Altrincham FC First Team / Alty-Friendly Pubs around and about.
« on: July 03, 2023, 07:47:11 PM »
I called in at the Railway Inn at Mobberley a few days ago and they have a fixture list, albeit the last one, on the notice board in the vault.

The nearby Chapel House used to be a favourite haunt of some Alty Directors in the 1970s/1980s but I see that it has gone now converted into a private dwelling.

Altrincham FC First Team / Past memories of the Golf Road
« on: June 22, 2023, 10:07:24 AM »
I was just remembering when the Away end was no more than a pile of compacted hard core covered with weeds and absolutely no terracing or crush barriers at all. You could feel the broken bricks sticking into your feet through the soles of your shoes.
Only a handful of teams ever used to bring more than a very few visiting supporters.  I remember that Wigan came to town in about 1974/5 with at least two coaches full of 14-18 year old denim and Doc Martin clad bovver-boys with scarves knotted around both wrists and their early arrival at Moss Lane led to the usurping of our regular domain behind the GRE goal.  I remember that they were generally a friendly bunch and so we set up camp as close to them in the GRE as we reasonably could.  When they chanted 'Wigan' they used to prefix it with 'Er' (sort of like Er-WIG-AN, Er-WIG-AN, a bit like some of our fans have taken to chanting 'The' AL-TY).  I think maybe a three syllable chant lends itself to be a more aesthetically pleasing sound.  Anyway...  back to the tale...
Kenny came along and placed himself within the body of Wigan fans and he began to Zigger without somehow realising that he had joined the wrong crowd.  He drew plenty of laughter and a few rude remarks from the Wiganites before being ejected from their ranks whilst uttering ‘Steady on now!’

Although I think it highly unlikely, it would be interesting to know if anyone remembers this happening or remembers talk of it.

"Leeds United Fined £100

... following report of a commission held at Manchester on Monday. July 10th: The commission considered a complaint by the Altrincham F.C. that Leeds United had approached and signed G. Sellars, an amateur player of their club while he was still in the forces ..."

Altrincham FC First Team / Can Torquay pull off the great escape?
« on: April 29, 2023, 07:00:34 PM »
It could be possible.  They are currently level on points with Maidenhead who are carrying a 3 goal difference advantage.

Current scores are Torquay 1 Wrexham 0 and Gateshead 3 Maidenhead 0

Virtually everything that Coco and CCC had a hand in.  I think that it may be some time before we have two players as good as them at the club together at the same time. They were class.

Maxi is the best young prospect that we have seen for a long time.  He cuts through defensive lines like a hot knife through butter and is a pleasure to watch. He reminds me a lot of Duncan.

The late equaliser and Ollie Byrne's fantastic penalty save against Wrexham brought back to me a sense of excitement that I hadn't felt since before Covid lockdown started (Who cares if it was only their reserve team).

The FAT Quarter Final game at York was magic.  I loved every single minute of it and was especially pleased that Jordan scored.

The Good Friday Away-day at Oldham generated a great atmosphere and what a last 10 minutes we had there.

We reached the Trophy Semi-Final and who didn't think after 89 minutes we were about to do enough to make our 4th trip to Wembley? Who amongst us can honestly say that they were not enjoying themselves up until that point?

On balance I have enjoyed myself and I'm not bothered where we finish in the table now so long as we don't go down.

In reality I don't think that it would ever become an issue for us to worry about because the Club is registered at Companies House as ALTRINCHAM ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED.  We could probably just register the replacement as ALTRINCHAM FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED.

Altrincham FC First Team / We are the famous Alty FC
« on: February 10, 2023, 11:22:27 AM »
How cool is this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpefjBEzwSQ&t=109s  Please make sure you play it from the beginning.  You may need to adjust it.

The Channel seems to be the work of an Ajax fan and showcases Football Culture.  Did anyone else know about this?  Amsterdam Alty perhaps?

