We saw it yet again last night, after a sustained spell of ALty pressure, a Maidenhead player went down "requiring" treatment for some time. After which he was able to continue. Of course he could have really taken a knock, but the same routine has happened in other games, and we know that teams do use it as a tactic to relieve a spell of pressure. This means we get home later (from places like Maidenhead) and see a less entertaining game. Too many time wasting tactics go unpunished whilst at the same time the football authorities see fit to obsess about marginal offsides. A few years back (well maybe a bit more than a few now...), at one world cup they insisted that players who got injured were taken off on an electric cart promptly for treatment. If not the same, we should certainly think along similar radical lines or such nonsense will just continue.

And another example of a keeper taking the p... again last night when the ball was given back to him for a goal kick, he kicked the ball "accidentally" into the stands (like Peter Jamieson, who, as mentioned previously, didn't catch the ball when it was thrown very near him for a goal kick). No ifs, no buts, such behaviour should always result in a booking, and referees should be alert to it

The back pass rule shows that radical changes can be made when they want to, and it is high  time to get tough on such spoiling  tactics, especially with the large amount of stoppage time that is common place these days (and I remember when Manchester United scoring a goal as much as 4 minutes into stoppage time was considered noteworthy) .

Altrincham FC First Team / Good old Ryan Colclough!

(See interview).

Let's hope things are back to normal next season. "Oh Ryan Colclough I think we should pay you some more".

BBC are reporting that Liverpool supporters have had problems getting into the stadium, that not enough gates were opened, that there has been indiscriminate use of pepper spray on supporters, and possible crushing outside the stadium.

Firstly, I hope that everyone is ok.

Secondly, why have scenes like this been allowed to happen again, and at a match involving Liverpool of all teams?

Thirdly, not the first time that English supporters have had problems at a French stadium England supporters were left at the mercy of hooligans in 2016.

Fourthly, is enough being done to make sure that, even if everything goes wrong, people will still be safe?

Fifthly, there was a stadium announcement blaming the delay on Liverpool supporters arriving late. For me this doesn't wash and is unacceptable.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Some people apparently really believe this.
« on: February 05, 2022, 01:47:14 AM »
https://www.hartgroup.org/sacrificial-lambs/

I on the other hand don't believe this and am concerned about teenagers being banned from some matches based on their medical choices. If they've looked at the evidence and want to take a medication, fine. But if they are doing it so they can go to a match, that is a concern to me. This relates to football, and indeed apparently to certain matches Altrincham have played (Notts County?) - though thankfully apparently no longer. That's why I have raised this point in this non-Altrincham f.c. talk section. Now maybe I have no need to be concerned. But without knowing what is actual evidence, and with the things I have seen giving cause for concern, I feel it is right to raise this point. The welfare of the young is for me of the utmost importance, and as some of them may have been making medical decisions based on access to football matches, I feel it is reasonable to raise this here. If there is evidence, actual evidence  that there is no cause for concern based on actual statistics relating to medical events that have been occurring over the past few years, with information about gender, medical status, age and so on, and if someone can give me a source providing all this information and more, I will go and research it and if it answers my concerns satisfactorily, maybe I can leave it at that. But unitl then, I will continue to be concerned.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Please explain this...

Or dismiss it out of hand as not actual evidence if that's your thing.

I genuinely want to get to the bottom of this, but I've heard a lot of different explanations for what is going on, lost trust in the government and some of the media after some of the things we've been told (and not least up to August 2020). And I don't believe for a moment that healthy teenagers are at serious risk from a virus.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / A medical emergency at Oldham v Rochdale too.
« on: January 30, 2022, 12:02:46 AM »
He was treated in the stands and admitted to hospital in a stabilised condition. i wish him well and hope he recovers soon.

So that's three incidents now involving local football league clubs in a week. No trend? Really? I remain hugely concerned.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Heart attack at Fulham v Blackpool now!
« on: January 29, 2022, 10:09:05 PM »
Just a few days after the Blackburn match. Fortunately he seems to have been ok.

Obviously these things happened in the past, but it seems to be almost every week at the moment, and indeed sometimes more than once in a week. I haven't seen figures, but I'm sure there's more of these incidents among fans than in previous years - and of course there was an incident at the Alty match v Stockport. I remain concerned about this non-trend.

Edit: it has just been announced on the Football League Show that he has sadly passed away. Condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in peace.

For me, there have been far too many of these incidents at matches lately and it is a huge concern, and certainly should not be brushed under the carpet, trend or no.

