Frank Sinclair appointed "Head of Coaching Development" at Port Vale. There's always some club daft enough......

I SAID their keeper was dodgy !

Totally bossed the second half. Mullarkey and Lundstram were outstanding but my MOM was Simon Richman. Every club needs a play anywhere man.

First piece of business has to be trying to get Lundstram on a full season loan.

I saw nothing tonight to make my knees knock.

Of the 5 they scored, two were dodgy penalties (ref was really poor), one was an outrageous fluke, and one came when Gateshead over-committed and left a space the size of the Sahara Desert for their strikers to exploit. The third goal was quality, but that's just one.

Of the 3 they conceded, two were down to poor defending of set pieces, the other from a nailed-on penalty that came under minimal pressure. Their keeper looked really dodgy.

If we play like we did today, and don't get a weird referee, we should be fine.

An intriguing prospect. We certainly need to step up a gear from Sunday. I'd start Richman for Durrell on the simple basis that we absolutely have to consider the prospect of a penalty shootout, and Durrell would be essential to that.

Says he turned down a trial with a league club because he preferred the "security" of a contract at Telford.

One can well understand that he's had enough of trials....

Just watching "The Big Match Revisited" on ITV4. Between the two main games, they showed the winning goal from Tranmere v Chester, an own goal where Tranmere's centre half lobs the ball back to keeper Dick Johnson. Unfortunately he's some way off his line......

Win this, and we could push on and go all the way. Let's get ourselves there in force and get behind the lads.

Tadcaster Albion have been badly hit by flooding, and have mounted an appeal to raise £40K so that they can survive. They are in real danger of folding unfortunately.

Forecast isn't too bad - minimal chance of rain, temperatures above freezing, but windy (which should help to dry the pitch in the wake of Storm Ciara). I trust that the lessons of our last visit will have been learned, and we don't trek all the way up there on another wild goose chase (fortunately I missed that debacle, but I'm on the coach tomorrow).

We'll need to be better than we were on Saturday. They're unbeaten in four, and held Brackley to a draw on Saturday. Interestingly, the last team to win there were Kettering.

A draw wouldn't be a disaster, but a win would give us a massive boost. Let's do this !

Probably the most improved team in the league over the last three months. Unbeaten at home since 12th October (though they've only played four home games in that period).

Overall, their 12 league games since that defeat have yielded 5 wins and 5 draws. Their only two league defeats in this period have been by the odd goal away at both Boston and York. That's very decent form.

I'd like to think we could win, but my head says a draw will be a decent achievement.

....but we all used to laugh when Dean Saunders would claim that Wrexham had put in thirty plus in nearly every game.

On Saturday, against Palace, the stats show that City put in a staggering FIFTY EIGHT ! Maybe Deano was telling the truth (I'm watching a re-run  of "Would I Lie to You" as I type this....)

Altrincham FC First Team / Referee accountability
« on: January 15, 2020, 11:20:29 AM »
Having considered all the circumstances of last night's postponement, especially B.4D's comments, I am forced to conclude that the referee, Adam Herczeg from (I think) Gateshead, simply didn't fancy it.

It reminds me of the famous postponement of our Trophy game at Buxton 40 years ago, when it was alleged that the referee called it off because he didn't think he'd get back home to Lincoln if it snowed again.

A lot of people were severely inconvenienced and left out of pocket by the late decision to call the game off. Spennymoor will have to pay the cost of needlessly turning on the floodlights for example. Players will have, in many cases, lost time at work.

Spennymoor's chairman's offer to fund our coach was a fine gesture, but I note his phrase "we respect the referee's decision". B.4D reckons that the ref cited "Health & Safety", and I do wonder what guidelines he may have been following.

Whilst we don't want to go back to the times illustrated by the iconic photograph of Tom Finney having an in-play cold shower, the line must surely be drawn  somewhere reasonable.

Do referees have to submit a report to the league when they postpone, and if so, how detailed is it ? Do clubs have any grounds to raise an official complaint if they feel that the decision to call off a game was unreasonable ?

Mr.Herczog would have got home in time to watch Spurs v Boro last night. Our travelling contingent didn't even have that consolation.
