Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Scrotes
« on: December 23, 2022, 08:14:42 PM »
Most invaded away ground was Drill field.

I remember Alty pitch invasions there in 70s, 80s and 90s - that fateful Witton CSC final game - that all turned a bit lairy!!

Being on the pitch at Gravesend for first APL win - which was very joyous but mad!  Being on the pitch at Moss Lane at the end of the following season was a great memory too.

Every FA cup win Moss Lane aqainst league opposition ever has probably culminated in final whistle pitch invasion too.

All of these characterised by passion and excitement, whereas the scrotes don't give a damn about the club from what I have observed.

They will come a cropper against a Wrexham or an Oldham though sure enough.  I remember the 15 year old baby squadders giving it large against Huddersfield in 82 until they came running straight for the Golf Road end - a few hard lessons learned that day!

By way of a contribution to this discussion, we have 5 or 6 turnstiles taking cash at every home match, and that will not change any time soon.

We also have a similar number scanning tickets.  We are acutely aware that we have only been selling tickets for one full season - 21/22 - and we cannot expect people who having been paying cash for many years to automatically switch overnight.

It seems to me that clubs who are not selling out games are mad not to accept cash at the turnstiles on the day. Customers should have a choice, and clubs at our level are not in a position to turn away business.

That said, the more advance tickets we sell, the more likely we are to get people into the ground more quickly.  Especially in the 15 minutes before kick off where we are always going to have a mad rush, no matter how often we encourage people to get there early!

Altrincham FC First Team / PRICES REMINDER FOR SATURDAY
« on: October 14, 2022, 09:28:53 PM »
Just a reminder first of all that Season Tickets do not apply for FA Cup games, so you need to buy tickets in advance or pay at the gate tomorrow.

Ticket prices have been discounted to encourage maximum attendance, and are as follows -

£15 - ADULTS

£10 - CONCESSIONS

£5 - JUNIORS - 12 TO 18 YEARS OLD

£2 - UNDER 12S.

These are great prices for a vital game, so let's hope it's a great turnout and a bouncing atmosphere tomorrow.

I really hope York make it and not just because it is pretty close to home - it is a smashing club and their fans deserve better than their current lowly position.

Shame it won't be the beautiful Bootham Crescent, but it would at least be a new ground!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Poll - attendances next season.
« on: May 16, 2022, 10:04:03 PM »
Had attendances not been restricted for several games this season, it is clear that our average would have been higher.

This combined with the terrible mid season slump in form.

A strong start maintained through the season should see us averaging 2500 plus, and every prospect of the crowd v Oldham and perhaps Wrexham if they stau down, beating the 3900 that the attendance for Stockport was capped at, and in turn becoming our new highest home league attendance since the 1960s.

On the issue of free tickets for schools the strong evidence is that the kids are coming back, with parents, when they have to pay, having caught the bug, just as so many of us did with free schools tickets back in the day.

The free tickets represent an investment in both the short and the long term future of the club, and add to the buzz and sense of excitement and fun at Moss Lane that is the best it has been for many, many years.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: current rivals
« on: May 15, 2022, 10:34:16 PM »
That reminds me, there seems to be an official Alty's rivals league for next season, with one of the Northwiches, new-club Macc, Witton and Runcorn Linnets all in the same league, plus Mossley as an added bonus (I'd love to hear about that 78/79 season - how good were Mossley?).

I understand Chester are desperate to be our rivals, but personally I don't take it much more seriously than I did Stalybridge (though I must admit I always like to beat the 1978 to 1987 FL racket).

Mossley really were that good in 78/79.  We were great, easily the 2nd best team in the NPL, and good enough to take Spurs to a replay, which set us up financially to really challenge for the APL title next season, but Mossley were far and away the best team in the league, and it was both a travesty and a relief that they did not get into the APL due to their ground, or I doubt very much that we would have won the title the following season.

