Altrincham FC First Team / Stevenage trains
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:28:54 PM »
London Alty will be on the 11:52 on Saturday to Stevo from Kings Cross, gets in 12:16, the plan to go to their bar to watch Liverpool-United game before ours then a Boro burger, the best burgers in the conference for me after Rushden. I will take a repeat of the hilarious 1-0 from 2 years ago if that's on offer. Always good to heckle Graham Westley as well.

Altrincham FC First Team / London Alty-Eastbourne trains
« on: August 27, 2008, 05:28:08 PM »
Right.

1 hour 30 from Victoria, direct. There is either.....

Leave Victoria 11:17 arrive Eastbourne 12:44

Or

Leave Victoria 11:47 arrive Eastbourne 1:13

One of them two should do it, what does the jury reckon? A bit of a walk but pubs on the way apparently or you can get a taxi. I have no idea about their ground/the town or distances involved so suggestions from anyone who has would be most welcome.

Altrincham FC First Team / London Alty-Waterloo Saturday
« on: August 04, 2008, 11:01:36 PM »
Right

The train of choice is the 12:30 from Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour, gets into Woking at 12:54.

Usual meeting point at Burger King.

All aboard for one of the best southern days out.

We are going to beat them, the first of many victories down south this season, we're going to absolutely piss it this season, nailed.

 ;D

Altrincham FC First Team / The Fish

Alty fans of a certain vintage may be interested to hear Fisher Athletic have made the Conference South Play offs and are at home to Hampton and Richmond Borough on Tueday night (at Dulwich Hamlet's ground where they play) I shall be going along with a mate who obviously for that club is a Millwall ST holder. If they do win them, how average gates of 250 or so, not having their own ground and the ground they do play in having about 400 seats will sit I don't know. I hope they make it though an then IF we do get that reprieve then I will have an away game a 10 minute walk from my front door next season!

Look at some of those predictions for away support!

As for the game itself I just hope Shots are getting a bit jittery, I await Lewis Chalmers 30 yard screamer into the top corner. A draw would be fantastic but I can't see it.

Altrincham FC First Team / 'Notches'
« on: February 14, 2008, 09:35:17 PM »
To use London Alty parlance, Rubbish & dustbins will be a 'notch' for me on Saturday, quite embarrased what with it being at least our 6th visit there over the years. Got me thinking of all the current Conference sides (after Satd) the only ones I've not see us play at are Farsley, Histon and Torquay (not seen us at Burton's new place either but I did go to Eton Park, the game where the coach got bricked). Being sarfern Alty fans some of our number have some shocking admissions though, Rocky has never been to Barrow, Laurence to Droylsden (lucky bastards, don't know what they're missing). I imagine many of our younger suporters have never had the delights of Macc either. What are people's Alty 'away records' like?

So, I see we lost tonight.

Had a quick look at the TR site, looked like they had a fairly strong team out. Anyone who went then, how did we play and what was the team?

Interesting thread this on the Barrow forum about their signing of Thompson. I think more than a few of them are going to be dissapointed...

Altrincham FC First Team / Reflections and thought for the future
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:10:30 PM »
Well, after all is said and done we are down and I don't think that the AGM will save us this year.

I think going into the last few matches without Chris Senior and Joe O'Neill didn't help matters but overall after 46 games we weren't good enough. Not winning an away league game until March didn't help and after that great run in March, our end to the season, much like last year was very poor.

As for the players, I realistically think most of them will still be here next season. Thornley, Coburn, Scott, Little, Band, Peyton etc have all played for us for a while now and other than Chalmers we haven't got in our regular starting XI what you might call any promising youngsters that other clubs would want to snap up. It should be easier to bring on people from the reserves now as well without the constant pressure of Conference National so maybe some of our own youngsters coming through. Don't know if Talbs, Bushell and Owen will stay on, I don't think Bushell would be the right type of player for Conference North certainly, though Val's experience could prove invauluable. As for Management, GH and DS have swum against the tide for 2 years but they know better than anyone what is required in Conference North and I don't think there is any question that they will be in charge for the 2007-08 season. I think Joe O'Neill may get a few more next season but another striker and a creative midfielder would be nice, as would a left back, even though Peyton has been superb all year out of position.

I'd hope our crowds are a bit above the traditional Conference North/Unibond level of 650 as we've definitely gained a few hundred new supporters over the last 2 years, whether they are floaters or hardcore remains to be seen. I'd hope we could aim for 800 average at least (the new community links should help with this) The 2000 yesterday and the 300 who went to Tamworth last Saturday shows that the support is there in the town.

A bit of a bugger for us Southern exiles but actually seeing us win the odd game comfortably without nerves shredded to pieces for 90 minutes will be good. A few new grounds to visit too. It will be tough with Tamworth and Southport also looking to bounce back but on and off the pitch (great news about Geoff deciding to stay on) I'd say we will be in good shape to challenge come August.

Altrincham FC First Team / Anyone else on here tonight?
« on: February 20, 2007, 08:09:08 PM »
Couldn't make it after having booked trains/day's off for the original date back in Jan :'(

Following it on BBC website, same team as at Crawley which played so well in the 2nd half. Seems to have been about a foul a minute according to the text commentary so far. Think that will suit us more than them. Connett the clown from Boxing Day in goal too. God it's nerve wracking stuff

Altrincham FC First Team / How many times.....
« on: January 05, 2007, 06:53:02 PM »
Will we hear on Match of the Day tmrw. evening the legend "Are you watching Altrincham" from the 500 or so actual  Macc Fans and the other 4000 bandwagon jumpers. They can't forget about us when the TV cameras are out. The game is actually a sell out btw as its 25 quid in for Chelski fans, which as anyone whose seen a Premier League game at Stamford Brdige will know is about half the normal price.

Anyone, here's hoping for at least the equal of Brigton's win over the Vics a couple of rounds ago. ;D

Altrincham FC First Team / Fixture congestion
« on: November 07, 2006, 11:18:17 PM »
Indulge me, bit bored. Realised between York game (Sunday 5 November) and Northwich (Tuesday 26 December) we have a possible 5 league games (likely to be 4, assuming Burton beat Tamworth in the FA Cup on Satd) . So that's 4 league games in approx 50 days. Then between December 26 and Jan 6, we have 4 league games in 10 days. It's a real bugger the way the fixtures work out sometimes. Only 1 home league game as well (who knows could be none if Crawley go tits up and Burton get to FA Cup 2nd round)between now and xmas is crap for the finances too.

Altrincham FC First Team / Today's results
« on: November 04, 2006, 06:05:35 PM »
Not too bad, with the teams immediately below us in the table either drawing or losing.

However, Vics and Stafford who are my benchmark for us currently in the table (both similar sized clubs with similar levels of support) are both beginning to pull away a bit. Need something tmrw. I am amazed that Stafford already have 26 points to be honest. Thought they would find it a lot harder. Well done to them.
