Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Gateshead Match Thread
« on: April 13, 2023, 06:07:27 PM »
If we're going to persist with Hugill, I would be tempted to play him almost as a winger - his speed is the main thing he brings to the table, and it isn't being utilised. After seeing that atrocious miss on Monday (I hate to say it, but Marcus would have put it away) I've reluctantly concluded that he's not the top class striker we thought we were getting.

Gateshead Marcus, yes. Altrincham Marcus, no.

It seems Rochdale have recalled Tyrese Sinclair.

For me it highlights the potential problems caused by over reliance on loan players

Not a problem for me at all - imagine we'd have signed Danny Cashman permanently?

Hopefully Ty will be back soon.

Or signed proper wingers in the Summer (or January when we sold our only owned winger)....

Looking likely we'll lose  Torquay or Yeovil or Aldershot, removing 2 of biggest journeys.

Would like Scarborough , Curzon up, as I think Kings Lynn will win the league.

I'm afraid I don't share in the optimism that many of our better-performing loanees are likely to be here next season. First and foremost Maxi Oyedele is destined for far bigger next season than a return to Altrincham, but Tyrese Sinclair is contracted at Rochdale through next season and would command a big fee and wages. I can see him landing himself a move to League 2 club, it's the Elliot Newby scenario all over again.

Chris Conn-Clarke is one that there is going to be a lot of expectancies around but he signed a new deal shortly before his Waterford loan and it would be a big shock if we managed to prize him away, in my opinion. Then you've got the likes of Miles Welch-Hayes and Kyle Ferguson who certainly feel a little more achievable but both would have to take a significant pay cut to come and play here permanently.

I know it's a pessimistic post towards the end of a season that has given us real cause for optimism but I'm still painfully aware of where we are budget-wise and the (lack of) pull that our club has to attract these marquee players on a permanent basis.

600k in Seeders, best part of 100k in player sales, above average 2k crowd. We should be targeting being a top half club next season (no lower than 14, maybe troubling POs for a few weeks).

Suits me - I'd not be going to Aldersh*t and if it's not 3pm they can stream it 😊

Selfish streaming

It's a peculiarity that those who stay at home and stream the game do actually generate some (rather miniscule) revenue for Altrincham FC, whereas those who pay to attend the match contribute entirely to the coffers of Aldershot FC.

To be joyous that the lads that have stuck by us (let's be honest Toby wouldn't habe been the only approached player in Jan) will run out to 20 instead of 75-100 is a shame, all so you can donate about 80p to the club.

I appear to need to point out to you that I wasn't endorsing not attending matches but was merely highlighting this financial anomaly.

I shall be at Boundary Park this afternoon rather than watching events on a screen (but if people opt to do the latter, then that's their prerogative and they shouldn't have to be shamed by you).

Perhaps you should read my post above rather than being a cantankerous old man.

This isn't about Phils choice of streaming its about his indifference to what a 5pm game means to fans. I'll be getting back on Sunday because of this 530 farce.

Perhaps carrying this observation to it's ultimate conclusion all those streaming the game should at least make the effort to get down to the ground at the time the supporters coach is leaving and jeer them aboard letting them know how they don't have any loyalty to the club! 😂😂😂😂

I'm not arsed about people watching streaming, but to be happy you can watch it and the expense of away fans being able to go is crassm

Dorking are only a premier club due to a flare.

They beat Ebbsfleet in POs thanks to Ebbsfleet fans lobbing a flare on which they thought was the winner.

It gave Dorking time to re group, go again, equaliser and go up

It'd be good to try and make our goal difference column a positive one. A big ask but its a target.

That's quite a challenging target 🎯
We would need to score two goals per game and keep six clean sheets.
Wouldn't a more reasonable target be a top half finish? (for the first time in donkeys years!)
Another good one would be to win as many games (or more) than we've lost.
Or perhaps set a new points total for the season.

All in all, plenty to play for! 😉
Come on you Robins 👍

I think A positive GD next year would be a good KPI for the season

Nothing will change Saturday. But it certainly felt better than at 5pm.

A professional performance, 2 quality goals by Jones and Bennet (which silences a few Alty heckles for his previous misses).

Que Sara Sara, Whatever has gone, has gone, we're going to Congelton... 🎵
