After the Aldershot game, like a few other people I have spoken to, I never really, really felt a whole relegation smack in the face. I knew there was a distinct possibility it may happen. It's been on my mind constantly for 6 weeks now, I've checked daily for news of Halifaxs takeover, Crawleys cva, Weymuffs administration, Vics pantomime etc and now..

Now it's happened.

Obviously jubilation etc but now I sort of realise I'm back in the 'normal' boring pre season nowhere world. I'm missing the adrenelin of relegation / reprieve like some sort of herion addict I suppose. Still on the plus side, we now have the shortest pre season out of everyone. Suppose I'd better wait till peoples contracts run out at the end of June to see if there any possible signings.

Sigh.  :)

Anyone know what I mean?

Altrincham FC First Team / Clubs in crisis.
« on: June 04, 2007, 10:35:23 AM »
just one more thing.

Re clubs that are supposedly in crisis. Ought to point out that these teams will all be sorted by the time the agm comes round. Where is the point of coming to the rescue any time before you have to?

I bet Halifax are sorted in the next week, Bsoton will be too, Weymouth will sort themselves out - folly in the extreme to jeopardise somethng to spent £2million quid on. Crawley willl pay off the CVA with the money that there *new investor* is bringing in, I mean where's the problem with that as far as they are concerned, they've still only paid half of what they spent. Have given up trying to work out Mike Connett though.

*Majeeds have 'cash' from 'activities' that can't go through the books. Brown envelopes > Evans. Evans comes in as the manager with 'new funds' to invest*

Whilst I don't think it will help us this time I'm actually starting to think that with the shenanigans that go on it's better that Clapham, Peake, Moules and co can decide who they want and don't want in the league on a behind the scenes voted out on atechnicality type of way.

Altrincham FC First Team / Conference relegation odds
« on: June 04, 2007, 10:26:38 AM »
Whilst a touchy sibject right now, Blue Square are doing odds for bnext seasons relegation candidates. A few things stand out as good value - Farsley at evens, Histon at 7/2 for example. The one that really stands out for me though is Northwich. Burr has gone, God only knows what Connett is up to, I'm sure a few players will leave. Before the fall out I'd have expected them to have a similar season. Now though? 5/2??? :o

Celtic evens BET   Halifax Town 7/1 BET

Altrincham FC First Team / Gareth Seddon
« on: June 04, 2007, 09:45:27 AM »
Just read an interesting piece on the boy re how he had to go part time with Hyde, he can now go back to full time training as his condition has eased. With all the rave reviews about his performance for the National XI it got me thinking, a shame that GH couldn't tempt him here either when he came back or in January, according to the NLP we were interested alog with Droylsden but he signed a 3 year :o contract with Hyde. Also, a pity we didn't stay up, I think a move to a part time BSP team to get him in the shop window may have been appealing.

All ifs and buts I guess, would like to see us get another goalscorer in though. I take it Ronnie Morgan who wants to leave Cammell Laird after scoring plenty will require an above average fee.

Any other strikers that could be available?

Altrincham FC First Team / A chip of the old block for Alfreton
« on: June 02, 2007, 04:58:22 PM »
"Nicky Law's fifth signing this week is Kyle McFadzean, 20, who joined the Reds on Saturday. He is the son of former Reds favourite John who scored 80 goals [for Alfreton] in 188 appearances during the Danny Hague/Paul Mitchell era.
Sheffield-born Kyle is a 6'1'' defender who was released by Sheffield United in May. He signed a full contract with the Blades in September 2005 and made one full appearance during the 2005/06 campaign."

I hope for Alfretons sake he makes the step up to BSNorth level a bit better than his dear old dad did!  :D

Altrincham FC First Team / Ged Kielty (I love this)
« on: May 24, 2007, 02:14:59 PM »
Ged appointment as Trafford manager has been noticed on Port Chat and someone has referred to him as a Wembley legend which to be fair he is to them. Ged has posted back to say thanks as he obviously still likes Southport. Spot the best bit  8)

"It's great to be classed as a Wembley Legend! I've took over at Trafford FC and hope to make a success of management. I've been around the non league circuit for years, been at good clubs and awful clubs and I'm happy to say that Southport is one of the good clubs (second only to Alty). If the port are playing away and you've got a bit of diesel or petrol spare, then come and watch Trafford. One to watch is Trafford versus Squires Gate, then two Wembley Legends are playing, myself and Brian Butler. All I need to do now is persuade Gambo to come out of retirement and play on the left for us! Good luck to the Port next season, the club still holds a special place in my heart."

Altrincham FC First Team / Crawley

You'll like this Ecky, bear in mind it's a bit out of date as Begbies Traynor it seems have only been sent 20% of the money but it was on the crawley forum. The bit I've highliighted in bold is the most incredible thing I've ever read on the internet or indeed anywhere else.

