Oldham have never beaten us in a league game since their relegation. I foresee that carrying on.

If we get a good return from this very tough run of 3 away games in the next 4 then the road to the top 3 opens up. Crunching the numbers to finish 3rd in the last 5 fully completed National league seasons you need an average of 84 points so another 32 points from the 48 points still remaining. Doable but tough. Need to win nearly all our home games then likely pick up 3-4 wins on the road I’d say. We have a favourable run in but the only side who really look done for are Oxford so every game will be a test.

We have to be targeting 2nd or 3rd. Give ourselves a one-off 90 minute home shot of Wembley.

I wont say this after a losing final, but a Wembley final would be generation defining for anyone under 35, and could galvanise a whole new fan base to get us to 2.5k/3k regular home fans capable of winning this league

100%. Be keeping a close eye on the Trophy draw tomorrow. Barnet & Bromley both still in it-let’s hope for easier draws for both. Fixture pile up & cup distraction. The two strong favourites now surely.

Agree too on how a 4th Wembley appearance could be the making of a new generation. I’m just about old enough to remember the 28 game unbeaten run in the fabled 90-91 season & then the FA Cup tie at Spurs in ‘95 as two strong formative Alty memories. The younger generation of our support deserve one of these mega days out & it will have a hugely positive effect on our numbers going forward.

Also worth saying as I’ve seen a few on Facebook that seasons like this don’t come around very often. It’s the kind of season you’ll be boring younger supporters with in 20 years. Doesn’t need saying on here but every league game between now and Oxford City (they’ll be down by then, should be a cracking day out for all) is absolutely vital & potentially historic. You won’t want to be missing too much of it.

Now all ticket for away fans - no ticket sales if full or beyond 2pm.

I'm probably being a bit slow here, but don't we face the prospect of ticketless Dale fans coming in our end?
Agree with this.

Lot of sympathy with the club on this one. Rochdale simply don’t have the support to warrant the 1,600 Oldham/Stockport level allocation so it’s sensible to advise their fans with 24 hrs to go to get one online in advance if you want to make sure. They’ll probably get v close to selling 956 though so can’t say they weren’t warned. I’ve no doubt a few of them may get in our end so let’s hope stewards & GMP are proactive tomorrow.

On a related note I hope their fans aren’t as highly tedious in real life as they are proving on Twitter with constant moans about the pitch, thinking were engaged in a conspiracy theory to sell them as many tickets online in advance & thinking they are in some way a big club.

Leaving aside you know what this is a game we need to win & I expect us too. A bizarrely high number of Rochdale fans online seem to think our awful 3-0 at theirs is representative of our wider level.

Gate will be interesting. I can see them bringing about 800-1000 & there being about 3500ish or so in. Floaters may decide late but the forecast is much better by Saturday.

To return to everyone’s favourite topic I imagine our pitch & the lack of guarantee we can offer the telly in the winter months is not helping our cause for future home televised fixtures.

« on: February 08, 2024, 10:41:30 AM »
We need a bigger solution than just fixing the pitch.

Trafford Council should have been bending over backwards to bring Sale home, now is the time more than ever with a future football league club in the borough.

The new hybrid turfs that are at old Trafford, Wembley etc. can easily handle the rigours of rugby and football.

Time to get serious about a new home. It's already not going to happen overnight.
Do not disagree if a genuine cost / benefit analysis proves to be positive....otherwise, why should Community Tax payers support private sports clubs ?

Who said the Council fund it? They just need to show some willing to make it happen. They have been the core issue with every attempt that has been made by Sale to both stay (Heywood Road development) and to come back (Fletcher Moss Proposal being the most recent)

The idea behind it being a dual-team venue is how it can be funded... There are Billionaire owners at both teams at this point.

We build a 15,000 seat stadium with two on-site training facilities a la Carrington and Edgerton for both teams. They are available for the community each evening and for schools on schedule in the day.

We've no chance of staying at Moss Lane, we had issues getting locals on board for improved floodlights that reduced the light leak onto their houses. Does anyone honestly think they will stand for major stand builds on their doorstep?

To the out-of-town argument, York moved out of town and gained 1500 new fans...
Stadium that holds 15k is way more than likely needed......Morecambe, Accrington, Salford, Harrogate and Barrow all struggle to reach 3k in L2. In L1, Fleetwood, Port Vale and Burton struggle to get 4k.......Do enough improvements to keep ML safe and legal, improve facilities and worry about a new stadium if we looking like advancing to the Championship.

