Be sad to see Nuneaton disappear , they were one of our main challengers in the early years of the APL and have had a number of good FA cup runs of note too . Beat Stoke and drew with Middlesborough in the noughties .  Largest town in Warwickshire with near 90,000 population.

And not forgetting gave us one of the finest goalkeeping displays ever seen at Moss Lane. A 3-0 FA Cup win in 2001 was built by world class save followed by world class save from Coburn. I'm sure there's grained camcorder footage on Youtube somewhere, remember watching it and you can hear Ecky, who was on tannoy duty, shouting 'Go on Rod' repeatedly as he scores the 3rd  :D

Another fantastic pie producer is To Pie For, based in Warrington but are regularly at the monthly makers market in Sale. £5 a pop but certainly worth it.

In essence, he’s hooked me into our club and shaped my life in that regard. Moreover he gave myself and my father times and a bond that I don’t think we could have had in another way.

Same here, although replace 90/91 with 94/95. That team he moulded was an image of himself with the steely grit and determination of Carmody and Green with the quality of Sharrat and Terry. I could see the genuine sadness when I told my dad the news this morning.

What a man. We can say about missing people no longer with us at the club, but without John King there would be no club. You can even forgive the infamous f'ing gobsh**e comment about the fans, such was his standing. RIP

And points achieved in the Conference this Century

Am I correct in thinking that was the 54 points we gained when we finished 14th a dozen or so years ago?

We achieved 56 from 46 games in 08/9 finishing 14th, and 54 from 44 games 09/10 finishing 15th.

We'd need 55 this year on PPG, or 57 if we want no debate. 11 points from our final 8 games, which includes 4 home games (3 against bottom-half sides.)

So win three and draw two in the last eight games and we've done it.
I believe we can do at least that. 👍

Any other team would be targeting 60 points with our form, but I'd take 57 knowing Alty  ;D

I was watching Alty back then, but only at home, did we have such poor and fabulous runs that years, or was very much win 1, draw 1 lose 2 across the season? I vaguley remember a bucket collection for playoff fees ?

http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/resu09.htm

It was once it did the collection we fell by the wayside. 3 wins from the last 19 games, including 5 defeats from the last 6.

Although it was a carnival atmosphere, it was so gutting that Colin Little's career ended in defeat, including missing a penalty. Technically that season he only scored against Hayes & Yeading, with his other goals against the defunct Chester City.

A pleasure and a privilege to call him a friend. Not much more I can add to what has been said about him. Some great memories include

Sitting in the dugout when we got back from Stoke, looking around the ground and chatting about away end being full of Oxford, Exeter etc

His stag do at Doncaster races and Brickhouse

Numerous coach journies to random places, including him driving a minibus (or in his car as it was for Grantham)

The pre-season game at Whitchurch when I left my car at his, and I had a few too many and couldnt drive.

But one memory that stays with me was when he told me he couldn't attend my wedding as he'd recently found out about the cancer. I was gutted he couldn't come, but my heart sank when he told me that.

I know we've lost some big characters in recent years, but there will never be another Ecky

Before my whinge, let's give Stockport the credit. As been said, have us sussed, but as any football game, 1st goal is key. If Hancock shot gone in rather than the post we'd be talking about a different game.

Go back to the cup game, and we were well on top until Williams picked up his injury, so fully understand why he started ahead of richman. Just Williams had a poor game. Great to see jones back, but as much as love dens we badly missed White today. Hope Jordan watched that and realised the consequences of his actions (although he is a player who you don't want to change, it annoys me it was an avoidable red)

Top 5 going in to the festive period, I'd snap your hand off. Get back on track at Guiesley and go from there

I'm assuming we stand?....in the harry McNally stand??
Last time I went there I seem to remember we were all in the seats in the far corner, the away terrace was closed & they seemed surprised at the number we brought. Hopefully they'll have done a bit more homework this time …
The Harry McNally is the home end.

Indeed, and that was when the 'We're not Vauxhall Motors, there's seats over there' chant was born!!

Best end of season for many a year. Phil and Neil have brought the heart of a non league club back to this place. The feeling of togetherness with players that they stayed long after the awards says a lot. Onwards to next season!!

As said, we knew it was coming but still very sad. Jacqui was the one who got me to first don Rocky Robin whilst launching STAR, and it was a role I enjoyed for many years. Thank you and R.I.P.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Workington match thread
« on: March 14, 2018, 12:20:41 PM »
I think we need to be careful how much we nitpick some of the lads’ performances tonight. They were all part of the same XI that blew Stourbridge away last Tuesday - let’s not go all Championship Manager on the back of a disappointing evening. They should be afforded the opportunity to regroup and respond on Saturday.

We’ve set ourselves a high standard and our failure to reach that in the first half is what cost us. To their  credit Workington looked prepared for much more than we threw at them. It was nowhere near good enough and they don’t need us to tell them that, they certainly don’t need a few crackpots booing them off at half-time. Weirdos.

Completely different team in the second half. Much more like it. Again, not to the level we’ve hit at times this season but we aren’t a team of robots. We’re humans and we’re top of the league by six points still. I’ll take that in anticipation of a big response against Bridge.

100% agree.

I would also say it's a timely reminder that although it's useful if Warrington and Shaw Lane drop points, it's up to us to keep going. If we carry on winning, there's nothing they can do. We need to keep the focus on ourselves and 3 points on Saturday gets us going again.

Draw fair result. 1st half we seemed to be controlling the game without really creating much, and never really got going 2nd half.

After the best ref we had all season last week, this one was up there as one of the worst I've seen, and I'm never one to usually have a go at refs. Our penalty was never one, the free kick for their 2nd was never one, and I don't think I've ever seen the full time whistle blown when the ball has gone out for a corner. You always see if they have gone past the allocated time that they allow the final passage of attacking play to be completed.

4 points against a top 5 side is good for me. Same return from the 2 games against Shaw Lane should see us further strengthen our position, and dare I say it one hand on the trophy.

To clarify, the Birmingham Senior Cup is not classed as a 1st team game, so is banned from the reserves but can play 1st team. The rules the Cheshire Senior Cup should be.

« on: February 03, 2018, 06:28:00 PM »
Has everyone forgotten that Altrincham got promoted in 1999 on an absoutely dreadful pitch where the drainage issues were a lot worse than the ones experienced so far this season?

Was going to say the same. And how many many teams do you see full stop, never mind at this level, switch Home games to another ground? It is extremely rare, as it is the nature at this level. Should Shaw Lane be playing at Oakwell given the amount of games they’ve had off?? We’re in a great position, and when we get the home games on the pitch will be in a position to suit us anyway

The supporters coach is nearly back, but as someone who was at the ground I can confirm they did try to get it on, with volunteers helping out since 12. Spoke to them in the bar before we headed back. It’s just one of those things for me, in some refs opinions it’s playable, in others not playable. Their manager was also gutted it was off, so none of this bollocks that they wanted it off.

We paid for Andy "Spud Van" McDonald as well, but I can't remember if that was before or after Peter Band.

Andy (right) is a skilful central midfielder who signed for Altrincham from Witton Albion in late July, 2002 for a small fee, reportedly provided by a club benefactor.

Peter (left) signed from Hyde United for a small fee in July 2002.

I'd say McDonald just. Seem to remember both fees were only 1k?
