Altrincham FC First Team / Another bloody postponement
« on: September 18, 2017, 10:42:23 PM »
I wouldn't have minded getting the game at Stafford on Saturday week postponed if it was US that were playing in the FA Cup.

As it is, we have a blank Saturday. We're already 3 games in hand on some clubs. It really is absolute bollocks.

Unlike us, they're in the hat tomorrow after beating North Ferriby 1-0 this afternoon. Excellent result, and good luck to them.

Altrincham FC First Team / Meanwhile, in a boardroom not so far away....
« on: September 10, 2017, 08:06:08 PM »
From the Observer :

Chester CEO Mark Maguire on fan pressure to sack manager Jon McCarthy, 30th August

"In professional football we can be too reactive about things. We are not blindly carrying on in a giddy fashion backing the manager because we think he's great, which we do....we're not blindly carrying on because he has a contract. We are a strong board with a strong group of people. It is on the basis of that, that we are carrying on the way that we are. We have a belief that there is something about to click."

Seven days later they sack him.

.....for Charnock Richard. I'll hold my hand up....I know nothing about them but if he's getting a regular gig I must assume their current keeper is either blind in one eye, or has a prosthetic limb.

....for Barwell, just in time to play against us next week.

Those of us who saw his wonder strike when we won 4-0 there in the FA Cup will be fervently hoping that he doesn't get the chance to repeat it !

Altrincham FC First Team / Whitby Town match thread
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:32:46 AM »
Whilst we haven't set the world on fire so far (setting light to a waste bin has looked beyond us at times), a win tomorrow could put us straight up to mid table. We are only six points adrift, and the top 11 clubs are separated by only two points.

Whitby had a decent win over Stalybridge (but then a few will do that - Steve Burr is the new Jim Harvey imho), but have lost their other two. We CAN win this, and if we follow up by beating bottom club Coalville on Saturday we'll be up and running. It's essential to boost the players' confidence.

Of course, this is Alty and we're traditionally Calpol for such strugglers, but the players and management know we fans won't accept what has been served up so far.

Let's get behind them to the highest possible level.....if we fail this week, we're definitely in trouble.

Already demoted to warming the bench at Shaw Lane. Very sad.

Altrincham FC First Team / FA Cup Draw
« on: August 20, 2017, 09:28:09 AM »
I assume it's tomorrow ? There are plenty of banana skins in our section - an away trip to Hyde or Moseley in our present state wouldn't encourage me one iota. And I genuinely fear Leek Town.

Beaten at home by Mickleover Sports tonight.....and still above us in the league. We need to pull our tripes out tomorrow night.

Altrincham FC First Team / For the masochists
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:58:34 PM »
League site has highlights of Sutton Coldfield v Shaw Lane. Attendance 187. And no, Reevesy didn't score.

But James Walshaw notched two for Farsley....and Warrington's late winner was scored by Joe Mwasile.

Anyone still got doubts about the depth of the sh*t we're in ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Carabao Cup

Ten integros equal one carabao ?

Just a little puzzled while watching Channel 5's highlights to see an advert at Accrington for Go Goodwin's coaches.

Altrincham FC First Team / Cheshire Senior Cup
« on: August 08, 2017, 11:25:08 AM »
We start at home to Chester on November 4th.

Cheadle Town v Stockport County is potentially interesting in an uninspiring draw (in keeping with the competition generally I suppose).

Sandbach United fans will probably enjoy their trip to Prenton Park more than Macclesfield's will relish visiting 1874.

One of the opponents I first remember seeing at Moss Lane in the Cheshire League in the late 1950's.

Like us, founder members of both the NPL and the APL (subsequently the Conference). They were in their pomp before us in the early 1970's when they were arguably the best non-league side in the country. They had many ex Port Vale players in their squad. Their keeper Aleksic went to Spurs. Like us they won 2 of their 3 Wembley visits. Like us they failed to get past the "old pals act" into the Football League.

AND like us they've sunk to the lowest level in their history.....and they've stayed there.

We need to make that we don't share that last similarity.

Altrincham FC First Team / Not quite humble pie
« on: July 24, 2017, 10:11:57 PM »
Whilst I still feel that things happened off the pitch last season which were unprofessional and unethical, I have seen enough in the away friendlies to convince me that I simply must return to Moss Lane as of tomorrow night.

The style of football that PP has set up looks exciting....and, after all, what happens ON THE FIELD is the most important factor. I feel I would be deprived of some very worthwhile experiences if I stayed away.

So......I've neither forgiven nor forgotten. But I have moved on.
