Altrincham FC First Team / Re: JORDAN HULME
« on: September 30, 2021, 07:58:36 PM »
I've always taken the view that we were lucky to get three good seasons (and some transfer money) out of a quality of player we could never reasonably have expected to  get after relegation to the NPL, so I wish him all the best at Ashton United. (Incidentally, I thought Colclough's goal had a touch of Hulme about it v KL. We seem to have done ok in the long run).

People will always make mistakes. I suppose one could say that Chris senior made a mistake going to Darlington, or Keith Curle going to Chester City. Still, Hulme had his shot at full time football, and that's what he wanted, wasn't it?

And I see Watmore scored a corker the other night. Definitely one that got away from us in terms of sell on fee, the way he had been playing against the likes of Arsenal.

Apparently a couple of people thought the last goal was an own goal. Did anyone else see it as that?

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Re: Vaccine passports for Wales from October!
« on: September 29, 2021, 04:28:37 AM »
The "English" government are now doing a "consultation" on the government's "plan B", including vaxports for sporting events, if the NHS comes under "unsustainable pressure" from Covid. Since the NHS seems to be in crisis every Winter, one might suspect that here is a fair chance of this plan being tried at some point. No details of specifics yet, but we know what they are trying in Wales, which included vaxports for standing events with more than 4,000 people as I recall, which, as I say, might affect our home match with Stockport. There will apparently be no alternative of a negative test result or proving natural immunity, and if current trends continue, that could mean over 10% of the (known) adult population, plus friends and dependents who would not go without them being excluded from ML. Of course, the number will not be evenly spread, and may affect a disproportionately small number of people who watch Alty - but, by the same token, it is likely to exclude a disproportionately large number of poor people and ethnic minorities, leading some people to brand the proposals as a form of apartheid.

The best one was Workington away on a Tuesday night on a cramped minibus  for a dogwalker's cup match that went to penalties (did we lose?). Their keeper said he had his milkround at 4am as I recall...

Can we have a separate panic buying page along with the covid one please ?? 😂😂

Good old politics - it always finds its way back onto here sooner or later doesn't it, despite my best efforts! Chester "City" seem to have a properly functioning OT section on their forum, but nobody bothers here, at least not since June.

Now then,  tell me the story about Jim and Don watching on a roof at the Drill Field. I'll be impressed if you can tell me the score that day...

Did the 842 Notts Co. figure include the significant number in the family stand (and possibly the main stand) ?Do seated away fans still come in at the Chequers End and then move round, or do they have to come in at the turnstiles for the seats?

I think I know which word he means... and it's not Belarus!

We haven't had the best of luck with KL have we? Even if it goes ahead,  this,  or the weather, could hit the crowd - and we're up against the CL again. I'll be very surprised if we get over 1,000 - I'll be happy with 800, to be honest.

As for houses - I remember once at a pub in Nailsworth (we were refusing to use Green Grass's social at the time), a local yokel was "playing" on the fruit machine, just tapping the buttons without putting any money in. Ecky (God  rest him) joked that if he played the fruit machine like that, he could afford a house in Hale!

Time for Parky to make a statement here.

Win Tuesday and we're into the POs with 2 games in hand around us ahead of a clash Dangeham.

A poor result puts pressure to go to a strong Dagenham and  and get something.

Unless Bromley beat Grimsby. Unlikely but possible.

See Alistair Smith scored twice for Sutton today too.

He got us a mention on the Football League show too! Hopefully we'll be on it regularly before too long.

Those were the days!

Ridiculous that nothing's been built at the Bridge after all these years.

I have a dvd of Vics v Alty one boxing day in the Conference, and as I remember, neither side seemed to put together more than three passes for the entire match! Even for a local derby, that's poor. I suppose that's one thing that has improved these days.

Don't forget we also missed a match because of Macc Town going bust, as well as the matches against Yeovil and King's Lynn. The only good thing about it is we will have had time to work on making some sort of a defence with all the players out (though how much normal training will have been done in the circumstances I don't know), but to be honest, I think we will be up against it tomorrow.

I assume they would have to get to the first round for that to happen, which is pretty rare for a club at that level these days with so many extra clubs in the trident leagues and National League. It may prove difficult for the teams from the Crown Dependencies to get very far up the pyramid with the formidable logistical difficulties. Although Guernsey were getting good crowds for the level (and there have been several thousand for the Channel Islands cup final in the past), a lot of that must go on the extra costs they have to pay.

And Alty would be in the football league if this had happened in March 1991! Such is life...
