Altrincham FC First Team / Who am I missing from this list?
« on: March 08, 2022, 11:19:44 AM »
A conversation yesterday about the number of ex-league teams in our league made me think - how many of the teams who were in the league in 1987 (?) when automatic promotion was introduced have lost their place and who has replaced them?

In no particular order I think 15 have lost their place:

Wrexham, Southend, Notts county, Chesterfield, Torquay, Aldershot, Halifax, Grimsby, Stockport, Chester, Darlington, Hereford, York, Maidstone and Bury

But I can only think of 14 replacements:
Wycombe, Burton, Crawley, Stevenage, Morecambe, AFC Wimbledon, Accrington Stanley, Harrogate, Sutton, Fleetwood, Salford, Cheltenham, Barrow and FGR

Who am I missing or have I got an extra one in the first list?

                         TT

White.       Toby.     Digie.       Hampson

             Whitehead.    Kirby

Mooney.             Kosylo.               Colclough

                     Diananga

And room for AJ on the bench.

That is one hell of an injury list!

Altrincham FC First Team / Not the longest of memories

Is it just me that finds the Football League and its clubs bleating a out the unfairness of a closed shop just a little bit hard to take. It’s not like it’s beyond living memory that they used to run one!

We can nearly hear the commentary. Effects mic is so much louder than commentary. Summariser is a bit better than main commentary

Altrincham FC First Team / How great Alty art
« on: June 08, 2020, 05:48:59 PM »
I love this hymn and feel slightly guilty about what I've done to it below, but it is a superb tune to really belt out (I'm sure we could manage without the drums from this you tube version).  It might work better with the old language retained but I've changed it to more modern language for the footy version.

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
O Altrincham, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made
Consider all the goals that we have scored
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
I see the stars, I hear the Golf Road ro-ar
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
The teams throughout the years that we have played

[Refrain]
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
Then sings Golf Road, our Altrincham, to you
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
How great you are, how great you are
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
Then sings Golf Road, our Alty team, to you
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
How great you are, how great you are

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander
When Northwich Vics, and Forest Green we hammer
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
And beat league teams so often in the cup
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
When we look down, from on the pop’lar terrace
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze
And beat the Macc, and see the winning goal

[Refrain] Then sings Golf Road……

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing
And when I think, that we, the cash not spending
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
Ask them to join, I scare can take it in
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing
That on the pitch, our shirt so proudly wearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
They run and run to make sure that we win
[Refrain] Then sings Golf Road……

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation
When Parky comes, his team with great ambition
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
And takes us up, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
Then shall we sing, in tuneless adoration
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
And then proclaim: “Alty, how great you are!”

[Refrain] Then sings Golf Road……