As for getting Trafford on-board, then no idea how we do this. I have complained about the pavements outside the old snooker centre pounding water and decomposed leaves, forcing pedestrians to step into the road on match days, only to be told it still meets their safety criteria.... ::).....when I reminded them that I was talking to the same TMBC who closed our ground due to some crumbly concrete on the terraces....they told me that money was in short supply and that they need to prioritise their spending across many competing issues.....if their dealings with the club are as helpful as their dealings with community tax payers, then we have no chance

Agreed 15k is far too much but with respect to all of the clubs listed above (with the exception of Port Vale) I’d argue we are a bigger club, better located then nearly all of them & with a higher ceiling. We’ve basically added 1000 to our average home gate in the last 3 years by dint of being a lower mid table conference team. Getting an average of 2,500 in the next few years should be achievable. 3k in the EFL with some large away supports factored in wouldn’t be that hard.

Agree with most on this thread. The issues go way beyond the pitch & more that we have a plan to deliver a ground that is fit for a side aspiring to the FL. Moss Lane was fine when for most of the last 30 years we were bumbling round the Unibond/CN getting anywhere between 650-1200 but in the new era it just doesn’t cut it. Whether it’s the inadequate number of toilets, the insufficient legroom & views in many parts of the main stand, the low quality PA system, the poor away facilties. We basically have a Conference play off team with a Conference North/NPL level ground. The board, of course, know all this.

I also agree with others that doing the necessary & staying at Moss Lane would be very difficult. The local NIMBY’s would make the whole process a nightmare. I’ve thought for a little while now that moving may be the best option. Problem is we play in the most expensive part of one of the most expensive cities in the U.K. so whilst I believe Trafford are sympathetic & open to discussion the options will be limited. The retail parks & around Broadheath always strike me as the likeliest possible avenue. Either way in the summer I think the Board need to illuminate us all on their current thinking on this & where we are.

The Isle of Man pre-season tour in summer 2022. Ryan was involved in a late night scuffle with a bouncer outside a casino.

« on: February 04, 2024, 04:00:13 PM »
Yeah. It would be fine tomorrow night but yet again another very iffy Tuesday forecast. The 4th occasion this game has been scheduled for, it’ll be mortifying for the club & our reputation if we can’t get this on & extremely frustrating for poor Dorking. The fact that we are currently between groundsmen too presumably isn’t going to help.

If we do get it on whilst Dorking are always a decent outfit who play the right way, they invariably concede so I’d expect us to be winning this comfortably in our current run & v strong home record. 3-1 Alty I’d suggest. These Tuesday night attendances ideally will grow too, we can’t be losing about 800 people from a Saturday as standard. Obviously they’ll always be a drop with school kids & people working/exiles but if we are potentially going to be in the EFL next year then the midweek support has to get stronger.

With Hyde 4th in the NPL this is definitely a big step up from beating Northwich & Stalybridge. Granted I suspect they will also rotate-Conference North is their aim. It is still a plastic pitch I believe-part of the logic of switching from our place. Will be a good test for the squad players. I hope attitudes are correct as we’ll get done if not.

That was superb. Eastleigh couldn’t live with us & from 1-11 everyone made a contribution. Back to 2000+ Saturday home gates being the norm too. Should get 3k against Rochdale in a few weeks I’d wager.

Be good on Tuesday for the squad & also Parky mentioned Donowa in his interview too so great to see him back.

The pitch looked fine too. The real test will be the 3 games in 7 days mind.

Yeah, the pitch & the forecast no doubt a big concern. Plus side is it’s over 2 weeks since we last had a home match & I believe we’ve borrowed some heat lamps off Stoke for the especially dodgy patch in front of the main stand. The forecast tomorrow well known & we’ve had time to prepare plus it should stop at least 3-3.5 hrs before KO so gives us some time to work on it.
As part of the pitch crew, Stoke haven’t lent us any lamps.
Who told you they have ?

Well, someone certainly has. See the post on the Facebook group earlier today.

Yes. I meant to put it to the boffins on here about Newby. What do we think the chances are of keeping him until the end of the season (when, I believe, his contract at Colchester expires)?

If the Cowleys  see him in their plans,he will possibly go back otherwise its loan extended, pay a transfer fee or get released from his contact ?

I get the impression that Alex N wishes to come back to the NW for lifestyle reasons as much as football. So, if the Cowleys are sympathetic to that (and I imagine they’ll want a big clear out in the summer to prepare for a L2 promotion bid next season anyway) then we might just get lucky & keep him until the end of the season. Be a big loss if he does go back.

To regain our momentum after all the PP it’s a must win for me. We should have got something down there & need to put that right. Same team as in the first post I reckon. Eastleigh will be reeling after seeing the MUFC tie snatched away from them & then throwing it away (twice) last night at Boreham Wood-plus it’s a long old journey up here for a team who played Weds night.

On you know what, the temperatures & weather largely favourable between now & Saturday afternoon so whilst the pitch will obvs be heavy, I can’t see any doubts about it being on.

Oh and if we get a pen please let Newby or Linney take it.
