Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Abbey Hey Match Thread
« on: September 02, 2017, 06:21:11 PM »
Official crowd was 371 as per NWCL website. I thought it might have been a few more but won't argue.

The earlier post about the defending was correct. I think Abbey had 2 shots in the first half, and none in the second before the penalty, but they had a great chance to actuallly win the game afterwards.

All credit to Abbey Hey for keeping on plugging away, but, stating the obvious, we really, really should not have let slip a 3 goal lead.

I am confident we won't make the same mistake on Tuesday.

January 2015.
Chester 4-1, Eastleigh 2-0, Torquay 2-1, Aldershot 1-0.
Seems a longt ime ago doesn't it?
A lifetime away.

It does, but results like this, considering the number the number of injuries accrued before and during the game, even if Witton's defence wasn''t as rock solid as I had feared, do give hope that we might see results like those once more - just possibly.

No problem with it being raised and giving us the chance to condemn the remark as, at the game, lots of us did, after a second or two of shock and thinking did I actually hear that,  at least there was in my case.

The person escorted from the ground was not wearing a club shirt, for what it's worth.

I don't go in the CSH any more....it's becoming a potentially dangerous environment.

More important matters. We played well for about 22 minutes at the start, and about 15 minutes at the end. 37 out of 90+ isn't really good enough and we could have lost to a spirited but limited side.

Johnston simply HAS to start. He terrorised them when he came on.

I've been quite scathing about Jordan Hulme. Today he continued with the improvement he showed against Whitby. Never stopped grafting and should have got MOM. Actually 4 or 5 others deserved it more than Taylor.

We play a top 3 club away on Monday. We MUST come back with AT LEAST a point.

Agree with most of that. Coalville played their part in an enjoyable game (on the field of play, at least) and were perhaps a bit unlucky to lose by a two goal margin. We seemed to have a poor spell when John Disney was on the pitch, but I am sure that is just an unfortunate coincidence.

I have been critical about Jordan Hulme too, but he was excellent today, put in lots of hard work,  and continued to build on is recent improvement

I think there's a few points here for me:

1. Well behaved PL away fans drinking at our bar prior to an away at United could potentially be a good earner on an ongoing basis so it's fair to look at this as a moneymaker for the club.
2. Regardless of stewarding/security it's absolutely pathetic for some 'lads' of a PL side to come to our bar and give it the big one and try to wind people up. At least we know to say no if Leicester ask again.
3. Did they pay to get in/bring their own drink? Let's see if the club can clarify before everyone jumps to conclusions.
4. If this is to happen again partition the bar and give them dedicated stewards and security. I watch the odd City away game and PL away lads of a certain young age can be a different breed. Casual drug use, often looking for a fight, aggressive behaviour-far more prevalent than you'd see at our level and the security operation should reflect that.
5. Work in progress clearly but we have won 2 league games in a row for the first time in months. Let's not forget that.

Some good points, although I think point 4, as well as today's events, pretty much cancels out point 1.

We could really do with an official statement from the club on  point 3, as you say, and to know, what, if anything, they were expecting.  I thought there could be a handful of people leaving at 4:30 or so to attend the second game, but was shocked by the numbers and by an official announcement that their coach was ready to go.

I didn't go in the bar today (I didn't for the Stafford game either, but did for Whitby so I must have some sort of sixth sense!). From what I heard in the second half, it did sound like the damage was accidental, but some of the chanting from Leicestershire before that was pretty aggressive and confrontational.

They look to be in the same mould as Forest Green Rovers

The green Dale Vince would never illegally dump 6000 tons of waste as Tamplin did.

Among other monuments to his ego, Glenn Tamplin has a mural on the outside of the ground featuring, er, himself. I hope this doesn"t give any other chairmen ideas. Oh, and he picks the team too.

This match does give us the ideal chance to build on a victory with another one, as we completely failed to do in any league games last season (we did have three successive wins at one point, but two of them were home cup ties against teams from a lower division, before anyone says).  Therefore, I hope and trust we will beat the club who are currently joint bottom and were the worst supported team in the division.

Altrincham 3 (Hancock,  Poole,  Peers) Coalville Town 1 (Taylor) att. 624.

Some rather rushed match highlights are now up.
At the start, you can just hear Matlock running out to the "March of the Gladiators". More appropriate for us this season...

Goal and assist again yesterday. Omotola started, too.

... Which, considering he is now Cup-tied, implies there's no immediate prospect of Omotola coming back to try to resolve the striker problem.

I think Phil has been given a huge task at rebuilding the fortunes of this club but ultimately the rebuilding process starts much higher. Not his fault.

That is a good point. He will be set up as the fall guy, in the way that Neil Young was (but only after he went), but there is clearly something rotten in the club.

I am glad you are getting better. That was a scary story to read, I must say.

Although I did go and see the doctor myself when I caught a bad case of pneumonia seven years ago, I probably could and should have gone sooner, and I sometimes think that these campaigns to try and stop people from wasting doctors' and casualty departments' time end up deterring people, especially men, who really should go to see them.

I do have some sympathy for Parkinson when it comes to all these interviews. He's a young manager just getting started, who isn't used to either managing a side that has supporters who's primary allegiance doesn't lie elsewhere, or managing under such pressure for promotion. Having a microphone shoved in your face post-match and having to answer questions while the emotions are still raw, and particularly when results haven't been good, is incredibly difficult. Top sports stars/managers go through hours of media training to make sure they don't say anything that makes them look stupid straight after a game. Non-league managers don't have that luxury. So it's no surprise if they then goes on to say something ill thought through, or what they say comes across in a way that causes they later embarrassment.

Parkinson either needs some help/training with the media side if we still want him doing these interviews after every Saturday and Tuesday match, or we need to protect him from himself a bit by reducing the amount he does while he is still finding his feet.

Very well said. While Phil Parkinson has managed at a couple of clubs before, at both Alsager and Nantwich, he came in when the clubs were struggling to avoid relegation so expectations and any success was a bonus. He immediately got some positive results so there was no problem and no critical fans.

In contrast, we, as if we didn't know, have been relegated so expectations are high, and emotions still raw, in a lower league.

I think there needs to be a bit of leeway and understanding on both sides, which I am confident there will be.

The positive is that it was a good battling performance to get a deserved point with 10 men, and we do have a point on the board, even if we are behind where we were last season.

Negatives are that Hannigan, for all his talents, once again goes missing, and games seem to be falling into a pattern. We dominate play, then somehow go behind, and have nobody to put the ball in the net. Amis' sickness is very unfortunate, and it's certainly worth persevering with Peers, who is a young player, but Hulme has frankly been disappointing. Omotola must be worth a go, if he is fit, but we may have to consider the loan market, if finances permit, until injured and ill strikers return.

I can remember us having a good team when we had grass banks, and beating Stafford Rangers, too.
I appreciate your point, though.

Strange indeed. While we dominated possession in the first, we never had any real end product, and there is little point in pretending otherwise.

There is also a worry of a rift developing between players and supporters if the latter are not thanked for some outstanding support in the first half, but get blamed for showing their unhappiness at the end.