Altrincham FC First Team / Hereford players
« on: January 25, 2022, 10:02:33 PM »
I see there was something in this week's NLP about a couple of Hereford players, Afghanistan international (although UK based since age one) Maziar Kouhyar, who played in the Trophy final for them, and British Indian Dinesh Gillela, signed recently from Hayes. And Yeading. United. Absurdly, they represent 20% of British South Asians that are professional footballers. Just 10 out of 4,000 pro footballers in the UK - representing  o.25% of footballers, compared to 7% of the total population . I remember a tv news item some years ago about the issues, how there was a perception among some club owners that "Asians" didn't make good footballers, and they interviewed one young lad who had broken all sorts of records in an amateur league, and yet had failed to get a trial at any professional club.

I assumed things would have changed by now, but apparently not. Hereford manager Josh Gowling, who wrote the article talked of unconscious biases, and one wonders if there is still a problem. There may be genuine reasons of course why South Asians are less likely to make it in the professional game, but at the same time, one might reasonably ask if enough is being done to make a path for them into the game. A couple of British Pakistani lads where I used to work - one was quite a decent football player, the other a cricketer and a real athlete (they were from Ashton). meanwhile, a boy from Altrincham's Kerala Catholic community (i.e. Indian) said he wanted to be a formula one driver.

There must be plenty of South Asians who would make good footballers, including many locally. The club have been talking about improving scouting for players - is it an issue they have considered, going out looking for players from this untapped community, scanning amateur leagues or even 5-aside leagues, trying to create an environment that would attract them? Surely it is a matter worth considering, besides which if there are really "unconscious biases", it would be the right thing to do. Wolves have quite a big group of "Asian" supporters, and Hereford are clearly benefitting from their South Asian players - are there things for us to learn?

In other Hereford related news, the FACupFactFile Team Award special 150th anniversary award for the non-league club that have had the biggest impact on the competition went to Hereford United, pipping Altrincham and Yeovil Town. Apparently 17 consecutive 1st round appearances is rated more highly than four consecutive third round appearances. I still say Alty had the best ever result though, the only team ever to win away at a first division club (since the third division started) coming from behind, even if Hopkins did help a bit!

And former Hereford player Mustapha Bundu recently starred at the Africa Cup of Nations for Sierra Leone in their 0-0 draw with champions Algeria. Who says Hereford players can't come good!

As for that other former Hereford player Kennedy Digie, I have reviewed some previous match highlights, and clearly there are a lot of  bad mistakes that need to be cut out (although I stand by my comment thatafter the second Torquay goal he did ok - prove me wrong!). I wonder now if the fact of not having a settled team in recent times has been a contributory factor to mistakes from him and other players as well. If you have a settled team who all know each other's games, it must make it much easier to know where to pass, and what to do in given situations. I assume that Parky just sees the big strong lad and assumes that with time and coaching he can learn to cut out the worst of the mistakes. We will see. Maybe...

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Blackburn match delayed by fan collapse now.
« on: January 25, 2022, 09:08:18 PM »
But only for 9 minutes last night. See here.

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/19871853.blackburn-fan-taken-ill-game-stable-condition/

So among others that is Blackburn, Sheffield, and Wigan just fairly locally affected by these sudden collapses recently, plus relating to this club the heart attack at the County game, and a match officiated by Altrincham referee Anthony Taylor last year.

We know now that collapses and deaths among players worldwide increased in 2021, and are starting to get an idea of why this might have happened, but I have still not heard figures for games affected by fan collapses. My general impression is that there have been more of these incidents than in previous years, including of course two Premier League games in one day last year, and certainly, I don't remember there being so many of these cases in the past, and as I say, I don't remember there being any previous heart attacks when I have been watching Alty. However, I could be wrong, and it would be interesting to get confirmation of the actual numbers and whether  there is a significant increase.

Altrincham FC First Team / Kennedy Digie
« on: January 22, 2022, 06:18:17 PM »
I was keeping a bit of an eye on him today. I was going to say he played well. And sure enough, he ended up getting man of the match, and was well worthy of it. He didn't put a foot wrong (at least when I was watching), he was assured, solid in the tackle, and his distribution seemed fine today. My only quibble is I'm still not quite sure how to pronounce Digie or what would be a good song for him (one Kenny Digie maybe?!). He may not be Hannigan, but he's jolly good, and it'd be a pity if he ended up like Tom Peers, not getting the credit he deserves.

