I’d happily take Jake King for the record.

Not looking forward to this one bit.

             Byrne

Barrows.   Mullarkey.   Cooper.   Baines

                 Osbourne.    Lundstram

        Bennett.  Conn-Clarke.  Colclough

                            Hulme

About 4 close calls as to starting 11 .

Solihull 2-0 Alty

You see this is the thing. That is more or less our best starting XI and it just hasn’t been up to it yet.

Need more pace. I’ll take anything from Saturday

Looks odd on the face of it. Sami is already in that position and can’t even get in the bench?  One for the long term maybe, expect to see him out on loan somewhere.

I think you and a couple of others are over rating Sami a bit if I’m honest? I’d like to be proved wrong but I think he’s a bit of a squad filler while we were short in attacking positions.

I think if anything you’re more likely to see Kaja (injured yday I believe) than Sami.

But who knows I guess. Hopefully Zak Goodson will do well here. I guess he’s been playing and scoring this season, albeit at a lower level so we’ll see how he goes. He says he pacey and we could certainly do with a bit more pace up front.

I think that we’ll see the same team that played v Yeovil.

Partly because Parky is stubborn but also because there’s a big game 48 hours later v Chesterfield. I can’t imagine Barrows would play on Saturday and be able to play again on Monday. Likely to go with the 4 centre backs in the face of a probable aerial bombardment.

I’ve no idea to be honest. I’m just pointing out that the teams for both games are linked together.

I’m not sure the things I’d like to see/changes I’d make are really possible in light of our tight options (ie, get the ball moving forward through midfield more). Think we’ll have a bit of pain before we get a decent winger signed up.

In the meantime I’ll take absolutely anything on Saturday (and Monday)

You spoke slightly too soon.

It was 3 x 30 mins.

We won 4-3.

Kaja put us 4-1 up before they got a couple back .

Before anyone gets too excited at us beating their u23s just be aware that they’re at home to Everton tonight…

Having seen the highlights this morning, I think Mee probably could have done better with the goals, but not should have done better if you know what I mean.

They were quite clean strikes that were close to him, if he’d managed to save them they’d have been good saves. I’ve seen them saved like but I think I’d probably be criticising for criticisings sake if I was too grumpy with him about it.

The play looks a lot quicker on the highlights than it did at the actual game incidentally.

If that bit you walked across is the designated way across then it probably needs marking out as such. It’s not actually that visible if you’re not a regular.

I didn’t get daggers as such but I was walking across the view of 20 people with my 2 boys rather than brushing past 3 media people so I can see why upset.

There’s no other facilities on the other side of the stand is there.

That said, it’s a relative non issue in the scheme of things.

I do think signing Jones might have been far too based on sentiment - Barrow fans couldn't wait to get rid of him and we'd finished our recruitment in that area of the park.

Interestingly, Harry Perritt and Eddy Jones have only been unused subs for their respective clubs' League Cup games - I'd have them both back in a heartbeat - with Perritt at the base of the midfield, pushing Osborne and Lundstram further up the pitch, and doing away with a Number 10 for the time being.

Jones had an injury last year (as did Lundstram) which may have set him back a bit and he looks short of a gallop at the very least.

If Jones or any other centre back is off form/not at the races then they need benching.

Like you, maybe Perritt and Jones thought they’d feature more prominently that they have but given there are two players we know can massively improve us (without having to gamble on new loanees and see how they go etc) I’m hoping it’s at least under consideration.

I actually think having them back would help Baines and Brockbank settle in, it’s a little bit sink or swim at the moment isn’t it.

Actually, are we constrained by the number of loanees we can have, given that we have 3 (Mee, CCC, Bennett) already?

Edit: just to add, we really need Toby back at rcb and build round him rather than shoving him at rb. We’ve sacrificed one of our biggest strengths to not really solve a weakness imo.

I concur with that. I don’t know whether it’s a lack of confidence or just pace down the flanks but we aren’t going forward enough. Could be Osborne and Lundstram not quite gelling but we’re not quite brave enough facing forward (like Jake was) but we aren’t passing through the lines at all. In fact, times when we can play into midfield we keep going back.

I’ve been critical of Bennett and remain unconvinced but there were a few times he was showing for the ball ‘in the hole’ and not getting it.

The hesitancy of the standard passing across the back is doing my head in, get some pace on it.

It’s getting a bit embarrassing watching our best centre half tripping over the ball on the right wing. Lord knows there’s enough of the back 4 who could be dropped for him to go back to his natural position.

Marple Alty may be right we just need to gel a bit but by God, I’ve sat through two Altrincham performances this week that have been really bad. And by bad I mean, technically, tactically and physically as well as being boring and not attractive to watch. It’s a long time since I’ve endured two games like that.

Happy to get the late equaliser but we’ve got to sort ourselves out, at the moment I’d say no ones place is safe and I can’t agree with the managers assessment that we’ve recruited well this summer I’m afraid.

Useful as I don’t think Conn-Clarke or Bennett in particular have the pace to cause problems on the flanks.

If he can just occupy the opposition enough to free some space for Colclough that’ll do a job.

Well, that was pretty poor if I’m honest. Ponderous and timid in possession, no flexibility, some positional changes that didn’t work and gifted them two goals.

It’s not the time to panic or get too down about it but we’ve got to take the bull by the horns and get serious now. Sort the goal keeper situation, tell Barrows to get fit, sign at least two more adults who’ve played football and get aggressive in the final third.

We’ve essentially done the same passing over and over again and expected a different result. Insanity?

Baines held up well, we didn’t look too threatened by them but it was like a training ground game. Need to crack on now.

Good post.  It's very unfortunate that Dermot Mee's first significant contribution was to make a mistake which led to a goal, but that was the case, and his team-mates therefore have that worrying lack of confidence in him.

We actually had two strikers on for a time tonight, but stiil seem to be prone to pass it around the circle that one time too often, trying to find the perfect opportunity rather than have a go at goal.

The players aren't suddenly bad players though, so we can turn this around, starting against a Yeovil Town team who have had a worse start than us.

In fairness to Mee,  anyone who T**ts a ball from near enough half way unnanounced is going to struggle to control it.

Clearly the ball caught him out as it probably wouldnt have been deemed a backpass.

He made two great saves at 1 nil.

Couldn’t make last night but fact of the matter re Mee is that United are trusting us with one of their kids for an extended period for the first time in god knows how many years-for the long term health of the club that can only be a good thing. Now, if only we could get City to do the same…

I thought the same, obviously the lad needs to perform but hopefully we look after him and it's the start of a decent long term relationship.

He’ll never ever play a first team game for Man Utd so they’re entrusting us with rock all if we’re honest about it.

Think you might be going slightly over the top on Sami but when he came on last night he at least looked arsed, which is a start.

I should add that the travelling support was superb, 80/90 or so. A healthy dose of exiles.

Can confirm that Toby should not play right wing at all.

Not sure CCC and Bennet are up to it. One of them is most certainly enough.
