Altrincham FC First Team / Winning 3-2 at Vics 18 years ago today

http://www.lusa.u-net.com/thruyear.htm

The 1989 win, just realised I'm getting old but would I be correct in thinking that the match in question was Barry Diamond's only contribution finest hour in an Alty shirt?

Anyone?

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty trivia question
« on: November 18, 2007, 11:24:11 PM »
I know the Cult is racking his brains on this one.

Who is the last Alty player to score a goal and an own goal in the same game (as Ryan SHotton did yesterday)??

Altrincham FC First Team / Chris Seniors 2nd goal yesterday
« on: November 18, 2007, 11:22:45 PM »
Was very John Brady v Runcorn (Aug90) and Barnet (Mar91) esque, with a slight hhint of Ronnie Ellis v Lincoln in the FA Cup about it.

 :)

Anyway, a question. This is from JohnLaidlars match report.

Alty took the lead which came after two long throws in succession from Shotton. Weymouth cleared the ball but only to Sedgemore, just outside the front edge of the box. His excellent header set Senior free and from right of goal he beat the keeper with a fine shot (67 mins).

Is it just me (and joe) but I am sure that it was Darren Tinson's header which set up this goal? Absolutely convinced that it was him rather than Sedge, he did really weel to guide it to Senior as well.

Anyone?

Altrincham FC First Team / TESCOS BOYCOTT
« on: November 09, 2007, 01:56:23 PM »
Personally, I've decided that I won't be shopping at Tescos again. I feel that they have used our biggest day for years to get some free publicity that they hardly need. They have contributed nothing to this club and indeed have badly affected local shops. That was by the by before but I am pissed off about the way they have shamelessy exploited this Millwall game.

Not a major point I know and they'll hardly miss my custom but from now on I will be shopping at local shops or just to stick one up at them Sainsburys in Alty.

That said, weekly shopping must equate to a couple of thousand pounds a year. I would urge any Alty fans who use Tesco to boycott them as well, I'd like them to miss out on the revenue that we're missing out on with this cup tie scaremongering.

Inadvertentley, this is rapidly turning into a cult classic. Make sure you read the responses to the story, it's got it all, incredulousness, irony, Millwall and Alty fans both amazed at the wierdoes.

My current favourite response is the brilliant opportunism from Sainsburys

Altrincham FC First Team / Who is your ultimate Alty legend?
« on: October 19, 2007, 10:51:43 AM »
The Legends game sent me thinking the other day about just who is my ultimate Alty hero. The answer is obviously Ken McKenna, just a God, followed by a personal favourite Ricky Harris and therafter it's hard to split the rest up.

I don't really know wher Jackie Swindells comes into this as I never saw him play (met hime though, I was shaking nervously). For me he's kind of some father figure, a patron saint of Alty.

Pick your legend in the poll and put your 1-2-3 in the answer below. I'll put 9 legends down to start off with. If yours isn't there, don't vote just say so on your answer and I'll add anyone who's name crops up more than 3 times.

n.b. In due course we'll due a legends poll for the Tunnas and Furnivals of this world.

« on: October 10, 2007, 09:32:58 PM »
I was going to say more fun and games but it's not fun and there might not be any more games.

That said, a thursday night train journey for a few beers in 'leafy' cheshire to watch Utd v liverpool reserves whilst making a point sounds fun if anyone fancies it?

Sorry, know this is an old one and one we've covered many times before but I was just trying to remember something about it. A quick search on the web indicates that a replay would have been interesting as was Gloucesters visit in the next round! Sheesh  :o

p.s. Where Gloucester are concerned I daresay the lady doth protest too much, altho the Cheltenham bit sounds familiar  ::)