Unbelievable  :o

Not for sale
By Tom Gurney
Crawley owner Azwar Majeed today quashed rumours of a takeover.

Majeed insists he has no plans to sell up now Reds are close to being debt free following a year of financial problems and reiterated his desire to take the club into the Football League.

Crawley owed creditors around £500,000 after entering voluntary administration last summer.

A number of potential buyers were thought to have come forward after Crawley clinched Conference survival on the last day of the season.

But in a statement exclusively to The Argus, Majeed said: "I can confirm that (administrators) Begbies Traynor have been sent the money for the CVA and it is now just a matter of a few formalities - crossing the Ts and dotting the Is before the creditors are paid in full.

"There is no takeover planned and I do not have any plans to sell now or in the immediate future but I will say that my door is always open to anyone potentially interested in investing or buying into Crawley Town Football Club."

Majeed is currently interviewing potential new managers for next season and wants to make an appointment by the end of next week.

The club advertised the position last week after sacking caretaker boss John Yems.

Former Stevenage and Rushden boss Graham Westley is believed to be among the contenders along with a number of other well known names.

Majeed has spoken to three candidates already and says whoever gets the job will have money available to build a squad good enough to push for promotion.

He said: "New applications for the manager's job are coming in as we speak and the board of directors are preparing a shortlist of prospective new managers.

"The successful candidate will have to fit a list of criteria and convince the board that he is the correct person who will be able to complete our main objective and be able to drive Crawley into the Football League.

"The manager will be taking over virtually a brand new football club that is debt free and with the financial backing to go out and choose his squad for the upcoming season."

Majeed has urged all fans to put the uncertainty of last season behind them. Some supporters have boycotted home games in protest at the way the club has been run.

Majeed said: "Next season I hope that the fans, new and old, will support the team from the first game to the last game.

"In an increased drive to keep the future of Crawley supporters coming through the turnstiles for years to come, any under-16s will be charged just £3 per match for the whole of next season."

Altrincham FC First Team / Chris Senior released by Halifax
« on: May 09, 2007, 01:09:39 PM »
Along with a couple of others, no surprise when you need £11k to cover March and Aprils payment let alone the cva/

http://www.halifaxtoday.co.uk/local-sport?articleid=2862137

Jimmy, do the honours with the click on link thing will you.

Suppose Chris knew he'd be released and now has a decision to make, does he stay full time? There may not be a full time offer available to him. If he wants to stay in the conference then there are a number of part time clubs who would have him who are closer to his home, Droylsden for one, possibly Farsley Celtic for another, both would trump our wages for sure particularly Farsley who seem to have money to spend (Ryan Sugden, Craig Midgley, Carl Serrant). In the Conf North, the likes of Harrogate and Hyde might want him.

I see they've kept Steve Torpey though. ;)

Altrincham FC First Team / Southport to remain full time
« on: May 01, 2007, 11:55:39 AM »
Interesting!  :)

PRESS RELEASE FULL TIME

SANDGROUNDERS MAINTAIN AMBITION

PORT LOOKING TO ACHIEVE BOUNCEBACKABILITY

Southport Football Club announced on Tuesday that they will be retaining full time playing status next season. This is a highly ambitious decision at Haig Avenue and shows the clubs determination to be highly competitive as they kick off next season. Manager Peter Davenport finished the season with an impressive run of performances and the former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest star has now been given the go ahead to build his full time squad for the Blue Square North next season. Davenport’s last Conference home match saw a record home league attendance at Haig Avenue in 33 years and with that amount of enthusiasm in the town the hope is there will be a winning habit at Haig Avenue next season.

Chairman Charlie Clapham and Vice Chairman Sam Shrouder have given the go ahead to be full time for a second season and the intention is to return to the Blue Square Premier as quickly as possible. Supporters in the town will be impressed by the clubs decision to start the season as possibly the only Blue Square North club operating as a full time club. Kettering Town are currently full time and are now in the play offs aiming to achieve Blue Square Premier status.

Chairman Charlie Clapham stated “ Following what has been a very difficult transitional season from Part Time to Full Time to reverse this after one season could be seen as a negative policy, the manager believes that to remain Full Time gives the club the best chance of regaining our National status at the earliest opportunity, the club will operate on an affordable budget which the manager is fully supportive of. We believe our supporters will see our course of action as being very positive laying down our marker that we must get back in the National division as a priority”

Tomorrow need sfull support and heart, IF :o we score that is an impetus to spur the lads on further with the atmosphere, not this immediate lull when people start txting someone the score or details etc to absent friends it does my head in.

SORT YOUR HEADS OUT AND CONCENTRATE ON MATTERS AT HAND
1. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow does not deserve to be updated or notified of the score. F*** em.

2. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow with a reasonable excuse (Alty USA) etc will be safely ensconced in front of the internet / ceefax etc and will know what's going on anyway.