They also had the most hostile bunch of hill dwelling, deliverance characters, including a gang led by a thoroughly evil miniature moustachioed skinhead who caused havoc in the Golf Road when they came to Moss Lane.  They were pretty horrible and they hated us - we were mainly just scared of Mossley, on and off the pitch!!

Altrincham FC First Team / current rivals
« on: May 12, 2022, 11:50:10 PM »
Who do people think our natural rivals currently are?

In past years the obvious contenders, depending on what generation you started watching Alty were Wigan, Macc Town, Northwich, Mossley, Runcorn, Scarborough for a while, Macc Town again, Southport intermittently, Chester in recent years, Stockport perhaps, even Wrexham at a stretch.

I am going to put in the case for Halifax.  We have both yo yo'd between NL nd NL North for a few years, have had some big 6 pointers with them, have seen big followings come to Moss Lane and we are taking more and more to theirs every time we play them. I used to think they were bigger than us, but our attendances have been higher than theirs this season, so they seem increasingly to be about our level, just as Macc, Vics, Southport have been in the past.

What do people think? Any other past or current contenders that I may have overlooked?

Stockport might struggle against Halifax, so U think it is in the balance who wins the tile still.

I like Stockport and think their fans have been class in non league, I don't like Wrexham at all, though actually most of their fans are ok, having done the away turnstile against them this season - its the few that are obnoxious bullies that makes me dislike them.

So, i should want Stockport to go up, and Wrexham to stay down, but I'd rather have Stockport back at Moss Lane next season than Wrexham, so I am torn on this.

No way is this true? how did they all get here?
By inbreeding I’m led to believe.
Whilst the previous answer is funnier, I believe that their game against the Dog And Partridge pub in Wettenhall - they are in the South and East Cheshire pub league as I understand it - was postponed due to the weather, and so a coach load and a mini bus full diverted to Moss Lane to have an utterly pointless afternoon annoying the stewards and getting wet.

What a incredibly moronic thing to do.

Never thought that I would say it but thank god for Macclesfield!!!!!  SBL

Why? Have I missed something?

Due to macc going bust there’s only 3 relegation spots

Ah yes of course! I would rephrase it as thank God Macc Town went bust! I wouldn't wish it on any club but Macc Town and their scumbag fans are a worthy exception

What the hell was that all about?

Reports differ but some say there were about 60 scrawny little sh*ts from Macc outside and trying to get into the game to cause bother. Saw a few of them outside before the game and they looked like average age 15 and rather pathetic, though I understand more turned up later.

Hope no Alty fans came to any harm, and big thanks to the professional job of work performed by the stewards who contained them and kept them out.  Had they not been on their game it would have been very unpleasant indeed.

Just aghast that these Macc scum took the trouble to come all the way to Moss Lane just to stand outside the ground being dickheads

The Goodison and first White Hart Lane results were more impressive in many ways - Everton were top of the old Division 1 when we played them, and Spurs' side was littered with internationals, including world cup winners Ardiles and Villa.  But these weren't giant killings technically, as the giant got back up and beat us easily both times in the replays.

The Brum game was against a side in total freefall who could not buy a win and who's fans had deserted them - but it was still a win away at a top division side and was an awesome night and exceptional achievement.

For me, our greatest FA Cup night was home to Sheffield United in 1980 (?).  3 0 win which could have been more, a crowd reported as 8000 originally but suspiciously revised down to 5180 - and the best atmosphere in all my many years visiting Moss Lane - Trafford Council would have puppies at how full the Golf Road was - with no barriers the whole place just swayed back and forth, side to side, for the whole match and never stopped singing. Each goal was utter bedlam as I recall.

All topped off with the, at that time, ritual big fight in Stamford Park after the match - though my 14 year old legs, and those of my mates, did nothing but run when the Sheffield fans broke down the gate at the Chequers end and steamed out onto Moss Lane!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Grimsby Away Tickets
« on: January 09, 2022, 06:15:00 PM »
You're right - there is no option for away fans to buy tickets which either means we pay on the gate or have to buy at ticket office on the day - which seems daft.

Anyone else been able to buy tickets or have more info about what is going on?
