Non Altrincham FC Talk / Save CSCA

On the topic of helping Ukraine, which the Altrincham community as a whole have supported most wonderfully can I self-indulgently ask for your donations to my fundraiser to help save the Ukrainian Army football club. All donations in these difficult times massively appreciated:

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: York Fans and Club staff

Our fans are the best part of our club, if anything we are far too nice which means we've allowed our club to be run into the ground in recent years and not done enough about it.

But such nice words are always great to hear, and praise must rightly go to the Altrincham ground staff for getting the game on, especially due to the ever rising train ticket price from York to Manchester many of our fans will have had advance purchase non-refundable travel tickets. So the Alty staff's efforts are very much appreciated.

Am coming to this. Seen Alty there before. It was a night game. Someone fouled Duncan Watmore and some local old timers got upset when a well known Alty fan called Guiseley 'A rich man's plaything'. Bovril spilt everywhere in indignation. Finished 1-1.

Altrincham v York City for the unofficial El Double Relegatiano derby.

Seeing as we did Vase Winners v Trophy Winners in the FA Cup (and lost to South Shields) it seems the most just outcome of the draw.

Unsegregated though this time please as sneaking into the bar at half-time from the away end can be like an episode of Mr Ben.

Nice work chaps, I will have to come along in that case. National Rail says it's only 32 minutes direct on a cattle train so it'd be rude not to.

Altrincham FC First Team / Horrorgate Tories
« on: December 02, 2013, 02:01:43 PM »
Greetings,

As the Mighty Minstermen don't have a game on Saturday (FA Cup 2nd Round, of course we bloody don't!) I was thinking of hopping on the train to Harrogate to watch this season's Altrincham FC promotion push.

Are you planning on drinking at the ground or is anyone venturing into the town itself as, if memory serves, the ground is on the way out to York on Wetherby Road?

One of the Tory centre backs is a young lad on loan from York so I'll tell him to let a couple of goals in and stuff seeing as how non-league football is a big fix apparently.

Most football fans would go crackers at any injury time winner after such a hard-fought game even if it was a bread and butter mid-table game on a cold October evening. Anyone who condemns such behaviour, or thinks it's out of place, clearly doesn't understand the game or the passion it instills in people. I suppose Billy Turley used to play for Rushden in an empty white elephant of a stadium, so perhaps that's the football culture he's used to?

If they were intimidated by the crowd on Tuesday night, how on earth will they cope on Saturday with a rowdy away crowd in even closer proximity to them?

If the promise from the terraces of "Taking over, taking over, taking over Saturday" comes to fruition I hope they have plenty of tissues to wipe away the tears from the inevitable "it's not fair" blubbing that will go on.

As a neutral I would like to say what an absolutely cracking game that was last night, fair play to both sides who went hell for leather for the full 90 minutes and provided magnificent entertainment.

I thought the Altrincham fans were superb and practically sucked both goals into the net, it must have been great to have been playing in front of that kind of noisy crowd - and then to score in the 90+3 minute, great stuff.

Actually, when a lot of neutral observers' eyes were on the two "stars" of Watmore and Reeves, I thought they were fairly quiet and it was some of the others who really stepped up to the plate, especially at 1-0 down.

Should be another good game on Saturday, dare I say a little bit messy?  :D

Good luck, anyway.

Really enjoyed the game today, both teams passed it about well but Alty were a class above a hard-working Vauxhall outfit. A lot of 5-6 pass attacking combinations which was pretty impressive I thought.

Great relief to see that cracking goal go in after Reeves' miss from a yard out at 0-0.

Would be interested to see Alty TV's highlights of that melee at the end when the away side nearly equalised - did it hit the post?

Anyway, good day out. Now back to the misery of the day job!

A great cause and I will definitely be putting in a bid.

As a York City fan who has spent most of his adult life watching football from the David Longhurst Stand, I think this campaign is spot on.

The darkest day in our club's history. Forget relegations and defeats, when somebody dies on the pitch it makes all that meaningless.

Altrincham FC First Team / Friday's Game
« on: March 26, 2013, 11:59:02 PM »
Sorry to be a high maintenance type but, having had my attempts to throw beer down my neck and watch Alty scuppered for a second week in a row, is Friday's game looking likely to be on?

I was thinking of coming across before scuttling off home in time for a Saturday trip to Bristol Rovers.

Also, RE: the shirt auction, do you have any other players apart from Stuart Coborn who are XXL size?

Ho ho ho ho.

Seems strange considering all other games in the region seem to be on, including 3 clubs with lesser resources in Wakefield only 20 miles away.

Very disappointing.

Cheers Mark,

If memory serves there's a nice boozer just on the corner by the station, hope to be in there to sink a couple pre-match once I've escaped from work.

Looking at the table it should be a cracking game.

Altrincham FC First Team / Guiseley on Tuesday
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:23:24 PM »
Am thinking of giving Tuesday's match a visit as it's only half an hour down the road from me and, quite honestly, I've got nothing better to do.

Anyone know how much it is to get in?

With it being a big game at a tiny ground it's not all-ticket or anything outlandish like that is it?

How many Alty going do you think?

Answers on a postcard to: League 2 relegation dogfight, Bootham Crescent, York.
