Altrincham FC First Team / The actual game today
« on: July 19, 2008, 10:56:43 PM »
was promising in the first half.

We clearly look like keeping possession a bit more. Thought Laney did well at centre half as did Kerr when he came on. Some nice approach play centred around Johnson until he started to fade in the second half. Doughty and Street good as well.

Still think we need a few more games to get up to speed.Denham and Meechan seemed a little slow today.

Altrincham FC First Team / Transfer rumours
« on: June 08, 2008, 08:39:27 AM »
After a few jars with Joe last night we realised that you can never quite tell who we are signing and one rumour in particular had us chuckling heartily. Anyway decided to have alook at some of the names we've been linked with through the years who obviously never ever came close to coming. See if we can spot any patterns.

May 2000 : Simon Parke of Guiseley was mentioned as a possible recruit;

The rumour-mill suggests that Jeremy Goss, the ex-Norwich City and Wales player, may be a candidate for the post of Mark Ward's assistant manager. Likewise, Dale Watkins of Kettering is being touted as a possible signing, though this seems unlikely given that he only signed for Kettering last season for £22,000 and before that was the top-scorer in Cheltenham's 1997/98 team and playing a prominent role in their promotion- winning side in 1998/99.

Whilst negotiations with Stockport's Kevin Francis and with Leigh RMI's Steve Jones have been confirmed, neither player has yet agreed to come to Moss Lane.  :o The Pink has confirmed (24/6/00) that Mark Ward is pursuing Leigh RMI's right-winger, Steve Jones who was the Player of the Year at Hilton Park last season. Ward hopes to pair Jones with Kevin Ellison but any move awaits the return from holiday of the Leigh Chairman. As reported below, Ward is also still pursuing Lancaster's Jamie Udall, Mark Ward is reported to be in negotiation with Stockport County's tall centre-forward, Kevin Francis. The six foot seven striker is 32 years old and has been released from Edgeley Park after returning to Stockport earlier this year. Ward got to know Francis when both were at Birmingham City.

Possibly joining Altrincham are Wrexham's Dean Spink and Leigh RMI's reserve goalkeeper, Mark O'Connor. Spink, aged 33, is a six-footer whose career up to1998 was as a centre-forward, notably at Shrewsbury Town, where he scored 52 goals in 273 appearances

A possible arrival at Moss Lane is Leigh's Brian Butler, who does not want to go into the Conference because of employment commitments. Also, Mark Ward is reported to be interested in the situation at Southport, where Adie Mike (ex-Manchester City) and Lee Trundle, ::) formerly at Stalybridge, maybe available for transfer. Rumour has it that Richard Landon has been bought by Southport, whilst the Sandgrounders' Adie Mike and Lee Trundle are believed to be travelling in the opposite direction. Trundle, a 23-year old Merseysider, played for Liverpool, Chorley and Stalybridge Celtic before moving for £16,000 to Southport in late 1998.

A few interesting names there. We may have bounced straight back up with big Kev Francis as a target man and Steve Jones and Lee Trundle playing off him!!

Again, in John laidlar's absence for those interested.

The youth team beat Nantwich Town tonight at Wyhtenshawe Town. They won 2-0 thank to 2 goals in as many minutes from Sam Madeley at the start of the second half.

Altrincham FC First Team / Youth team result
« on: May 04, 2008, 06:40:08 PM »
John Laidlar seem sto be taking a rest, so as this might not get put up on the main site I'll put it here for anyone who is interested.

The youth team won 4-1 away at Salford City today. Goals from Charlie Weir, Sam Madeley (2) and Declan Wakefield.

The lads are now 2 points clear of Ashton Athletic (who won today unfortunately). We have 2 games left, Nantwich at home on Thursday and Morecambe away next Sunday. Ashton have 3 games left (3pts for a win). Our goal difference is a lot better.

Altrincham FC First Team / Favourite ever Alty XI
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:15:30 AM »
Favourite being the main word here (can't you tell I'm off for Easter by the number of threads), not necessarily the best just your favourite. You have to restrct it to XI though and roughly in their positions, just XI no subs (unless there role was spevifically as subs like my first ever hero Graham Bennett). Actually bollocks to that I've just tried to do mine and I've got about 40 favourite players, try and out them in an XI if you can but don't worry about it.  :D

Again Jackie Swindells is completely exempt from any of this nonsense.

In fact i'm just naming a squad of 23

GK Stu Coburn, Collo.

DEF  Densmore Gardner Rowlo, Baker, Paul France, Ray Sidderley, Tommy Miller
Scotty, Asa, MadDog, Talbs, Andy Reid (ANDEEEE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDD ID THE GUV'NOR), Chrissy.

MID Gary Anderson, Ronnie Ellis, Dawsy, Carmo, Bomber Val, Eddie, Pottsy, Paul Showler, Dave Cockram, Shazza

ATTACK   BENNNO, Kenny Mac, Neill Hardy, Col Little, Marcus, John Brady, Emptyhead, Andy Green.

Sincere apologies to anyone not on here, twas a bad idea I love you all.

Altrincham FC First Team / Your All Time Alty XI
« on: March 26, 2008, 02:12:48 PM »
Ok, rule one is that Jackie Swindells is exempt from this. He'd clearly be in any Alty team ever and we won't reduce the great man to even being discussed about inclusion in these.

Rule two is that it's the best side, (Ricky Harris is my favourite all time Alty player and would be in a favourite XIbut that's another thread)

Rule three: You have to have seen the players play (even if only on video)

Right

GK Wealands (pips Coburn on account of playing in the 2 best Alty sides I have seen)
RB Gardner
LB Davidson
CB Ellender
CB Cuddy
RW Howard
CM Heathcote
CM Daws
LW Showler
CF McKenna
CF Little.
