Altrincham FC First Team / Re: FA Cup Draw
« on: October 02, 2023, 11:34:39 PM »
What's the longest journey we could make with an away draw? That's who we'll draw. Just getting a negative vibe about it somehow.
Nothing to do with us, but Chelmsford City won their replay tonight, which means Whitby have to go down there... in a regionalised round.

Think Northwich Villa were formed by Jim Rushe when Woodley FC changed their name...they played at Valley Road, Flixton

1874 were set up in protest to Rushe and the shenanigans going on. A friend of mine at work (Ian Street) was their first Manager

Northwich Villa, under various names,  played all over the place. As you say they were founded by Jim Rushe as Woodley as a breakaway from Woodley Sports in 2006. I think they played at Manor Farm in Timperley iduring that time. When Rushe took over Northwich Victoria, they became Northwich Viilla and groundshared with them in Northwich, progressing into the North West Counties League, even though that league didn't  accept reserve teams which is what they effectively were.

When Vics moved to Flixton, they followed suit, becoming Northwich Flixton Villa (somebody I know once went there, and saw them putting the limited amount of gate money in a brown paper envelope marked for Jim Rushe!). They parted company in 2015 when they moved to the Manchester Regional Arena, next door to the Eithad and became Northwich Manchester VIlla. I actually saw a game there that season when our match was off, and they were expecting to be taken over and become Manchester Diamonds, but they folded  at the end of that season, and I doubt they are really missed by anybody.

The excellent Football Club History Database website reminded me of some of the dates when writing this.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Injuries
« on: September 13, 2023, 09:57:49 PM »
I did get a slightly barbed response from my County supporting friend when I mentioned that we had signed Ollie Crankshaw. "He used to be a good player until he was injured and was never the same afterwards," but he wished both "Alti" (whoever they are) and the player good luck and thought he would fit our style of play.

I have to say it did cross my mind that we could have signed a crock when I read this Sale Holmfield.

Additionally, during the short period of time that he has had on the field he has not looked match fit or really threatened to make any impact IMHO.  He has looked frail to me (as if he could do with a good square meal) and I am not surprised about what has happened, just upset that the same old, same old injury problems that annually beset us are looming large again.

I am trying to keep up a positive vibe so perhaps now is not the time to remark that CCC appears to be out of sorts.  Does anyone agree?

I have not had the heart to mention the time out due to  Ollie's injury today, but I saw my friend yesterday who asked how the two new signings were doing. I replied that Ethan Rpss was great and had saved two penalties, but Ollie Crankshaw was injured. He just nodded, knowingly.

I didn't go to Barnet, but I couldn't fault Ollie Crankshaw for effort the previous week, and can't think of anyone who has worked so hard to make a good impression on his debut.

I have thought the same about CCC, but in your spirit of positivity, remember that he  was slow to get going last season, and improved dramatically as the season went on.

See we play 1874 at home

Wonder if we'll switch it to their ground? We did it for several rounds last year. (plus it's likely to be much nearer to Saughall!) Do they play at Winsford or Barnton?
They play at Barnton now. When the draw was made, it was said it might get switched to Barnton, but I haven't  heard anything more.
Talking of Mid-Cheshire groundsharers, Northwich Vics have been told they have to leave Witton at the end of the season, by the way.

Keep 20th April free so you can be at Moss Lane where Alty will be parading the NL Trophy.
I'd just love to highlight this post on April 20th when we finish top. 😁

I will look forward to that too, along with the permanent signing of Ethan Ross, and at least  it will be at Moss Lane and not somewhere out by the M56. :)

Well, Mick was right about Dobra some posts earlier.

As for ourselves, we deserved the win after quite  a spectacular second half performance. Everybody played well, but Angus, Amulazor and Roscoe were superb.  Chesterfield weren't poor or anything, they just lost to a better team on the day.

With an acknowledgement to the lack of depth in the squad,  I can't say we will win the league, but, right now, it feels like we just might do that.

I went to see Kirkham & Wesham a few years later when they played on a roped off pitch right by the station, but they won the West Lancashire League (same level as  our reserves play) every season.

For pubs near the ground, the Stanley Arms en route from the station in Wesham is probably your best bet, which is okay, if not particularly special
Alternatively, there are two micropubs in Kirkham, which means heading in the opposite direction from the ground from the station. Tje Kirkham Bier Haus has already welcomed away fans, while the Tap & Vent Brewhouse is normally closed on Mondays, but seems to be open on Bank Holidays. I don't know for sure if it's open on Monday, but both of these  look walkable, albeit a longer walk, to Mil Farm.

I can't actually picture the goal at Rotherham, I am embarrassed to say, but do remember that  match as one of our best victories. It's another one of the great players from our most successful period gone. RIP.

Terrible news, with, in so many ways, the measure of the man being his great bravery and accomplishments after his football career. RIP

If we can fix them and remain unbeaten then we're in for a decent season! 😉
That's the positive way to look at it, and there's no reason why not to. At least, having declined during the second half and allowing Boreham Wood to get their deserved point, we have maintained that unbeaten record.

Not for the first time, I have to regret us not taking full advantage of our period of dominance.

To give a  neutral view  as I didn't go myself, I have heard from somebody who had never seen us play before, went as a neutral, and thought we were excellent.

Special praise went to Ethan Ross for the save at the death, Linney and Conn-Clarke up front, as well as Baines and "Joey Jones"(I think he meant James) at the back.

In general we were "simple and effective" which he stressed he meant in a good way, with  the only criticism that we conceded possession and gave free kicks in dangerous positions late on.

                     Ross

Banks     Jones   Baines   Jones

Amaluzor Marriott  Osborne  CCC

              Linney     Angus

Angus looked sharp at the weekend so hopefully him and linney play up top together.
Kosylo to come off the bench and score the winner on his return (2-1 alty)

CCC is half the player out wide.

Linney up top and Angus to come and partner later in the game.....

Need to be having :-

Striker
No. 10
2 wide players to start the game.

Yes, that's it. Dior Angus played well when he came on on Sunday but, after so few pre-season minutes, I can't see him starting.

That may change in the future, but not just yet, until he has had a few runs out as a sub.

Also agree we should use CCC in his best position as a number 10.

I only hope that Dagenham's defenders are as charitable next Saturday!

Yoan Zouma has left Dagenham and Redbridge, so perhaps not, although that may be bad news for the feline population if he is angry at being released.

I am happy, anyway. We look so much more secure at the back, while Justin Amaluzor, who has previously shown the capacity to get in a good shot while having an otherwise quiet game, had a superb game today, as others have said.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Signing
« on: July 25, 2023, 08:53:04 PM »
Some of us did discuss this possible signing with some Stockport County supporting friends in Costello's before our game against them, and we agreed it seemed an obvious move which would benefit all parties. Good to see it happen at last!

Good luck to Ethan at the club; he has always looked like a very accomplished goalkeeper, and I am sure he will do well. I would expect Ollie Byrne to go out on loan,. Without knowing about any possible  recall agreement for Ethan Ross, I'd imagine this would only be a loan; hopefully, he can regain his form and confidence, but I think his eventual future may lie elsewhere, which is no disrespect - that's just the nature of football.
