Altrincham FC First Team / Help required for Saturday re New Years Day Draw
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:22:28 PM »
Hi All,

As you may or may not be aware we have made a low key start to selling tickets for the TASC New YEars Day Draw. We started selling some at the Histon game. The tickets are £2 for a book of 5 or just 40p each. Prizes include

- A flat screen 22"TV/DVD player
- A weekend for Two at the Knighton Hotel courtesy of the Gazelle.
- A signed and framed Shane Warne  Item from the 2005 Ashes series (worth a fair bit!)
- Vouchers for 2 people to Chill Factor (Very busy, quite difficult to get these)
- An Angelesey Caravan Weekend.
- Dinner for 2 at the Cresta Court Hotel.
- A Round of Golf for 4 people at the De Vere Carden Park Hotel

+ other prizes.

I'm sure you'll agree, a decent set of prizes at a low cost.

TASC have set a target of selling 1000 books of tickets for this draw. Tickets are to be sold at forthcoming home fixtures. It is at the Cambridge game on Saturday that we need to break the back of selling the tickets in the bar and around the ground at half time, in place of a bucket collection (tickets also available form the club shop). We can then assess how many we have that need to be mailed out etc

TO DO THIS WE NEED HELP, WE NEED AT LEAST 6 VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST IN SELLING THE TICKETS ON SATURDAY.

I know, and I understand, that many of us just want to enjoy the matchday experience at Moss Lane without necessarily getting involved with such things but I would ask you, if you don't generally get involved and only do one thing all season, could you please make it this saturday!! It will be worth it if we can shift the majority of tickets.

Please either email me

garethhthomas@tiscali.co.uk

or ring the club on 0161 928 1045 and ask for my (Gareth Thomas) contact details. I will be sat in the Bar under the tv selling tickets on Saturday.

Please, like I said, try and get involved with this, it won't become a requirement that I'll pester you help sell stuff at every game but I know there's a hell of a lot of us on here who could do it just this once. I'm also prepared to buy you a pint in gratitutde after!  :)

Regards

Gareth Thoms (TASC)

a place tonight i'm afraid.

Salisbury look like ending their 7 match losing streak as they're 2-0 up at home to Crawley. Nice to see Steve Evans fat face in a pickle but a pity we are now 14th.

Oh and Histon haven't lost a game by more than a single goal this season. Tough game.

Have the admin got a twitchty finger tonight? I was just about to post this reply.

Our game on Sunday, whilst hard fought and not pretty, was in my view realtively comfortable.

Ok, we struggled for 20 minutes or so after conceding early but after a bit of opportunism from Colin we seemed to get on top and the 2nd goal had been coming.

2nd half, we were all fairly jovial about the game as we didn't look in danger, as opposed to most BSP games where I can be a nervous wrecj if they  get in our half. Certainly the Newcastle Blue Star manager was talking out of his crevice afterwards.

I know we did a good job but it all these shocks show that we had a reasonable draw, a goos stadium that suited us and opposition that although game did look at least 3 leagues below us.

Could have had a tough BSP draw too, York have lost a replay 0-1 at Mansfield tonight too.

1. Who is our all time leading goal scorer in the non league top flight. i.e. goals from the 1st season of the Alliance Premier League 1979-80 through to today (league goals only)?

2. Who are the top 10?

I'll put a poll up later but just for now some brief suggestions for the most magical Alty moment you personally remember. It's hard with so many memories and I'm sure more will come intime that you can add on here but what has been your most spine/tingling magical Alty moment.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the most famous. for example, despite having seeen us beat Birmingham and win at Wembley amongst others the best I have ever felt at an Alty  game was when Ken McKenna scored a winner against Kettering in January 1991, an epic game having thrown away a 2 goal lead as we had a week or so earlier v Colchester United (that reminds me). When Kenny rounded the keeper to make it 3-2 it was special, I can never remember the ground feeling quite like that, it had been at the Leek game that I realised we had something special going on but that was THE moment.

Altrincham FC First Team / The old old days

Seperate thread as I wasn't at Gravend in 1980 (at least I think I wasn't, I'd only have been 16 months old, I'll ask my dad if he took me, unlikely  :'( )

Anyway the point I wanted to make is that having sterted supporting Alty around 1984 and having memories of the 85/86 season I count myself extremely lucky. For me the 1990/91 was the best but I was always really jealous of those who were around to see our truly great teams of the late 70s early 80s.

However, jduging from the Gravesend thread and other conversations/threads it appears that nearly every match in this days involved neanderthal violence whether you wanted it or not much in common with the genral perception/memories of the time.

Was it really like that or is there a bit of exagerration going on here, cos for me gnerally over the past 20 years these incidents have been few and far between? Frickley away in 84 was frightening but not frightening in a way as we weren't the targets of thier anger and Port Vale in 1992 and Halifax in 1994 have been the only occasions when getting a 'slap' was completey unavoidable, (EDIT: just remembered that Colchester away in 1991 falls into that category today, terrible) everything else is in the isolated incidents/handbags bin.

1. Apparently the Chef's been jailed

http://www.nvfc.co.uk/board/index.php?topic=3372.0

2. Probably a bit more worrying on their part Lee Steele is out of action for potentially 3-4 months. He was out up until nearly xmas last year and boosted them immensely when he came back. That could be a real blow.

Edit: A real blow for them that is, rather than us. I'm not arsed.

Altrincham FC First Team / Slighty off topic (from VIcs forum)
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:21:06 PM »
The green weirdoes have got a thread with this picture up. I don't know who it is, but I think it's Telford Utd from the 80's because

a) it looks like the old bucks head, even though they used to take their team photos in front of that old good stand

b) they are sponsored by Maxell, which is familiar.

Anyway, if it is

i) Is that Harry Wiggins back row top left next to the trainer?

ii) Is Phil Wilson back row secnd from the right?

iii) Ken McKenna should be on there but I don't see him.

Recognise any others?

Altrincham FC First Team / Tonight / Today's Alty Trivia Quiz Question
« on: August 15, 2008, 12:08:29 AM »
Just putting into context the burden Colin has shouldered so well.

Since relegation in 1999-2000, in league games only six Alty players have managed to get double figures for LEAGUE goals in a season/

Who are they? Obviously, Colin is one.

Secondly, one of the great things about Alty these days is seeing the young lads and lasses who really enjoy coming to Alty and enjoying the buzz. To you, imagine your greatest Moss Lane buzz and relive it about 30 times, for the rest of us there is the 1990-1991 season!  8)

For those who were there, we scored how many goals that season (all games) and we had six players who got into double figures that season (all games) - Who were they?

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty programmes for sale
« on: July 25, 2008, 03:56:58 PM »
Attention Cult, Flynny and other stalwarts out there.

I have circa 300 Alty programmes in v good condition from 1989/90 onwards in need of a (quick) caring home. Split 50/50 home and away majority in the early 90s when away travel wasn't as common as it is now, no coach etc.

PM me with offers, preferably for buying the lot in one go. Or if you already have them perhaps advice on the best way of selling them.

These are in excellent condition and include a number of gems, cup games, testimonials, friendlies, away games with not many there and a number of fanzines from the early 90s. There are various other programmes available Man Utd, Arsenal etc as well for those that fancy it.

Many Thanks
