Altrincham FC First Team / Re: AFC Fylde Match Thread..
« on: August 29, 2023, 04:02:42 PM »
Having just listened to Phil's take on yesterday's performance at Mill Farm and having thought about the whole Awayday experience again I offer the following positives:-

The travelling Alty support in the Away End was a wonder to behold from where I was sitting especially when we scored.  I could see that the players were made up with it whilst their stewards were remarkably not.

This was our best ever result against Fylde.  Granted we have only ever played them 4 times but look at how poor we have been

First meeting NLN (H) LOST 0-6
Second meeting NLN (A) LOST 1-4
Third Meeting FAC (A) LOST 1-2
Forth Meeting NL (A) DRAW 3-3

If this pattern of results is to continue then we should beat them at Moss Lane in the return fixture.

The game was full of incident and I enjoyed the day out.  The chips were tasty too.  They were sort of a cross between a chip and a small roastie.

York like to sack managers on a regular basis.

Yes. Their Owner/Chairman seems to have "Peter Swales" Syndrome.

TBF there didn't seem to be much love for him among the fans.

Swales sacked no less than 11 Managers during his 20 year reign at City and if you discount Tony Book and John Bond who managed almost 8 years between them an appointment as City Manager was like the kiss of death with very few, if in fact any, lasting a full season in charge.

Given that Bond, McNeill and Kendall all quit, who are the 11 that he sacked?

Oh Yes, forgive me. I can see my error in that.  Whether it makes any difference to my intended assertion that Peter Swales was ruthless with Managers at City during his time there I will leave to individuals to decide.

Following Marcus Dinanga's move to Gateshead he immediately demonstrated that he was, indeed, possessing of the goal-scoring talent that we had all thought he was carrying when he signed for us.

He was not a good fit at Alty and the barrage of criticism he received from our fans (myself included) led to me vow that in future I would only write positive things about the players and their performance otherwise nothing at all.

I have nothing at all to say about today's performance except that I will happily take the point as an early Birthday gift.

@ukrainian Alty
Gutted cannot make Monday due to work
There will be tougher games to go,can we perform like that on a cold
Tuesday night in winter down in the depths of places like Aldershot(no offence to Aldershot)
Love your enthusiasm by the way and a great post earlier, but a bit early to be getting over excited
IMO next test on Monday, what a horrible place to go,on past experience horrible fans and the stewards are awful as well, unless things have changed there.

Yeah, I did perhaps go a bit over the top earlier but I am certain that Phil will have the full backing of the board to bring more high calibre players to the club to provide the strength in depth as the season progresses and we continue to maintain a realistic challenge.

They had the best of a rather un-in-spire-ing first half but they were only marginally better than us.  I was disappointed when they scored but began to see that we were likely to get a result as we began to improve more and more towards the last 10-15 minutes.  Their 'dirty' tactics got them nowhere because the Referee soon found the measure of them and their cynical felling of our players virtually every time that we got the better of them (and that was a lot of times).

I was happy with the Ref's overall performance on balance even though I think that he missed a blatant hand ball in the penalty area early in the 2nd half. I guess that he must not of had a clear view of it.

The second half and injury time was pure class from Alty and they were given a lesson on how to play.  I had to pinch myself to ensure that I was not dreaming and I knew by the time the equalising goal went in that we would win.

You could count the number of real chances they had in the 2nd half on one finger and Alty just got better and better.  If Alty had won 7-1 it would not have been an unfair result.

For me they could all have been 'Man of the Match' today, but if I was to pick only one of them I would go for Justin HAMMERS_THE_ LOSERS and he did just that.  He embarrassed the best they had over and over, time and time, again and he is a hero there in the making.

I just love this Alty team and they have the potential to take the National League title + A couple of decent FA cup scalps and, of course, not to forget the FA Trophy.  The least I can see this group of players achieving this season is a High Play-off position (Semi- Finals) + 3rd Round FAC + FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

I AM SO EXCITED.  This team has the look of a successful one and I think will even eclipse our successes of the late 70s, early 80s.

We really battered Chesterfield today and the whole of Chesterfield knows it.  Their players know it.  Their manager knows it, Their supporters know it and none of them will be wanting to watch the highlights which I can hardly wait for.

I could go on but I am sure you get the idea.  They won't be making any excuses about 'playing badly today' because they didn't play badly at all and I thought at half time that they looked like the best we have seen so far this season.

If they are really the favourites to win the National League we are going to walk it.  Get your money on quick the odds will be tumbling soon.

As Brian would say 'Come on you Supers!'

We need to be careful of Co-co.  He is certainly no clown and if they pick Berry we need to ensure that we squash his chances of scoring.

We really rocked first half and after Reggie scored I really thought that we might massacre them. It would have been smashing if we could have been out of sight by half time as I truly believe we deserved to be. They employed physical tactics from the beginning and these increased as the referee chose to allow them, time over time again to trip, push and kick our players openly and with impunity.  They were clearly a physically fit group of players and they sought to launch the ball in a variety of different forms towards the Alty penalty area.  As Parky pointed out in his after-match chat with Brian Flynn, we absorbed their high ball tactics and their physical manhandling only to come unstuck by a pulled back cross of the kind usually taken care of by us as a matter of routine.

I was disappointed to see our best two performing players of the day replaced and after they were gone Boreham looked as though they might steal it.  On reflection, I see the importance of protecting our assets to ensure that they will be fit and available to play against the Spirites next Saturday.

I thought #19, Sousa, was good for them.

Elliot continues to impress me but needs to be less reckless with some of his tackling.

ALTYFC are simply the best... and better than all the rest!

Revenue was definitely lost today with many people opting not to queue up for 15-20 minutes to get a beer.

I can only imagine the chaos when we get a decent sized crowd in.  It really needs to be twice as big. I would suggest I kiosk for food, 2 kiosks for beer and an extra one that can be brought into use on the busiest days.

I realise that space is an issue but could we not look at expanding upwards.  Perhaps something like a Mezzanine steel structure with steps leading up to a seating area.

Now then... On first blush after I wrote this I thought that it was a reasonable idea. After 2nd blush following a good night sleep I think not.

I counted their supporters several times during the game and the most I could come up with was 22. I guess the other 16 were in the Atlantic Timber main stand or otherwise taking an extended comfort break.

Was that fan of theirs gesturing for a fight?  I only remember three other singletons wanting to do that in the past and they were (1) a fat Hereford fan, (2)
a 15 year old Chester Fan wearing a River Island creation masquerading as a Hi-viz jacket and (3) a Jesus lookalike from Bradford P.A.

They drew the following retorts:
(1) "I am a cider drinker, I drinks it all of the day" and 'Ooh arr, ooh arr, ooh arr, ooh arr, etc.
(2) "Are you a lifeboatman?, Are you a lifeboatman? etc. and "Are you school bus monitor"
(3) "We've got a friend in Jesus"
