I had no end of mither with him. I wasn't going to say anything, but then he came and  accosted me in the ground and asked to see my "ticket". I understand you need to have new starters sometimes, but I suggest not on reception on a busy night.

And never mind "f". I'm arsed, and I paid a lot of money for a season ticket, in hard times. And by the way, if the company responsible can't guarantee an improvement for next season, I would tentatively suggest making alternative arrangements, my season ticket has still not arrived. Though to be fair I have always managed to get in. Eventually (tonight was the first time I had any sort of issue, when I went to ask if my season ticket had arrived and was faced with this jobsworth new starter (who to be fair had been enjoined by another steward to check everything carefully)).

(And yes, brackets)))))))))))))) :)

Altrincham FC First Team / Can we pay on the Gate(shead)?
« on: October 15, 2022, 05:29:07 PM »
I for one am not paying in advance only to find the traffic's bad and I won't make it, and I'd guess I'm not the only one. Not all of us have a magic Allegro. :)

N.B. I said before the draw that we'd definitely lose if it was South Shelds away. Well we've got the next best thing now. Happy days...

P.S. In the queue today, someone asked me if this was the queue for paying by cash. Then someone else asked me if it was the usual prices. Just saying.

Altrincham FC First Team / Scottish Challenge Cup

Rumour has it that NL teams will once again be participating from next season onwards. Now if we can only finish second - and lose in the play-offs!

Altrincham FC First Team / Ellison scores for Liverpool!

At Trafford too! Makes me feel young.

In other ex-Alty news, Owen Dale came close for Pompey.  So they did get one of our players!

Altrincham FC First Team / Dinanga!
« on: October 07, 2022, 09:49:21 PM »
Looking at the control and pass for the first goal against Gateshead, and the run and finish for the second, it occurred to me that if one considered these moments in isolation without considering what else has happened this season, one would have to conclude that Dinanga was a class act. And I must say I felt that his goals had been coming, he has come close a number of times (including, I think, a disallowed goal pre-season), not least with the shot off the underside of the bar which would have been a tremendous strike. Now of course people have grown impatient with some of the things he has done this season, and with good reason. But he scored quite a few at Websfleet (or wherever it was) didn't he? Is it just possible that, having scored, and having become more accustomed to this level and playing competitive matches with these players, he could go on a scoring run, or am I getting carried away by a couple of goals? Certainly it would be a tremendous boost for the team if he did. And whilst there would still be a big role for Jordan Hulme (whose ball control in a tight spot is reminiscent of Gary Anderson at his best), just maybe Marcus can play an important part in this season.

(Now this is the sort of thing I really want to talk about  ;) )

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Budenberg Gauge on tv tonight!
« on: October 07, 2022, 07:29:15 PM »
They featured on Fred Dibnah's Made In Britain. Apparently they made a pressure gauge for his traction engine. I hadn't realised Budenberg were a part of such an iconic part of North-West tv history! I'm glad the building has survived at least as flats. I understand Budenberg had quite a historic bowls club as well.

Believe it or not, there is a minority group here in England, inevitably including football followers, who endeavour to pay by cash only as far as possible as a point of principle, and in fact possible reasons for this are not hard to find. Whilst there may be people who consider it acceptable to be prejudiced against this particular minority group (though I would hope and expect that such bigotry would not be aired on here), the point is that the decision for whatever reasons not to accept cash payments from some or all spectators by certain football clubs (and notably, of course, Wrexham) tends towards the exclusion of such football supporters, and I would tentatively suggest that reasonable efforts should be made by clubs (as has happened at Alty) to accommodate people from this group, the same as with other minority groups. I repeat, Alty for all. Alienate groups of people and they (and for that matter other people who care about the treatment of minorities) may leave for good.

Maybe judge Parky after twelve games this season instead of ten?

Seriously, if they finished the season now, I'd settle for it!

Altrincham FC First Team / Wrexham tickets
« on: October 04, 2022, 08:51:29 PM »
Nice to see that only people who have a printer or smart phone can attend Wrexham (or find someone with one to purchase on their behalf). Then again, I suppose Wrexham can afford to as they will still sell out. As for me, I'd rather go to Maidenhead any day. And no sniping comments, please. Alty for all!

Altrincham FC First Team / "The fans won the match today" - Phil Parkinson
« on: September 25, 2022, 11:34:22 PM »
I felt that too. Maybe I was imagining it (though I think not) but I really felt I could sense the players responding to the crowd. I felt emotional and emotionally drained at the end of that. And I was so pleased to get the clean sheet and a sustained spell of attacking pressure like in previous seasons. What I want to say is a big thankyou to everyone whose magnificent support helped us over the line today, and let's try and keep this going into the coming games. If we do, I no longer doubt that we will stay up. Onwards and upwards. Come on Alty!

Altrincham FC First Team / Scottish Challenge Cup
« on: September 25, 2022, 07:01:38 PM »
I see that Caernarfon and Cliftonville have been playing in the Totally Nutty Scottish competition (they lost to Buckie and Queen's Park). Is there any news on whether NL clubs are back in or likely to be back in in the future? If so, one has to assume that participation in this competition is a realistic possibility in the future if our five-year plan progresses well (and one I would obviously relish. I've always wanted to go to Northern Ireland).

Altrincham FC First Team / Poll on Alty's final position 22/23
« on: September 23, 2022, 07:32:46 PM »
I don't think we've had a poll on the final table this season so it would be interesting to see what people think of our chances in this vital season of transition. And maybe revisit the subject later in the season if our fortunes change...

It appears that at long last (unless this is just another glitch!)  the football results section is covering FA Cup qualifying round matches (Congleton beat Bootle 1-4 (home team first!)) rather than ignoring it until the first round proper, despite televising some qualifying round matches, and despite giving results and scorers from the non-league only Scottish cup first round (I always look out for my former local team and historic Highland League new boys (who apparently had a ball returned to them once that had floated across to Scandinavia) Banks O' Dee).

I wonder, does anyone still watch "Ceefax" now apart from me? (I suppose at least we don't have to wait through 48 pages on Teletext to see the Mid-Cheshire League scores now (who would've thought that Westmorland has a league!) - even I will admit that some change is good, AA :) )
