Altrincham FC First Team / Playoff dates
« on: April 19, 2014, 01:15:31 PM »
Can anyone confirm the dates for the playoff semi finals and final? (assuming we get there!)

I'm hoping the final isn't on Sunday 11th May due to a clash with a family christening, which I'll have to find an excuse to avoid if Alty get into the final.. and means I'll be in the doghouse for weeks!

Can't find it anywhere on the internet...

Thanks in advance...

Altrincham FC First Team / Is there a bar at Guiseleys ground
« on: April 10, 2013, 08:15:51 PM »
Am heading over straight from work tomorrow, is there a club at the ground or anyone know of a decent boozer close to the ground?

Altrincham FC First Team / Team for tonight
« on: November 07, 2012, 09:44:07 AM »
Team for tonight for me would be

Reid
Densmore
Leather
Hall
Grimshaw
Lawrie
Watmore
Moult
Ofori
Brooke
Mitchley

Stupidly you have to play your strongest team, I'm not sure we'd get away with playing less of the starting 11 from Sunday.

Mysteriously when the Cheshire FA enquire, Coburn, Havern, Doughty, Bruno, Clee, Reeves all have either a) all took knocks on Sunday or b) have a 'team' stomach bug

I don't want to play down the CSC, but we'll have to give some of those left out above a game on Saturday in the trophy which realistically we have a better chance of winning than the FA Cup (albeit only just)  ;D

Anyone know if there is a bar/club at the ground?

If not, is there anywhere close that does a decent pint?

Altrincham FC First Team / WE can Do this!
« on: April 21, 2011, 11:44:17 PM »
Over the past few days i've been looking at the forum (and not posted). I've been thinking about the practicality of our next 3 games!!!

I honestly believe that we have the ability to win at least 2 of them! Whether that means in our bid to stay up, we will!  - I don't know.

But I do know that given our set backs (Coburns unavailability and Youngs recall) we still have enough quality in our squad to do enough on Saturday to win!

I've read all of the posts over the last few days and even the most hardocre amongst us have said we're going down - I know they still believe, that this is a bid to bring us all together.

We're all looking at other results, but the resiliance of the hardcore that have endured this season and the resolve that we've all shown will ( i have no doubt) come together on Saturday and prevail!

We are one...... We are Alty.... We still Believe..... We can do this......

I hope the players read this and have passion to produce a result not only on Saturday, but Monday and the Sat after.......

What does everybody think?

Smith to Stockport seems to have gone quiet. Is it happening?

Do we expect any new faces to bolster our squad?

Altrincham FC First Team / Maximum Capacity at Moss Lane
« on: January 22, 2011, 10:40:47 PM »
Trying to break up the morose nature of today, a nostalgia question for you forumites!

What is the maximum capacity that Moss Lane has ever held.

I know that the record attendance is 10,275 - Altrincham boys vs Sunderland boys English schools shield 1925!!!

But what is the max capacity that the ground was meant to hold at anyone time (i.e. before the morseleum or the family stand or even before the main stand was developed!)

I'm "advised" it was was c9000 but given the 6085 limit at present (as per non league directory). Can anybody advise in any certainty what it was??

Thanks,

PS - Today was a blip, we'll be back to winning ways on Tuesday!!

Altrincham FC First Team / FA Cup 4th qualifying round
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:52:15 PM »
So who do we all fancy in the draw?

I'd love Vics or FC Halifax.

Vics - obvious win over Chorley today (4-1)
Halifax beat Burscough after beating Droylsden in the 2nd qualifying round...

Altrincham FC First Team / Commendable effort
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:38:23 PM »
Thought the lads gave it all this afternoon when we went down to 10 then 9 men.. Kearney, absolute quality addition (apart from end product today), smith - monumental. Wish we'd started Youngy (despite lack of match fitness).

No point going on about the ref.. He was inconsistent, but I wouldn't say awful. The major decisions went against us! His Linesman (on the Pop side) though was attrocious.. I think Williams was prob offside, but so was their first, even when the first shot that Stuart saved was struck.

In recent seasons gone by though, we'd have capitulated and shipped 5 today.  Fair play to the lads, they kept playing football and looked the more threatening in the 2nd half.

Heads up lads, get yourselves back together and play like that next week. Luton won't know what hits them.

Doughty should have kept his mouth shut for the first yellow and Chrissy Senior should know never to raise your hands.. It's asking for a Red card. Mansfield are very poor! Bully boy tactics with little quality (apart from Briscoe who I thought looked dangerous all game til he went off). Thought their forwards were woeful. If I was an olympic judge i'd have been giving 9.9's for their dives!

Altrincham FC First Team / So everythings OK now then?
« on: September 20, 2008, 07:32:38 PM »
Quite simply no it is not..

GH, Total and utter prat (as if we did not know that already!)