It shows us in a positive light and has drawn good feedback from those who have commented.  Word is spreading that we are a bit special

Did I say that I think we have the best chance of lifting the FA Trophy in a generation?

Bring it on.

Non Altrincham FC Talk / Condate Alty is now Ukrainian Alty
« on: March 22, 2022, 11:58:57 PM »
My wife is Ukrainian and consequently my 17 year old son and 13 year old daughter are both as much Ukrainian as they are British.  My wife comes from a rural area close to the Russian border in what was Luhansk Oblast (Luhansk City Region).  We last visited my In-laws and my wife's eldest sister who still live there in 2012.  We would have gone again since but Russia invaded Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk in 2014 and annexed these areas declaring Crimea to be a part of Russia and the two cities and the immediate area around then to be 'Independent Republics'.  The area where my In-laws live was not seized at that time and so was placed under the administration of another Ukrainian region where it remained until February 24th 2022.
Russian tanks took the area within the first few hours of the invasion and replaced the Ukrainian flag with a Russian one before moving on towards Kharkiv.  The locals have restored their flag but as the conflict has gone on they have lost their phone signal and the food shops are almost empty. They still have an internet connection of sorts so my wife is still in contact with them.  There is no way out for them and even if there was they are not well enough to trek half way across Europe.  They have livestock (a cow, chickens, and turkeys) and lots of stored preserved fruit and vegetables and so we are confident that they will be OK.
My wife has told me that her sister who is a teacher of Ukrainian History has now been told to sign a contract stating that she will no longer teach the history of Ukraine and she must now teach Russian History (as it is defined by them).  Lessons are to be conducted in Russian language.

About 15 years ago I bought the cottage next door to my In-Laws.  I now need a Russian visa to go there !!!  I am happy to answer any questions that anyone has.

Altrincham FC First Team / Team Colours
« on: March 22, 2022, 11:50:37 PM »
What a wonderful result that is.  I have been unable to attend many games recently due to diminishing health but I saw tonight's game and was able to spend the first half on the GR before retiring to the main stand for the rest of the game.  I was pleased that Alty chose to wear the national colours of Ukraine tonight and I have elaborated more on the Non Altrincham FC Category.

Can at least one of you have the mettle to give us a summary of :-

What event happened that has led to the indefinite shutdown of over half the spectator areas?

Exactly what needs to be done essentially to satisfy TBC?

Do we have ANY funds available to pay for the work?

If we pay for the improvements will it leave us in a precarious position with regard to paying player and staff wages and other monthly bills?

Frankly, how bad is it?

The fans at Alty are special and we want to help but you need to be honest with us and sooner rather than later!

For and on behalf of all Alty fans and supporters everywhere.

PS.  When the end was nigh for Macclesfield Town they stopped communicating with their fans.  Lets not go there please.

Altrincham FC First Team / Poll: Where will Altrincham finish?
« on: October 11, 2021, 03:05:21 PM »
I think that it will be interesting to see how supporters are feeling about our prospects after a great start to the season.  In the previous poll conducted by Hugh on 16 August there were a total of 57 respondents and only 3 (a measly 5.3%) said that we would finish in the top 7.

I, myself voted for 12th - 14th, but I am now optimistic enough to go for 2nd or 3rd.  I think that Grimsby or Chesterfield will probably win the title.

Altrincham FC First Team / New/Returning Fans Watch
« on: October 06, 2021, 07:54:34 PM »
I stood on the Golf Road on Tuesday and began to chat to two lads who it transpired were students at Salford University.  They had heard about Alty's brand of attractive football and had decided to come and see it for themselves.  One of them was a Bath City fan and the other guy followed AFC Wimbledon.

They joined in with the singing and chanting and celebrated the goals with the rest of us.  I think that the momentum is growing all the time now and we are heading in a very positive direction.

We need to spread the word and encourage lapsed supporters and those yet to be baptised into the Alty family to join us on what I anticipate will be a wonderful journey.

...Oh, Yes,sir its that Mooney...
