Altrincham FC First Team / Friday football
« on: March 25, 2013, 09:28:14 AM »
I know until the early 70s we oft played on Good Friday but I think the only time I've ever seen us play on a Friday before was much more recent.

Colchester United at home in 91-92, I believe it was Friday night for the TV and we lost 2-1. That was one depressing season after the immortal stuff of the year before. Anyone else remember this match?

Many congrats go to a former London Alty member on his appointment as the top dog at Radio 5 Live. I look forward to Flynny's regular prime time slot now :D

Altrincham FC First Team / Gloster away support at Moss Lane
« on: January 29, 2013, 12:01:57 AM »

Fair play to Gloster, they apparently have a 50 seater coach booked for their trip up on Saturday. Puts a lot of clubs much nearer to shame.

Altrincham FC First Team / AGM report on main site
« on: December 10, 2012, 11:01:53 PM »
I know the board often get a bit of stick on here but fair play to Mr Rowley and Co for turning a 60k loss into a small profit after our first year back in the regional leagues. Obviously wages and travel costs will have dropped sharply but so will have income through the gate. The very fact such information is even put on our official site for all to see is saying something when compared to a lot of our rivals at this level as well.

What's the deal though with the lease on Moss Lane? 17 years will soon catch up on us. Am I right in thinking the land has to have a sporting use or are we going to have housing developers sniffing round?

Altrincham FC First Team / Frank Sidebottom statue
« on: November 29, 2012, 11:17:30 PM »
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/the-northerner/2012/nov/28/frank-sidebottom

I see the campaign for a statue of Frank Sidebottom in Timperley Village is well on the way now to reaching its target and requesting planning permission off the council.

I hope they get the remaining cash and get the statue up, not everyone's cup of tea but I was always a fan and he helped our (and of course his own) media profile a lot back in the day.

Altrincham FC First Team / Euro 2012-LUMP ON
« on: June 06, 2012, 08:22:09 PM »
Apologies if I've missed it but I don't think we have a Euro 2012 betting thread.

Whose going for what then?

I like France at 10-1 with Benzema at 12-1 to be top scorer after the brilliant season he's just had.

RVP is also generally available at around 10s to be top scorer.

Jimmy Hill and Rocket Dan will be all over this. Is anyone mental enough to bet on England to win?

Altrincham FC First Team / Histon village
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:14:16 PM »
Now that the season has *officially* been called over by the Altyfans Forum Police is anyone actually going to Histon village on Saturday? I am, the classic away day drinkers trip this, can't beat it. Plus Histon are crap these days, we might even win now the pressures off.

Altrincham FC First Team / Fair play to Eastbourne
« on: April 26, 2011, 12:37:50 PM »
A full 35 seater coach all that way when long since doomed, interesting bit too about the WSC article, I look forward to reading that. I think the only sober people in the ground at KO will be the players ;D

Calling all Alty fans in or around that London.

The gumpers away on Saturday April 09, a six pointer if ever there was one and a chance to heckle Colin Peake too, not to be missed.

A few of us shall be getting the train from Paddington to Stroud that day, get in now and its a £25 return for an adult or less if you are a stewdent (hello Jimmy Hill).

The 10:15 from Paddington gets you into Stroud for 11:45 and from there we have a decent pub lined up pre game. Nailsworth and the ground is about 4 miles away or a tenner or so in a taxi. We are getting the 6:32 back into London at 814.

Never forget or forgive....

Great stuff and absolutely fascinating reading for those of us not privileged enough to have been around during the true glory years.

From the Blue Square site, some outfit called 'Altrincham Town' are apparently 11/2 to beat Stevenage on Saturday, worth a dabble. Pisspoor (but predictable) that the League's official sponsors don't actually know/use our correct title on their website.

Interesting read, the old schoolboy 'Moss Road' error in there but otherwise pretty good.

Altrincham FC First Team / Lewes pubs
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:12:25 PM »
I believe there may well be a drink or two involved on Saturday, this is what a Lewes fan had to say on Confguide re pubs worth checking out.

In the words of our esteemed webmaster 'Harveys ale is well worth sampling', you can't argue with that. :D

Altrincham FC First Team / London Alty pub for the match-New Year's day

http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/59/590/Railway_Tavern/Liverpool_Street

Assuming the game is on, the Railway Tavern on Liverpool Stret from 2pm is the suggested venue. This was the same pub were we watched the stirring comeback from 2 down against Woking last season so hopefully a good omen.
