Such devastating news and such a fantastic lad.  He didn't need any reason to be friendly to you other than that you were a fellow Alty fan, and his devotion to the club was incredible.

To me Mark was as much a leader as Kingy, Carmody or Parkinson. If it wasn't for Mark and one or two others the club would have died in the 90s and several times since, but it was his passion and his determination to represent the club home and away on the terraces, behind the scenes and to the board that helped to keep the fires burning through some very dark days.

This is the saddest news I have heard in a long time - I will miss him as will everyone - and my heart and condolences go out to all of his family.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: A Fond Farewell to an Alty Legend
« on: August 04, 2020, 12:49:05 PM »
I wish I could have been there myself to show my respects to the greatest clubman we have had, and will ever have.  Missing him like mad already and I just wish he could have hung in there long enough to see us win the playoffs last weekend.-

He will have be smiling the broadest of smiles on his beloved Moss Lane from up in heaven though, that's for sure.

I do hope that there was a respectable turnout yesterday.

Altrincham FC First Team / Naming the Popular Side
« on: August 04, 2020, 12:46:05 PM »
The Popular side is the largest end of terracing in the ground and I believe much of the extra capacity that has been signed off in the ground can be attributed to the Pop side, which up to now has had the same capacity as the Golf Road officially, I understand.

I think the name is far too generic and I think we have an opportunity to name it officially - perhaps running a competition.

I favour the following -

THE GEORGE HESLOP TERRACE

George (RIP) did more for the club over a longer period of time than anyone alive or dead, and is more than a legend - in my book he was the Father of the club.  We will never see his like again and I think marking his passing with a permanent tribute like this is absolutely fitting for the great man.

Any thoughts peeps?

We need to spend money in the close season to update the turnstiles and adapt them to take card payments - contactless - and e tickets.  We also need to have enough volunteers next season to run the turnstiles and open them all where possible.  Opening the popular side turnstiles more regularly would also help - but the key is getting enough volunteers to ensure we can cope, and using modern technology to enable us to be as cashless as possible on the day.

I have a strong feeling that home support is going to really take off next season and to retain the extra support we need to make sure we are fit for purpose and professional on match days.

We also need more stewards next season.

31.  Dramatic revival of Alty Fans site with new posters and posters missing in action - including me to an extent - suddenly lively and active again!!

I think this capacity is pretty realistic - I was there against Sheffield United where there were officially 5100 or so but it was initially reported as 8000 - and there was room for more.

perhaps more to the point - when we played Orient there were 7800 plus there and the ground was pretty much the same as it is now - it was packed in places but wasn't bursting at the seams everywhere.

This is great news, especially if we get a big FA Cup tie at home or we end up in the league - hope the 10 year plan for the ground keeps the capacity around the 8000 mark.

Lets hope attendance restrictions end by the time we play Stockport at home - I reckon we could get 4000 plus if we are both doing well.

More revenue on all fronts and more media exposure locally and nationally means that we are in a great position to kick on from this season's success and establish ourselves next season then start looking at pushing for play offs the following season.

24. Ghosts of 15/16 and 16/17 debacles put to rest and we can move forward together united and stronger.

25. Gives our fantastic squad the chance to shine at a higher level and show everyone their class.

26. If we have to sell players, will attract bigger transfer fees - connected to 25.

COME ON ALTY - WE KNOW YOU'VE GOT THE CLASS AND THE DETERMINATION TO DO THIS. FIGHT FOR EACH OTHER FOR THE FULL 90 MINUTES PLUS - KEEP YOUR DISCIPLINE AND PROFESSIONALISM AND PLAY YOUR GAME AGAINST THEM AND YOU WILL DO IT.

PROUD OF THIS TEAM  - SHOWS MORE CHARACTER THAN ANY SINCE THE 2005 VINTAGE AND HAS MORE TALENT AND SKILL THAN ANY SINCE THE 91 NEARLY MEN - FAR BETTER THAN 95, 99, 2005 AND 2014 TEAMS - ALL OF WHICH WERE SUCCESSFUL

I don't want to build my hopes up too much but I have a sneaking feeling we might edge this.  Boston United in a big game at York Street usually have a man advantage in the form of an incredibly hostile home crowd-  not to say an incredibly forgiving local police force - but playing to silence will be surreal for them.  Whereas our professionalism and focus, combined with amazing team spirit, will be our 12th man.

Crying shame it is behind closed doors though - I can see it having been at full house - given it is their last game there-  and I reckon we would have taken as many as we took to Portsmouth - but we will never know.

I fancy us to win by the odd goal - 2 1 maybe - and I think Hulme will be working his butt off to get on the score sheet, and will score both if he gets one.

COME ON ALTY THIS IS THE BIG ONE - PROUD OF THE LADS WHATEVER THE OUTCOME

What a result and what a performance-  we pretty much bossed the game, other than a 10 minute spell for York in the first half.

The result was a fair reflection of the match and if we had got one more, it would not have been unjust on York - who just didn't have the pace, skill or fitness to deal with us.

Pretty much everyone brought their best game to Bootham Crescent, but Mooney's pace, aggression and interplay was outstanding-  best player swap we have ever done.

Away to Boston even with an empty ground if a very tough ask, but this team have the quality and resilience to do it.

Loving being an Alty fan these days, just gutted that these games are behind closed doors.

I enjoyed the commentary and I thought the Chester guy was entertaining - he wore his heart on his sleeve and you cannot blaime him for thar.

Picture quality was ok for me apart from when it froze for a few minutes at the beginning of the 2nd half.

Last half hour performance was worrying

I can see Duncan maybe coming to Alty at the end of his playing days at a higher level, but I really would not want that to be for a few years.

I just want to see him fulfill his enormous potential, and if he can stay injury free for a few years and retain his lightening pace on the ball, he surely will - because he really is that talented znd he deserves his time in the sun.

There will be a club willing to snap him up, and when that happens I will be following every single game he plays and willing him to success.

« on: April 06, 2020, 03:02:11 PM »
Absolutely outstanding from Duncan Watmore, but from everyone who has donated and/opr promoted this vital fundraising initiative.

As well as sharing w2ith my FB friends, I have also shared with several club and town related FB Groups, and each time this has seen a spike in donations.

What I would urge everyone to do is to share the details of the initiative with your own FB friends and also any groups that may be relevant.

For example, if anyone is on a City or United fans forum - then it is worth sharing on there as well - you might get a few comments but it would be worth it is we get a few more donations as well.

This initiative needs to  be kept going for as long as possible, and we can all play a part in it's continuing success and in safeguarding the future of our club.

T o Management Guru, if you need any help on the turnstiles on Saturday. I'm willing to assist. As a retired accountant I think I can grasp it pretty quickly! But need to know in advance. SBL :) :)
. Hi could you contact the club if you are offering to man a gate . Gate6 will be open as usual between 1 and 1.30

Gate 6 I am down to do one of the gates tomorrow - how many will we have on in total? That's assuming the match is on.
