Halifax two feeble draws and Shots to do the same - Southend to win 5-0 and be fuming!

Realistically speaking, how many times in recent seasons have Premier League teams been burdened by a replay in the earlier stages of this competition?

Probably the best example from this season was Cray Valley Paper Mills - but that was Charlton's problem, not the Premier League's.

If they were that interested in the actual FA Cup itself and the integrity of the competition, surely they recognised the jeopardy associated with playing a weakened side?

On the plus side, it might send the odd underdog through on the night. Maybe.

As much as I wouldn't have been that averse to a Gateshead victory - because I'm confident we'll win on Saturday to go Top 5 either way - last night was probably the best outcome all around given that Shots absolutely laboured to the victory unconvincingly, despite Heed having an outfield player in goal - and Heed were chasing an additional man for 45 minutes.

Those two and Halifax really aren't looking convincing at all, and Solihull not much better either.

One of them really needs to scrape through at the expense of Southend.

Gateshead have made eight changes, and Aldershot have rested Stokes and Tolaj.

All the more reason to pass them in the other direction this season  ;D

Unless Bromley win in midweek, they'll probably be putting out a very weak team at the weekend as they'll be confirmed as finishing third and will be keeping their powder dry for the play off semi.

I was actually thinking about that myself - given they'd have 8 days to recover, surely the best policy for them would be to stick with their best XI?

Something we thankfully won't have to worry about - we have the perfect opportunity to take huge momentum into the playoffs on Saturday and I'm sure the lads will take it.

If Halifax pick up 3 points tonight then that is the play off places confirmed, just the final order to be resolved. To keep momentum we need to win on Saturday and then see where that places us. Home tie next Tuesday/Wednesday would be awesome. If we make the semi's then either of Barnet/Bromley will be tough, but we know that. Seems we have had better results at Barnet in the past, so maybe that's the route and on grass. Either way lets get past Saturday first and see whom we have at home. One game at a time now. COYR

My hunch tells me that Barnet is more of a classic York (A) from last time - they'll have the pressure of being playoff favourites, but our lads will know they can turn them over on the day as they've done it before.

For that reason it's not the end of the world for Gateshead to scrape wins in their games this week - but I reckon they'll drop points somewhere, if not versus Shots then certainly very likely versus Bromley.

Chances are will need to beat both Bromley and Barnet, one at their place and one at Wembley. Home advantage possibly bigger for Bromley so go to Barnet and take Bromley in the final?

Barnet's home record is stronger than Bromley's, so I suspect it wouldn't make much difference either way.

I can't decide which one I'd prefer myself.

Since our return to this level, whilst our last outing at Bromley might have felt like a victory at the end, our record against them is pretty grim!

We haven't beaten them in eight attempts, and it's probably for the best we won't play them at our place - where we've been defeated on every occasion.

Compare that to Barnet, where our record is reasonable - and includes probably the best victory of the lot (last season's 4-2) and the worst (this season's 0-3):

Barnet (Away): W2 D1 L1 F7 A7 Pts7/12
Barnet (Total): W3 D2 L3 F13 A15 Pts11/24

Bromley (Away): W0 D3 L1 F4 A6 Pts3/12
Bromley (Total): W0 D3 L5 F6 A12 Pts6/24

As mentioned previously though, all bets are off once we get to this stage - the stage almost seems set for us to finally get one over on Bromley.

Bloody hell, that's awful for him.

Get well soon Justin and hopefully he can join up with us for the start of the new season (or certainly not very long afterwards).

Assuming we get a home eliminator, who would we prefer to visit in the semi finals - Barnet or Bromley?

The pacing of finishing 4th is slightly nicer, as it's four days rest into the first game and then another four - but that doesn't answer your question...

Purely from a spectator's point of view, playing on the Saturday v Barnet would be better logistically for travel - but that doesn't answer your question either!

Obviously there's the pitch differences - the lads are used to playing on an artificial surface and I really don't like Barnet's ground.

So Bromley it is (I think)?!

Hope Justin's OK - had really rotten luck this season.

A win should do it for Halifax I reckon, they'll fancy themselves to get it done at 'home' to Ebbsfleet.

If we beat Halifax (H), then Bromley (A), then possibly Barnet at Wembley, we utterly will have deserved it (promotion) 😉

Easy-peasy eh? 😂😂

That's certainly what it looks like at the moment - revenge over a knackered Halifax side with no Milli Alli to bail them out will be so sweet.

It is just passion nothing more nothing less. I shout and curse when I go to Alty, but I do return to normality after the game is over,. If you want to avoid the shouting and cussing then I suggest going to the Opera.

Sorry... are we still discussing the same incident?!

You tell me

Spitting = "just passion, no more no less"?

Are you for real?