3. Any 'Alty fan' who hasn't made it to Moss Lane tomorrow with a reasonable excuse or otherwise who hasn't even managed to do the last part of 2. may be texted as long as it is a substitute for never actually speaking to them again.

That is all.

EDIT: No it's not, I should obviously add as well that anyone who takes the liberty of doing an easy clap should we be leading can expect at the very least a good slap, even if you you are only 6 years old.

Altrincham FC First Team / Ex Alty player appointed as manager...
« on: April 26, 2007, 11:20:57 AM »
...he's an ex Alty midfielder....he's local.....they're local......any guesses?

 ???

Thursday 26th April       GED KIELTY IS THE 'NEW' MANAGER OF TRAFFORD FC
Trafford Football Club are pleased to announce that 31 year old Ged Kielty (left) Trafford's midfielder has been named as the new club manager, following in the footsteps of Danny Johnson who has
decided to moved up a level to join Unibond League Premier Division side Ashton United as their manager.
Ged started his football career as a youngster with Manchester City. He then moved on to Irish side Cork Ramblers returning to England to play for Southport, Barrow, Altrincham, Leigh RMI, Hyde United and after a 22 month 'retirement' he returned to football this season by joining Trafford.
Ged has also won International caps with the Eire Under 18's, a runners-up FA Trophy medal with Southport and a Unibond Premier League Championship medal with Altrincham.
Ged who was born in Urmston was voted last night's Trafford's Man of the Match by our opponents FC United in our magnificent 4-4 draw at Gigg Lane, takes charge for this Saturday's final game of the season at Silsden (Keighley) as Danny Johnson is away on business commitments (honest !).
The Chairman Tom Walmsley and his Board of Directors would again like to sincerely thank Danny for his three and a half years of intense hard work and dedication to the club and wish him 'all the best' for the future. The board would also like to wish Ged every success in the future with his new project as 'Manager of Trafford Football Club'.

Altrincham FC First Team / Attendances
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:24:09 PM »
Alty fans in attendance thread shocker :)

For those of you interested in this type of thing, last nights attendance pushed us past last seasons aggregate with a game to spare. 22730 (ave 1137) from 20 games as opposed to 22006 (1048) from 21. Just generally nice to see a rise in attendances. Regardless off decent gates v Vics, Oxford and Southport I'd say we've averaged about 80-100 new home fans per game. In order to average 100 more than last season (i.e.1048) we'd need to pull in 3674 from the last 3 fixtures. Unlikely as Exeter will bring a few, G&N won't and it'll be our lowest gate and Aldershot may either bring loads for a party or an unlikely play off spot.

Last seasons lowest 688 v G&N, highest 1447 v Morecambe
This season 886 v Woking / 2330 v Vics.

Ahem, bollocks. Lowest gate (so far :-X is 829 against Grays last week)

Interesting to note that since 1986-87  this would only be the 5th time we've averaged over a thousand.

1986/7 -  1349
1990/91 when we were awesome 1385
1994-95 Maunders/Spurs year 1002
Last season 1048 and so far 1137 this year.

Just like to say in a none embarrassing ssort of way well done to everyone, ML is a cracking atmos, esp as because I'm a dawdler when I get around to the corner (when we shoot towards Chequers) I seem to have to stand further down the side due to increased numbers (welcome aboard Jim Fallon, hope you've enjoyed coming down and all others).

There's a pertinent photo in the sponsors lounge of a Unibond game where you can stand where you bloody like in that corner and it doesn't take long to identify the hard core. Maybe that was from the 2003-2004 Unibond season where we averaged 584  8) (A 94.69178% increase I think)

Altrincham FC First Team / Collection for Micky Woodward last night.
« on: March 21, 2007, 10:25:17 PM »
I wanted to buy Micky Woodward a drink last night but was shy, he also had his entourage (who were thoroughly nice people) wth him so had a little whip round last night. Obviously it was nothing really official and I only asked people I knew if they wnated to chip.

So if you did put money in the pot, first of all thanks and just to let you  know we ended up with £55.50. Now as it turned out Geoff had already said that anything Mick Woodward and his friends wanted from the bar was to be on the house and at no point was he to have to pay for anything. Having already given us £20,000 last year effectively

I gave it to Jenny who gave it Mick Woodward and forced him to accept it and get themselves a drink or some fish and chips on the way home or something. I'm told he was overwhelmed and very touched that anyone was arsed at all (God knows how he'd feel if he knew just how much respect and gratitude we have for him). Being the (in my opinion) very humble bloke that he is he wouldn't accept it at first but as I say Jenny forced him and again he was very touched.

So thanks for contributing and thank you Mick Woodward for all that you've done for us and we have you here next season for a conference national fixture.

Oh and also the night was topped off by getting the chance to have a chat with one of my all time Alty heroes Nicky Daws. Top man and obviously a great deal of affection still for the club and GH. Magic player and still look like he could play now (think he's about 37/38)
