Non Altrincham FC Talk / Two football league players collapse this week!
« on: November 26, 2021, 11:34:02 PM »
Hot on the heels of John Fleck collapsing on Tuesday playing for Sheffield United, Wigan Athletic player Charlie Wyke collapsed in training on Thursday. Is this the new normal? Those coincidences are mounting up, and some of us are drawing our own conclusions (including that nice Trevor Sinclair).

Altrincham FC First Team / Tommy Tommy Peers
« on: October 10, 2021, 12:41:27 AM »
I wonder if he will still get slated as he only scored one and fell over!

He's gonna be here for years! I shan't complain if he stays for some time anyway, as things stand. For me, he remains a useful squad player. Yes, only his first goal of the season, but according to the Alty Files (which I suspect doesn't allow for stoppage time in its calculations) he has played less than 90 minutes in total - so one goal in 84 minutes playing time. Yes there were one or two mistakes, but there were good touches too, and of course a goal - he seems to have a knack of finding good goal-scoring positions, and I have yet to be convinced that he is the liability that seems to be suggested sometimes.

Altrincham FC First Team / 130 years!
« on: September 20, 2021, 09:23:59 PM »
It has occurred to me that this year marks the 130th anniversary of the founding of our predecessors Rigby Memorial (with never a season missed, I believe). Not as old as our venerable opponents on Saturday, but nonetheless a grand old age. With everything else that's been going on, it seems to have been somewhat overlooked. Would it be worth doing something in the programme at some point? And how much is known about these early days? Do we know where they played, or the date they were founded, or any of the players? And what sort of teams would they have played? And was there any other team in the area before 1891?

I think the hundredth anniversary of Altrincham's first win over a football league is also coming up soon (against Tranmere Rovers in the 4th or 5th qualifying round?).

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Vaccine passports for Wales from October!
« on: September 18, 2021, 08:26:44 PM »
So far as I can tell, it won't affect us for now unless we draw a Welsh team away in the third round of the FA Cup.

Still, it seems likely that the "English" Government's plan B will be used at some point, with "Vaxports" an option which may then be used. If the same criteria were used as in Wales, the Stockport match at home, and certain away matches could potentially be affected.

Altrincham FC First Team / I'm not going the Shay again.

That was absolutely ridiculous. It made Rushden and Diamonds fc look good. Enough said.

Altrincham FC First Team / FC Halifax Town match
« on: August 24, 2021, 02:58:12 AM »
Will we be able to pay on the day? And will we be put in the usual place?

Also, are they as bad as their opening result suggests? And is my friend (and formerly on Alty's staff as I remember) Chris Millington still the assistant manager?

It's a funny thing, I remember the first time I went there shortly after their first relegation from the Football League and we were furious it cost eight pounds to get in, and their ground was considered one of the worst. Now I'll be grateful just to get in at all, and their ground is one of the best (even if it did bankrupt the old club)!

Altrincham FC First Team / Poll: where will Altrincham finish?
« on: August 16, 2021, 05:32:39 AM »
With the fixtures up on "teletext" and things hopefully back to normal for fans, I am looking forward to the new season. I had been a bit worried and tending towards 18th to 20th at best, but I am starting to feel more optimistic. But how do others feel? Can we improve on last season, or will we struggle in a strong league?

Altrincham FC First Team / Poll - attendances next season.
« on: April 23, 2021, 07:09:18 AM »
With only 300 home supporters watching the clash with table-topping Sutton on Alty TV, it will be important to have fans returning in good numbers next season. But with a lot of water under the bridge since that 4-1 win against Spennymoor Town, and a lot that could happen between now and next season, will we get good crowds - or will there be issues?

Altrincham FC First Team / Happy Easter - I wish! (o/t - ish)

And not only that - if your "vaccine passports" go ahead, millions could be denied basic services etc. including watching sporting events and access to jobs.

"Those attending... major sports events... will be required to provide proof of a jab, test or natural immunity".  One wonders if non-league football will be considered a "major sports event" - lad/s.

Oh, and the Kenyan government has warned of vaccine apartheid after that country (of which I have written previously) was added to a government "red list". Whatever else this nonsense is, it is certainly discriminatory.

"Over 50% of managers favour refusing work for those who have not been vaccinated".

Is this really what "London" Alty support? Seriously lad(s), you want to look at yourselves. And if you want to try snitching on me again and get me banned, quite frankly I am well rid of you if I get banned for doing things that are pretty much the same as what other people are doing (and still no one using the other forums!).

This is the gist of what the authorities have to say on the matter. (from last week).

" 'Covid status certification' to show if people have lower risk of passing on 'the virus' 'could be used to help open up society... subject to a review'. Not all will have the vaccine, so they will look at testing as a way to allow people to attend an event. "

It rather begs the question, will a disproportionately large number of people who refuse a vaccine also refuse a test(making the effect somewhat similar to vaccine passports)? Will a disproportionately large number of these be poor? or from the "BAME" community? Will full vaccine passports also be considered, as has already happened elsewhere?

"POLLUTER!" "CONSPIRACY THEORIST!" Give it a rest, "London". This is an issue that could affect nl football and Altrincham fc first team going forward, and I suggest it warrants serious discussion. This forum, as I understand it, is for all matters relating to Altrincham fc first team, not just match analysis etc. If you don't think these things should be discussed here, you can always ignore this post. Or maybe try using some of the other sections of the forum (the last post on the other forums was on January 3rd by me, last I checked - anyone else want to have a try?) rather than just moaning. Hardly my fault that all the other forums on this platform are ignored.

Altrincham FC First Team / digital programme
« on: February 09, 2021, 07:40:27 PM »
I haven't purchased a digital programme from ticketco before, and I don't know how to open the programme or apply the code, and am not familiar with apps for downloading it..  Is there any simple way of opening the programme from the e-mail bthey send you please?

I ask because, as I understand, the WHO has updated its PCR guidance, and now recommends a second test to confirm a PCR positive test result. I trust that the authorities and the National League will make any necessary changes to their protocols and practices to reflect this guidance.

(And yes, "London" Alty, this is relevant to Altrincham fc first team. Isn't it. I'll leave any side tracking to others - for now..)

PS Best wishes to the player concerned, I hope he is "recovering" well.

Altrincham FC First Team / Amazing what Parky's done
« on: December 14, 2020, 04:39:01 AM »
Especially given the stream of injuries. We actually have more points than at this stage last season, and the same as the season before.

And I still say that Peers can make an impact. $ goals already isn't it? And from limited game time. I seem to remember a darting run into the box against Dagenham and Redbridge and Leytonstone and...   He seems to make things happen, and find the space to get a shot away. That depressing home defeat to Bromley (or whoever it was) where we hardly had a shot - I reckon if he'd been playing, he might just have been the man to make something happen against a tightly packed defense. Yes, we'd love to still have Jordan Hulme (and let's be honest, John Johnston) but I think Peers is better than some make out - and part of a squad that has had a decent start at GMVC level.

Altrincham FC First Team / poll: watching Altrincham fc first team again
« on: November 03, 2020, 11:40:38 PM »
Not counting Barnton or Radio Robins  :)

I was going to include an option for after next season, but if that is the case, we're pretty much screwed I reckon!
