Altrincham FC First Team / "A fantastically gifted player"
« on: August 31, 2019, 08:04:43 AM »
Lionel Messi ? Cristiano Ronaldo ? No - George Glendon.

Chester joint manager Anthony Johnson thus describes their latest "short term" signing.

Now granted Glendon captained Manchester City's Elite Development Squad, and was capped by England at U16 and U17 level, but at the age of 24 his career has taken him only to Fleetwood Town, and Carlisle United, who released him last season. Probably a decent enough player at this level, but "fantastically gifted" ?

Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley may just tempt me to reinstate the Knobsock of the Season Award....

Farsley's form has been quite decent so far - a scoreless draw at York,  and a 3-0 win at Gateshead are the sort of results we'd be proud of. They'll be looking to bounce back after losing out at home to form horses King's Lynn. So not an easy fixture by any means, A lot will depend on how strong a side we have available.

We can only hope that, after this little peccadillo is resolved, he gets taken on for "I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of Here", gets lost in the jungle, and is never seen again.

If he gets sent to Altcourse, which is the most likely scenario, my mate's son is a teacher there. Maybe he can knock a few rough "corners" off him !

Absolutely correct - and basically, if you weren't there to see just how bad it was, it's pointless to comment. Just turn up on Saturday, and let's give them the encouragement to try and raise their game. We really can do no more.

NL North🤔......
They will have to try and reform a new club
They've been expelled, not liquidated. They don't need to form a phoenix club just yet. If Bolton don't get their sh*t together in the 14 days they've been given this evening, that's a different matter entirely. They WILL be wound up, and that would be an absolute tragedy.

Whilst obviously it was the same for both sides, playing in the 85F degree heat after Saturday's travails looked to be too much for some of the players. For me, what was as worrying as the apparent disintegration of the game plan was a sense of a team feeling sorry for themselves. Perhaps that's being unfair and I hope I'm wrong. Some of yesterday's game was as bad as anything we witnessed in the relegation year, but to start comparing the management to Neil Young is ludicrous.

Yep. Absolutely absurd.

I agree with all of the above, and I certainly have faith in the ability of our management team to turn things around. However some tough decisions need to be taken.

The most important of these is the future of Conor Branson. I haven't missed a game this term, and saw most of pre-season. He simply doesn't give us anything. He's not as good in the air as a guy his size should be, hasn't got sufficient pace, can't produce a telling pass, and is often the point at which moves break down. Harsh perhaps, but we need to cut our losses and get rid.

They might make 3 go down if Bolton go out of business and AFC Bolton  apply to come in the National League North.

It is three down anyway

Only two down this season - yet another reshuffle next summer.

Crap day, but too early to panic!

Agrees , hopefully wont be panicking after 10 games played when the table takes shape

The table is taking shape NOW. And we are at the wrong end of it. I have seen little so far to convince me that we haven't gone backwards since last season.

Boston were mediocre at best, yet were able to pick us off at will. I suppose all the "Thompson must go" brigade will already be sharpening their knives, but, while I thought he might have cut out the cross for the second goal, the problems really emanated from the players in front of him.

Both full backs had poor games, and we were too wide at the back, so that Jones and Mullarkey were left too exposed. That wasn't helped by midfield. Williams worked hard to little real effect, but Harrop and Branson were utterly woeful. Richman gave us more energy when he came on, but the game had gone once they got the third. That came after our only decent spell - about 10 minutes - and we were increasingly ragged after that.

It was great to see Moult come on, but I'm not sure he's quite ready to play his usual leading role, and one of their goals came as a result of him losing possession.

Hemmings doesn't look as good as last year, and when Walters came on to replace JJ (well below par) he couldn't produce anything really threatening.

Hulme had a thoroughly frustrating afternoon. Not much service in Hancock's absence, and frequently manhandled by their centre back without the referee taking any action.

Just a bad day at the office, or something more worrying ? Play like we played today in future games, and we'll be back in the Evostik this time next year - I doubt anyone who was there today could disagree.

                                Thompson
White.             Jones.            Mullarkey.           Hampson
Johnston.      Williams.         Branson.             Hemmings
                            Peers.           Hulme

Subs : If fit - Densmore, Hancock, Harrop, Richman.
Definitely Walters.
Add as necessary Gabidon, Elliott, two other youth players.

Altrincham FC First Team / Boston United : match thread
« on: August 25, 2019, 11:15:25 AM »
We're going to be well below strength. Drench and Hannigan definitely out, Hancock wasn't fit for yesterday, Harrop limped off, Richman was limping at the end. Densmore appeared to have a problem during the half time kick about, and I believe the much-missed Moult is still some way off returning. We could be down to the bare bones.

On the plus side, Boston have two suspended, and look to be out of sorts if yesterday's 3-0 drubbing at Gloucester City is any indication.

I'm on the coach, but I'm not making any predictions.

I expected mid-table consolidation last season, and a play-off challenge this season, not the other way round.

Would have been nice to consider Everyman as a screen opportunity for the premiere and get our name out there
Still worth approaching them I would have thought.

People are being very charitable. He wasn't good enough.

It's not that he isn't good enough - his past record leaves no doubt of that - but more that our style of play wasn't compatible with his. He wasn't the orthodox wide man that we wanted. Wherever he ends up, I wish him well, especially when his leaving quote shows dignity and honour.