Not because of his actions, although they are completely out of order. I think the only person that wants him at this club is the chairman - who has his eyes on other things (his sons karting career!)

I don't doubt that GH has a knowledge of the Non-league and does thoroughly read the NL paper every week. But in all honesty to add to his gutteral demeanour, the guy is tactically inept!!

Where was Denham? Apparently the rumour was he's sick? Is that all they could come up with? At least be honest and tell us if he's still our player?

Where was Tierney? Has he not chased him for a while? He has played at a much better standard, does he not warrant a place in the squad?

Greg Young did well when he came on, make no bones. But if he is the choice ahead of Dale Johnson, then what message does that send out? Admittedly, Johnson has not been playing well, but he is a striker.

The subs were V strange as well!!! Doughty for Little, O' Neill to right wing??  I don't get it, how can the man justify his position? He has clearly lost the dressing room and the majority of the fans. The fans were quite right to sing what they did today and it should contninue until he finally gets the message!

We have 3 very tough games in the next 10 days. All of which we will be the underdogs in.. Hopefully the feelings of the crowd will not be lost on GH and he will finally do the decent thing and fall on his sword and leave this proud club, before he ruins it once and for all (although given his joviality in the bar after the game this is very unlikely)

Finally, well done to the lads today, a tough task against a stubborn team. We finally broke them down, but we are going to have to improve ten fold to stand a chance in the next 3 games. Lets hope the words of the captain in the match programme today ring true.

Altrincham FC First Team / I just can't wait for Tuesday!!!
« on: August 09, 2008, 11:48:41 PM »
After today's result I can't wait for Tuesday... I'm sure we'll all be in full voice!!

We have a real chance of 6 points from 6....

Like it was ever in doubt, but let's raise the roof....

I watched Barrow on Fri, despite the Oxford lad being sent off, Barrow still looked competent!

COME ON ALTY!!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Reflection
« on: April 26, 2008, 10:11:48 PM »
All,

Firstly, may i congratulate all of the Alty fans that travelled to Weymouth today - sadly I couldn't go, but you are a credit to your team - I saw numerous faces from this forum that were there - Gaz W, Ecky, Duke etc, etc (Sorry if I missed you)

Secondly, can I congratulate the team for tryin their best today, OK, we didn't win, but we played in a style that I wish we'd played all year (a few games excepted!)

I do feel it is time for a year end post mortem - maybe it's a bit early but lets face it, when is a good time?!?!?

As i've said I couldn't travel today,  but I have seen 30 of our 46 games, so I can have a balanced opinion.

Opinion 1 - GH has done a great job for us for 6 years (in Oct), despite votes of confidence, now is the time for him to move over and let someone else bring their idea's to the fore! irrespective of the boards votes of confidence!

Opinion 2 - IN that position will be Ken McKenna - I'm sure it'll be debated to death, but I think he will play a style of football that I really think will see us have a chance in the BSN

Opinion 3 - GB didn't really add an awful lot when he came into the management team - however, he could still assist in some capacity

Opion 4 - If we now accept that the players we have are not good enough for the BSP (although since New Years day, I think we've competed well!) then we must keep a shell of a team - including Coburn, Young,Lane, Senior & Little (Loan players excluded for obvious reasons) - others can compete and do well - Peyton, Lawton, O'neill?

Opinion 5 - We should clear the dead wood from the team and start afresh - Aspinall, Sedgemore etc, etc

Opinion 6 - As a GREAT non-league team, we must now invest in some players that can get us promoted immediately - admitidely this may be difficult, but surely a club of our stature and integrity can attract players to our club, that will allow us a chance to bounce back?

Opinion 7 - The chairman is now where he wants to be uote "We want to be a big fish in a small pond not a small fish in a big pond - bottom line is the BSN is probably a harder league to get out of than surviving in the BSP - So what's he going to do??? pull the blindfold over his eyes and pretend everything is OK? He doesn't see most of our games, so reality check - Understand what's going on!!!

Opinion 8 - Our support will diminish - undoubtedly, however, given our turn out to away games as far as weymouth, do not be in doubt that we'll support our team week in week out, whatever league we are in!

Opinion 9 - We still believe, we still support, we still are one, We ARE ALTY AND ALWAYS WILL BE, I AM PROUD OF THE LADS AS I'M SURE EVERYONE ELSE IS - AND WE ALWAYS WILL BE FOR YEARS TO COME.

Hard luck today, at least we were positive, don't be too dis-heartened, there's always the AGM.

FOREVER ALTY!!!!!!!!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Whats the "more" news to follow later today??
« on: January 06, 2008, 01:59:44 PM »
Anybody got any idea what the further news to follow today is (as per John Laidlars comments on the main site)

Is it the outcome of GH's meeting with Geoff Goodwin?

Are there more new players to come in?
