Altrincham FC First Team / Boreham Wood home match on Jan 28th
« on: January 17, 2023, 12:25:46 PM »
Boreham Wood's cup replay at Accrington tonight has been called off and it's not obvious when it'll be rearranged for - both teams have scheduled fixtures on Saturday and midweek next week. So I fear it may be played on R4 day, which is Saturday 28th when we're due to be at home to BW. Accrington don't have a game that day currently.

Altrincham FC First Team / Torquay on a Tuesday
« on: January 20, 2021, 12:18:33 PM »
With Torquay winning their Trophy tie last night, I think that means our game at theirs on Feb 6th will be postponed and we'll have to go there on a Tuesday. What a joy.

It also means that, after this weekend, we currently have the following two Saturdays free. I hope we can arrange fixtures for one or both of them - we shouldn't be short of options .

Altrincham FC First Team / Trivia question

Was this the first time we've ever worn three different kits at the same ground in a single season? Must be, surely.

Does anyone think this might get moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, now we’re playing on the Sunday before?

Altrincham FC First Team / Emailing Grahame Rowley
« on: April 04, 2017, 12:04:40 PM »
Like many of you I imagine, last night I received an email from Grahame Rowley asking me to join the patrons scheme again. I have no intention of doing so while GR is still at the helm, so my first thought was just to delete the email. But then I decided to reply to it and tell him what I was doing and why.

It occurs to me that this might be a very good thing for every Alty fan who would like GR to stand down to do. I don't imagine he reads the forum anymore so it may be that he simply doesn't know the extent of the dissatisfaction with him. Perhaps he does genuinely think there are only 29 of us? So I would encourage everyone who wants GR to stand down to send him an email to that effect. Make sure it's polite and respectful. Tell him who you are and how long you've been a supporter. It doesn't need to be long or to go into every gory detail of the last year and a half but it should be sincere and heartfelt and clear in what you'll do or not do if he stays and how that would change if he goes.

If every fan who's previously been a Patron but isn't going to be this time, or who's quietly slipped away and doesn't intend to return, or who's still going but their heart's no longer in it, told GR how they're feeling, it might just make the difference.

Altrincham FC First Team / New left back

ALTY SIGN LEFT-BACK McWILLIAMS

Altrincham's joint Press and Media officer John Edwards writes: Jim Harvey has bolstered the left side of his defence at an opportune moment by signing 26-year old full-back Andy McWilliams from Bradford Park Avenue, subject to FA clearance.
The Altrincham manager has moved swiftly to fill the gap left by on-loan left-back Josh Doherty's return to his parent club Leyton Orient by snapping up McWilliams in time for Saturday's Vanarama National League North game against AFC Telford United at The J.Davidson Stadium.

McWilliams, who turns 27 on November 5, is available for the visit of Telford and could even face his former club three days later, when Bradford make the trip to The J.Davidson. In an additional boost to Alty's hopes of maintaining their recent revival, he is not Cup-tied and will be available for the FA Cup First Round tie at Lincoln City on his 27th birthday. He was on the bench for the Second Qualifying Round tie with Fylde, but did not appear, as Bradford went out 1-0.

Described as a pacey left-back who can also operate on the left of midfield, McWilliams graduated from York City's youth system and made 26 first-team appearances before going on to play for Guiseley, Stalybridge, Barrow, Harrogate and Bradford. He is well known to Harvey, who is confident he will make a favourable impression and help Alty continue an upturn in fortunes that has included a welcome league win at Stalybridge and three straight Cup victories".

Altrincham FC First Team / Matlock or Workington at home

After that period a while back where we had a stack of away draws in a row, it's going the other way for us now. A great opportunity to make it to the first round proper.

Altrincham FC First Team / Michael Rankine to sign

Seems like a very good signing to me, he'll certainly offer something we don't have. Excellent interview with him on the main site as well. Welcome to Alty.

Altrincham FC First Team / Alty in the national press

But not to do with yesterday - a very interesting editorial piece in The Observer about the lack of a points deduction for Sunderland for fielding an ineligible player and comparing this to other cases, particularly ours. Includes a lengthy interview with a typically dignified and heartfelt Geoff Goodwin. Good piece, although it includes an embarrassing error about Oxford City.
