I wonder now, did the section we were in actually have as many seats as there were spectators in this section? There were quite a number of people stood in the aisle, and I couldn't see too many empty seats in our section. To my mind questions need to be asked. I remain convinced that it would have been much better to open the whole stand, and to have a (safe) standing section. I understand the sensitivities after Hillsborough, but in a situation like yesterday, I feel that all-seater causes more problems than it solves. It is all too easy to imagine such chaotic organisation causing a serious problem on another day.

The selection criteria do seem to vary from country to country. Didn't Gibraltar used to play pretty much a full "national" team?

What is the kick off time today as on JL.s site it says 1400 but on the main Alty site it says 1500?

It’s is 3pm… has always been 3pm and will always be 3pm 😊

Or 3.15pm...  ;D

Pie, peas and gravy at Gainsborough! Or the twenty different sections at the Ruislip home of Wealdstone.

And here's our last Trophy semi-final, a 3,500 sell-out. Let's hope it goes better this time!

Looking back at that season, perhaps it's not a bad thing that it's one leg now.

Fantastic result that. I couldn’t make it because of family commitments unfortunately but if you’d told me at 10pm on Tuesday night we’d beat Woking 3-1 today I’d have been amazed, some turnaround. Linney already looks the real deal.

On a separate note, having seen some good historical research on Twitter, the average points tally to stay up since the league went to four down has been 46, although closer to 50 is not uncommon. Suspect we therefore might still need another 2-3 wins alongside a handful of draws.

Rochdale having collected 1/12 in the four games since Toby joined them & now 6 points adrift of safety is very amusing too.
,
So far as I'm concerned, if we're good enough to beat Woking 3-1, we're not going down, especially with Bennett returning who, as I posted previously, is at the top end this season for goals per minutes played of Altrincham players.

I also did a bit of research on the Rochdale situation ("Rothman's" year books, not Twitter!), and the least points in recent years that a team finishing third from bottom of the FL has had after 29 games is 21 for Hartlepool in 2014-15, eventually ending up with 45 points. (1.4 points per game). Rochdale were on 20 points from 29 games, and currently on 21 points from 32 games. I reckon they will need at least 21 points from 14 games to stay up (1.5 points per game). After a damaging home defeat to Gillingham in a relegation six pointer, the writing does appear to be on the wall for them.

(P.S. Twitter? I didn't realise they did footy stats!)

We will win 4-1

Again, close but no cigar! I'm now dreading you saying we'll beat York 2-1 in the Trophy...

Was the awarding of that free-kick to Woking in the first half as bad as it looked to us, then?

For comparison, Bromley v York drew a semi-final crowd of 4,423 last season. At a guess, I would say we'd sell out against York in the semis with our current capacity.

And not wanting to put a jinx on it, but would the semi-final be likely to be all-ticket? And what would the arrangements be? I was just thinking it would be a pity if any season ticket holders or regular supporters missed out.

And that's exactly the sort of reason why we shouldn't have goal line technology.

Seriously though, they were discussing on MOTD tonight how video game referees who don't understand football are making wrong decisions. And of course sometimes the technology knackers up, as with the sub at Stevenage a few years back. Mistakes are a part of football, why not just have the referee making them?

Just got back. Difficult bobbly pitch, spongy as hell so not really suiting our football style. Thought we started well and good goal by Sinclair. They responded, good strike of the bar, I was stood at that end and couldn't tell it crossed the line. The referee was 40 yards away and liner was midway down the line, so would never be given if did go in. Luckily Ollie picked lose ball up as there striker was going to pounce, we then go down other end and score. Good stuff.

Second half thought we were poor, they got a lucky deflection for a goal. We then had a couple of attacks and got it too 3-1 with Quintara scoring.

Pleased were in the last 8

Armando Quitima Junior, according to the team sheet, though the website has it as Quitirna, so presumably the person who did the team sheet misread the name.

Close but no cigar. I'll take it though!

Genuinely perplexed about that Bracknell "goal" in the first half. I saw the net ripple and everything!

The Wigan Athletic perspective, including some reminiscences from Graham Barrow:

Altrincham's tribute:

https://altrinchamfc.com/blogs/news/tributes-pour-in-for-the-one-and-only-john-king-heres-ours

' "He was an honest and forthright person who wore his heart on his sleeve – always giving 100% himself and motivating others to exceed their expectations on numerous occasions. What some people won’t know is that he was also the changing room joker, using humour as a motivational tool and dressing up in women’s clothes or as a pantomime horse to calm the nerves before big games. He always had time for the younger element of our crowd, being seen as a “gentle giant” after his colossus displays on the pitch.'

Never mind someone you'd want in the trenches with you, you'd positively look forward to the trenches if Kingy was there!

We will win 4-1

Didn't someone on here, many moons ago, always predict that we'd win by that score and never got it right?

Let's hope you do! 👍🎯

I seem to remmember a certain prediction about winning 3-0 at Alfreton...
