Not too many seasons later, Ipswich went on to win the football league, arguably the most remarkable football league win.
Yes, Ipswich have a remarkable history, Up to 1935, they were in the Southern Amateur League, as distinct from the Southern League, playing league matches against teams including Civil Service, Barclays Bank and Lloyds Bank!

The largest ever non-League crowd before Saturday was 16254 for Dulwich Hamlet v Nunhead in the Isthmian League in 1931.  Also until Saturday the  Midland League game between Peterborough United and Boston United in 1956 saw an attendance of 13341 and their game against Kings Lynn that same season had over 12000

You have omitted the Southern League, Bill, which had the biggest league  crowd between two non-League teams as we know them now when Ipswich Town played Colchester United in front of 23,449 on 5 February 1938. There were bigger attendances before the First World War at the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers, but the Football League only had two divisions then, so it's not a fair comparison.
Also,I can't remember my source but I am sure I read something once about Port Vale reserves getting a bigger crowd in 1954 for  a Cheshire County League match when FA Cup semi-final tickets were on sale.  I am reluctant to count a reserve team too, but Notts County still have a way to go to beat Ipswich.

I wasn't there, but from what I have heard, the water bottle was taken in the first half,  TT got a replacement, and then the original one was returned  in the second with its new contents. The culprit readily admitted what he had done, but there's still a question mark about the stewarding if a player's belongings can be taken.
Josh Amis got sent off too today.

Yes, he was one of the major players in our most successful ever team, performing several great saves late in games if I recall correctly.
RIP.

I didn't really notice Isaac Marriott today, although it was expecting a lot for a player, good though he is, to be plunged straight into the starting line-up, rather than to get a run off the bench and work up. I am with Alty not Faulty that he will  get up to speed with time.

I am assured that the players had all trained together, but it did feel as if the two loanees didn't know how their team mates played. That will come with time. I hope.

While Tuesday wasn't a great night for home supporters, it also wasn't great for some of the Wealdstone supporters.

Somebody I know is a friend of the Wealdstone chief steward and tells me that the supporters' coach  (credit for bringing a coach to a long distance midweek game, by the way) developed problems with its windscreen wipers so pulled into some services on the M6. It took hours to get somebody to come out and attend to the problem, but, eventually, someone did, and the coach finally reached Grosvenor Vale at 5.30 AM. Ouch!

Any loan that isn’t season long stops once the transfer window opens. Presumably in case the parent club gets a better offer or needs them back to cover them losing someone. You never know could be pending permanent deal in jan if it works well!

If it works out he's the sort of player we should be signing if we are to  to  progress .Some County fans seem to think he's unlucky not to get more game time with them .
Yes, my County supporting friend really rates him, and was hoping  this transfer would just be temporary. Given his age, and lack of appearances this season, I can easily see this becoming a permanent signing.

The Unsworth interview reminded me of Jim Harvey, or maybe John Pemberton after we beat Chesterfield.  It just felt like a manager who had joined a club who were big for the level at which they were playing, possibly expecting an easy ride, then just seemed shell-shocked, with nothing constructive to offer.

PP often - not always - finds some positives in  a defeat, but there was nothing in there.

Great well-balanced sensible post, Leeds Leeds Alty.

just looked at this investment scheme, its very complicated just to sign up,you have to correctlly answer 7 questions to do with general investing and i got 4 out of the 7 correct and was told i had failed,so i cannot invest in the clubWill spend some of my money on a book about    The Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway: v. 34 (Oakwood Library of Railway History)
Dixon, Frank
I am not a railway historian, but have got that book, which was published years ago (assuming I have not got confused with another book). It's very good for local history, with one or two snippets which I won't  spoil.

Believe it or not, there is a minority group here in England, inevitably including football followers, who endeavour to pay by cash only as far as possible as a point of principle, and in fact possible reasons for this are not hard to find. Whilst there may be people who consider it acceptable to be prejudiced against this particular minority group (though I would hope and expect that such bigotry would not be aired on here), the point is that the decision for whatever reasons not to accept cash payments from some or all spectators by certain football clubs (and notably, of course, Wrexham) tends towards the exclusion of such football supporters, and I would tentatively suggest that reasonable efforts should be made by clubs (as has happened at Alty) to accommodate people from this group, the same as with other minority groups. I repeat, Alty for all. Alienate groups of people and they (and for that matter other people who care about the treatment of minorities) may leave for good.

Can you expand on those reasons, Hugh? I can appreciate that this may discriminate against people who don't have credit or access to modern technology, but it also offers a protection against football clubs, and other retailers, from being robbed of a pile of cash., with their employees potentially being subject to violence, and enables clubs to plan for the level of attendance.

I am not sure why it's "notably" Wrexham, incidentally. as I am sure Altrincham urged everyone to get advance tickets where possible a few days ago.   "Where possible" is  an important proviso, there, admittedly.

I don't entirely disagree on libertarian grounds, but it is a balance where people who want to enjoy their freedom to pay by cash are adding an element of risk  of theft (or catching covid?:))to a worker who has no choice, just as smokers do when they smoke in a worker's presence. As I say, it's a balance. If you want to make football available for all, I suggest cheaper tickets would be more helpful, but that's a different story.

Likewise, it was a very painful process, even though I already had an account from last season.

I am heading there expecting nothing apart from full effort and not to be thrashed; any sort of positive result will be a bonus.

I remember it. Also bizarrely playing Caernarfon in the Cheshire cup. Unfortunately missed both matches. At least I saw the Greenock friendly!

I presume TNS are still playing in Shropshire.

They are - based at Park Hall, just north of Oswestry, accurately described as the most Welsh town in England.

There were no teams from the Republic of Ireland either this year. I heard that the National League teams just weren't interested.

I think the oddest fact is that Wrexham qualified to represent England one season while TNS (who played Dundee this season) qualified to represent Wales!

PS I didn't  go, but we did travel to Belfast to play Cliftonville in a friendly once.

Yes, you could see how it was two teams near the bottom, but in the second half we completely dominated, and the final score was only kept close by the efforts of Luca Ashby-Hammond in goal, who was easily the man of the match Having a one man advantage doesn't necessarily work to  a team's advantage either - see the Maidstone game at the start of this season.

I had hoped we would sign more experienced players than the young loanees from Stoke; Byron Harrison wasn't exactly what I had in mind, but he did nothing wrong when he came on, as I recall, and didn't panic or lose the ball. Also, as others have said, Jake Cooper had a very good game, while Dinanga was desperately unlucky not to score.

There's a long way to go yet, of course, but, without getting carried away, this does give me some grounds for optimism, which has been short recently.