As for the match itself, I thought we were genuinely unlucky today, and just didn't get the rub of the green. There was plenty of attacking play pushing for an equaliser, we hit the bar, and I still don't know how we didn't score that late chance (though admittedly Torquay probably should have scored from close range too). We conceded a couple of sloppy goals, perhaps understandably with an experimental back line, but that will sort itself out in time, and I still think we have enough to stay up barring disaster, and maybe even improve on last season (which, by the way, must never be repeated).

Non Altrincham FC Talk / More on teenage mortality.
« on: January 20, 2022, 09:02:03 PM »
In an open letter from the Health Advisory and Recovery Team (some may say not actual evidence - I think they are reasonable evidence) that gives a good summary of the issues.

https://www.hartgroup.org/open-letter-to-the-mhra-regarding-child-death-data/

Unfortunately, all we know is that there has been a significant increase in mortality in young males (aged 15-19). The letter goes through some of the points that need answering and that must be answered to allay concerns about current government health measures. One day, we will have this information and be able to decide if lives have been lost unnecessarily, although of course there are some things that are already fairly well established with regards to younger males. Without the information requested in the letter, it is questionable whether younger males can give properly informed consent.

This page summarises who HART are for those interested:

https://www.hartgroup.org/bios/

I should also say that while some things remain unknow about this worrying rise in mortality among this demographic, it seems all too certain that if current plans to force tens of thousands of "unvaccinated" health workers out of their jobs are followed through, people will die as a result. People who will mostly have natural immunity by now anyway, and are apparently no more likely to test positive for "covid". For me, this is a huge concern in an already short staffed health service.

I emphasise that the calculations will be different for high risk groups (including younger people in at risk groups) and that these emergency use "vaccines" may offer some benefit to them, though it is still worth researching the issue, talking to medical professionals etc. as medication is rarely risk free.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Final figures for 2021 footballer deaths.
« on: January 18, 2022, 08:16:01 PM »
See here.

https://dailyexpose.uk/2022/01/15/2021-footballer-deaths-increased-by-300-percent/

Not actual evidence of course. Still, a worrying non-trend if the figures are correct - they represent a total for 2021 over two and a half times higher than the next highest figure in the previous 12  years and nearly four times the average figure of the previous 12 years. Note the figures include professional (or semi-professional!) footballers over 16.

Obviously calculations will be very different for high risk groups, but I repeat that young healthy males would be well advised to research possible risks.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Ballgirl collapses at Australian open!
« on: January 18, 2022, 04:02:22 AM »
https://xyz.net.au/2022/01/ball-girl-collapses-at-australian-open/
Also the Mail, Yahoo etc. if that's more your thing.

(Apparently she was "fully vaccinated" - as we've seen, it's quite hard to be at the event otherwise).

Not actual evidence of course. Still, I've watched a fair few matches at Wimbledon over the years, and don't ever remember a ballgirl collapsing. Those who would talk about killing might like to consider the harm that has been inflicted upon healthy children at virtually no risk of death from "covid" throughout this nonsense. And I dare say the ONS will one day get round to releasing the number of 12-17 year olds who have died within 28 days of a "vaccination" (if any).

Altrincham FC First Team / Heart attack at the match tonight!
« on: January 11, 2022, 10:36:23 PM »
According to Bill. I suppose it's just a fact of life these days though. I was worried something like this would happen sooner or later. I don't remember something like this happening since I started watching at the Bangor game in 1990, but I dare say someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I assume it was the old gentleman in the wheelchair I saw being wheeled round from the Chequers End in the first half. So far as I know, he has pulled through, and I wish him all the best for his recovery.

In a completely unrelated matter, Bill also related how he didn't want to make our loyal supporters have to jump through more hoops after what we've been through in the last few seasons, hence him reluctantly putting the reduced capacity on tonight's crowd, and I would like to commend him for his actions and express my lasting gratitude to him for this and for standing up for equality. I will not forget this.

And for the people who think that all this doesn't matter compared to the "scandal" of Jordan Hulme not playing, Bill also said he didn't know why he wasn't playing but that that doesn't mean that there wasn't a reason. In fact I could pretty much guarantee there was a reason, and he also said that Hulme was knackered in the later stages of the Barnet game. I would also say that I never expected us to win tonight against a strong County side (Sarcevich - I ask you!), and especially after the long trip to Barnet while County had a rest. It is in the games where we genuinely have a chance to win that I will judge us. And I would reiterate that we have not had a good second season at this level since 1981. If we stay up -  which we almost certainly will now -  so far as I am concerned, we have done alright. The moaners need to get real.
