We're going to need a top performance and nothing less today. Good luck to Graham and the lads!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Boosting Attendances
« on: December 20, 2008, 12:49:57 PM »
A number of schemes aimed at boosting attendances have been suggested and some tried out, often with a fair response (eg. the £5 entry for Utd and City season ticket holders). However, a significant long term improvement in attendances can only be achieved over a period of time, and probably not without some or all of the following happening:

Winning games regularly.
Playing attractive football.
Good runs in the FA Cup leading to big matches and some wins against league sides.
Reaching the latter stages of the FA Trophy on a more regular basis.
Competing at the top end of the league.

Look at the club from the point of view of a floating fan - they want to spend their £20 and know they are likely to be entertained and have a good afternoon out. People are unfortunately quite fickle and are far more likely to come to games if silverware/FA Cup noteriety is at stake. The potential exists at Altrincham but as we are a club which is making steady progress it is likely to be a few more years before we begin to achieve the above with any kind of regularity.

I don't think he's the kind of player we need to be honest. We need a gritty ball-winning midfielder in the ilk of Val Owen to break down play and support our strikers.

Alty 1-2 Burton in a good battling performance

or

Alty 0-5 Burton in a repeat of the second half v Southport

I had a lot of respect for what they have achieved since being in relegation trouble this time last year. Their turnaround has been nothing short of a miracle, so to read bullsh*t like that coming from them is especially disappointing.

Darren Sheridan's comments are totally deluded. You can't come as far as they have in such a short space of time and think you have an automatic right to beat anybody.

well what ever happened to them men with them two catering vehicles which went in between the pop side and golf rd they seem to do the Millwall game never seen them again.

I think you've answered your own question there princess.

Exactly! Did you wonder why the BBC weren't at subsequent games as well James?  :D

The only thing I would say is that we couldn't possibly know that Elam was dropped for no reason. It could have happened for any number of reasons that we. as fans, would have no idea about.

However, if Elam was dropped for no reason it would be highly bizarre given his performances in September/October.

« on: December 15, 2008, 12:49:47 PM »
It seems obvious to me that we were lacking leadership on the pitch. The likes of Eddie Hussin and Mick Carmody would never have allowed fellow players to lose focus, irrespective of poor refereeing or any other distractions.

What I would give to have a fully fit Eddie Hussin in our side this season! I think we'd be even higher up the league than we are.

I take my son to Fulham occasionally, they have people walking around selling hot and cold food and drinks from trolleys and backpacks using what appear to be typical domestic cold boxes.....they work both ways like flasks.

Their a Premiership team and were a Part time BSP team bit of a difference between the standard of players and standard of catering service we are able to put on.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here, James. SW was pointing out that it could be as simple as selling hot/cold food out of a cool box. Hardly a prohibitively expensive idea!

Furthermore, your comment about the respective standard of players is beyond irrelevant.

« on: December 13, 2008, 10:41:45 PM »
I think it's out of Graham's hands to a large extent. The loss of Densmore and Lawton, coupled with an apparent lack of desire througout the team are all things that he can't control. We all know how highly GH values the Trophy and I'm sure he let the players know how he felt after the game.

I just hope that it gives them the required kick up the arse and we also have the boost of knowing Densmore will be back for the Burton game - we're certainly going to need him!

I appreciate that I wasn't at the game and can't comment specifically on players and performances. However, it was clearly not just one individual that lost us the game by that margin today. You are bang out of order for coming on here and singling out Elam when there must have been others who under-performed.

It's just not constructive to blame individuals in this situation.
