Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Halifax (A) Match Thread
« on: December 13, 2023, 12:38:50 AM »
Got back about an hour ago.  Not the best game of football but, God, that was a sweet way to end it.  Notwithstanding the red (probably the correct decision from what I saw) the ref and liner had an absolute shocker.  Disappointed in Dackers, who seemed to lack any desire to win possession, or to retain it on the rare occasions he had the ball.  At least Dior ran about and made a nuisance of himself.  Still, all that doesn't matter given the result.  Well done to those who travelled, not too bad for a rearranged fixture, particularly when Utd were on the box.

I've not kept abreast of the severity of the weather, so are we sure that the match will be on tomorrow?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Rochdale Match Thread
« on: November 22, 2023, 08:20:41 AM »
Work commitments meant that I was unable to go last night but having reminded myself of the shambolic injustice when Rochdale kept us out of the football league, I'm glad I didn't pay the scandalous £24 to watch what was, but all account, a very poor Alty performance.

I think that our league position maybe flatters us a bit and now teams around us are starting to show a bit of form, I'm less sure of where we will end up at he end of the season - I'd be delighted with a play-off stop.

No use crying though, and a big response is needed this weekend to galvanise and bring back a bit of confidence to the squad.  Onwards.

Great game to watch and two relatively evenly matched teams.  Superb effort to bring such a large away support, credit to them.

Worthy of a mention too, is the steward who was positioned behind the goal at the GR end.  I thought he dealt with the need to move our younger supporters away from the fence sensibly and with good humour.  I spoke to him at the end to thank him but if you're reading this, Bill, it might be worth passing on a bit of positive feedback to his boss.

I'm working this evening otherwise I would be there (fresh air being good for you if nothing else).

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Goal Scorers
« on: September 01, 2023, 10:36:03 PM »
It should be noted that Wrexham won promotion last season with Paul Mullin scoring 80 goals in 92 matches in the two seasons he was with them.

Likewise, Langstaffe at Notts County, the other successful promotees, scored 44 goals in 50 matches. These are the sort of statistics that we are going to need to produce if we are to be serious contenders for promotion.  Can we do it?

The league seems far more open this season, and I can't see the dominance of Wrexham/Notts being such a factor this year.

I've yet to visit a new ground that I've thought was better than ML and therefore presented itself as a model to work towards.  Without exception they seem to me to be soulless.

I think we generally perform well against them.  Certainly hope that we don't put them on a pedestal and that we go for the win.

Going+1.  Looking forward to it.  After our first home performance and the win at Woking, I'm uncharacteristically/ridiculously optimistic.  Be great to come away with a win.....momentum breeds success.  #coyr

Altrincham FC First Team / Stewarding
« on: August 11, 2023, 12:08:13 PM »
I wonder whether the return to 'light-touch' stewarding seen at the D&R match last week, will be repeated for the remainder of the season?  Obviously, for teams that bring a large cohort we will need to steward accordingly, but I felt the reduced policing last week, was appropriate and proportionate.

I tend to be very choosey where pies are concerned, however, I was at the Mac game last week and can confirm that their offering was excellent.  To that and, a quick search of quality producers resulted in The Great North Pie Co. who already have an association with Altrincham Market and are, I believe, already served at Stockport County.  Perhaps they'd make an appropriate addition to the fan zone.

This could be a welcome addition and, as someone else said in a different post, may help Byrne and Gould to grow in stature also.

Returned yesterday from what was both an excellent and enjoyable trip to Nijmegen to watch Alty's first foray into Europe.  Make no mistake this was a really momentous day in the history of Alty and credit is due to those who organised it and, in particular, to the large number of travelling Alty fans who made the trip.  While the scoreline might point to a disappointing afternoon, this was about far more than just football (Nijmegen put out a team full of quality players and so naturally dominated the play) and those who were there will remember this as being a real adventure and a notable landmark in the journey the Club is on.  Well done all.

Altrincham FC First Team / Questions
« on: July 03, 2023, 04:40:33 PM »
A couple of questions:

1) Who do I contact about hospitality at the Club and what is the cost approx?  Son has a significant birthday approaching and I'm considering booking for a date in late August for about 10.

2) Does the ST discount t apply if Im ordering a beach towel?  If so, what code do I use?

Thanks in advance.
