been the first time they brought a decent crowd here.

Goodness, that's wonderfully obscure. I go to Anglesey most years and I've never heard of any of them.

I seem to remember there was a column in the Non-League Paper about Gwalchmai a few years ago, by the Groundhopper. Apparently there are some rather wonderful views from the ground (rather a good hymn tune named after the place too, Mike Garnett (rip) would've known it.)

Didn't we discover Kevin Ellison at a Welsh club?

My first season ticket at Alty was a junior one costing me 2 guineas (£2.10) for 21 Cheshire league games plus all reserve matches in the Manchester league.
It went up to 4 guineas when I had to pay adult price! 😉
Only brought home £15 a week so it didn't seem so cheap at the time! 😂😂

Did you get to see Jackie Swindells for that?

What was the point of a guinea anyway, surely it was almost the same as a pound (I still prefer it to decimalisation though!)

Now that I have my old git's pass, it's free on the bus, but fares are one of the things that have skyrocketed since I was a kid. When we came to live in Timperley in 1949, the bus fare into Altrincham was tuppence halfpenny for my Mum and three halfpence for me - so four old pence for us both - we could get there and back for the equivalent of less than 4p in today's terms.

When decimalisation happened in 1971 I was exiled in Birmingham. I remember my first pint of Draught Guinness in the new money cost me 13 pence !

Standing on the Holte End at Villa Park was an outrageous 25p ! You could go a mile in a taxi from Altrincham Station for the same amount.

Happy days !

I seem to remember it was 25p for the train in 1990 (admittedly for juniors). You got a heater you could turn on at Navvy Road too AIR.

I remember we were shocked when it was 8 pounds to get in at Halifax. Funny it's one of the best nl grounds now. City's old stand too.

Yep, enjoyed Lancaster last time we played there in April 2018... great away win on way to title a few weeks later... the ground is virtually next door to the railway station, but my mates & i got there early and enjoyed several pints at nearby pubs before the game... great day!

A great city for a boozy day out - one of my favourites.

Near the prison too, I seem to remember someone escaped from it a few years back. And someone boycotted the Giant Axe social club! :) And Gary (God rest him) had business behind that new terrace one time... The best pile on we ever had was after a goal at Lancaster, those were the days!

I fancy an obscure club in Wales - have we ever been to Anglesey?

As per my prediction above Ashton United away PSF added... see below from Alty website...

https://www.altrinchamfc.com/news/the-only-way-is-tameside

Now just need Trafford away adding to see all the usual suspects for PSF... :)

What a classic title for the article  ;D

Oh I'd rather be from Salford...

(now don't ban me, I'm just teasing! :) )

Imagine how many Torquay would come if they could - over twice the (cumulative) total they've previously they've previously brought.

Coming to something if non-league matches are being moved for tv. (Though to be fair we started it back in 1991)
