I'm starting to wonder how this season is going to end. We're looking stronger every game.

These professional performances we've seen recently are a definite step up from away performances in the past. We are becoming difficult to beat with a settled defensive unit as well as the forwards.
To be hyper critical I would say we need to be better finishers and sometimes all our good work goes to waste because we can't stick the ball in the net. Still, three winnable home games coming up.....

Very similar to the Barnet game, except that we kept the energy and workrate up until the end this time, a massive positive and must bode well for the future.
Eastleighs' training session at Old Trafford on Friday didn't do them much good!

Altrincham FC First Team / We Don't seem to Score Headers Anymore
« on: January 07, 2024, 10:53:36 PM »
It struck me on Saturday. Gone are the days of John Rogers or Kenny McKenna who were lethal in the air.
Defenders score the odd goal from corners or free kicks but our strikers very rarely seem to. It isn't a massive problem when we have such talented forwards with the ball at their feet but it would be good to have another weapon in our arsenal.
The club seem to have noticed this as well, our corners against Barnet were low ones that bounced before reaching the penalty area, one of which we converted of course.
Not a major concern, but worth noting I would say.

Definitely a game of two halves. A cagey first 45 followed by an end to end open second 45. Could have gone either way. There were 3 extraordinary misses by Dackers, Amaluzor and Linney though

Not sure if its just my imagination but when we fall behind in some games the players seem to give up and you can tell we aren't going to get back into it. This was a prime example.
We also need Linney to get his shooting boots on, his replacements aren't up to the job. Two very disappointing losses.

Breathless second half, shows why I prefer watching Alty to supposedly higher level teams. No play acting or trying to fool the ref, just two good teams out to play football.
2-0 was harsh on Southend but two quality moves for the goals justify the three points.

We definitely didn't work their keeper enough.
He looked very nervous and made a complete mess of two very average shots in the first half, the second should have been put in on the rebound by Angus.

Without CCC we'd be a much weakened side. Trouble is we know what happens when a player starts to stand out from the rest.
Don't want a repeat of January, someone tell him to play rubbish for a couple of games!

Sigh, when will we learn?
Considering we had 11 men behind the ball for most of that second half, Fylde seemed to find space remarkably easily.
Another point gained but should have been 3.

No fluke result there. Feel great that we have come away with the win we deserved. Fantastic second half, completely overran them by the end.

This would be terrible news if true. Barrys' goal at Rotherham is one of my favourite Alty moments.

These last minute capitulations are going to cost us in the long run. we didn't concede late on but could have done.
I've never been a fan of taking off attackers and bringing on defenders at the end of matches, it just invites the opposition to come forwards. We're more than good enough for this league, lets keep our style of play going for the whole game.

Makes me very nostalgic. What a team we had for a couple of months.
