After seeing the likes of Oldham, Rochdale, Gateshead all start well - in addition to the current top three - it looked like the playoffs this season would be more of a closed shop.

Fast forward a couple of months and it looks as if everyone aside from the top three (much like last year) can still be reeled in.

I'd be surprised if Oldham and Gateshead drop off sufficiently not to make it, so I reckon it's two of ourselves, Halifax and Rochdale - with one missing out.

Could really do with extending the gap between us and the rest like we eneded up doing last season.

Oldham and Gateshead have sat in 4th and 5th for pretty much the whole season - 4 points from these two away fixtures is a fantastic return - especially given that it could easily have been 6 - and we stand a great chance of reeling both of those in and aiming for the 4th place finish we managed to nail down last year.

Still lots of football to play, and there will be an inevitable downturn of form - but we're looking quitr solid and consistent which is all we can ask for at this stage really.

Another tough away trip this week - avoid defeat and I'll be happy.

I think threads like this just end up looking silly because every goalkeeper across every level has those howlers in them - the fact he got his out of the way first game might end up being the best thing that's happened to him.

It also looked coachable - I genuinely think he'd started thinking about his next action with the ball and experience tells you to focus purely on the catch in wet conditions. There's clearly huge potential there, otherwise Norwich wouldn't think so highly of him.

I'm really chuffed for him - even the opposition fans acknowledged that he'd kept us in the game.

Could be the start of something great.

It definitely should be Caleb again.

He'll want to put the other night behijd him as quickly as possible, so we shoild give him the chance of doing that.

I don't think we should be writing the lad off just yet - if anything, it's good to get one of them out of the way first game!

Usually you can tell when a young goalkeeper is way off it - but he seemed to have good presence, he has a good frame - and a fairly healthy kick.

My suspicion (GK experts correct me) is that he was thinking one step ahead re: where he was going to distribute, and he moved his hands slightly.

Experience will bring the muscle memory that wet conditions = just focus on the catch. Nothing else.

I honestly don't think it's just us that suffer with injuries - I know Oldham were crying that they had plenty.

Just part of the game, look at Spurs in the Prem and also the likes of Liverpool, City, United previously.

The fixture volume is the obvious culprit - at ALL levels.

Well. We are trousering some decent wonga from this competition at least. Believe that?s another 15k whether we win or lose in the next round. Far more than the FA put into the Trophy pot. Our midweeks between now & the end of the season look increasingly hectic.

Seems guaranteed to be Newcastle given the format of the draw - much more interesting playing Prem U21's than other teams at this level I suppose.

My guess is that the game will have to be played pretty quickly - I think the QF's were scheduled to have already been played, but I'm guessing postponements have pushed it back.

Assuming it's played fairly soonish, I'm sure it'll continue to be useful to give players minutes - Eddy Jones, Jake Cooper, Kian Taylor, Regan Griffiths, Justin Amaluzor, Ollie Crankshaw, Jake Bickerstaff, plus possibly get one game of Matty Kosylo's suspension out of the way too.

Kacper Pasiek was on Preston's bench last night, so I assume that means he's gone back permanently and maybe Eddy is nearing fitness (or Preston recalled him themselves).

Positives:

- Alex Newby's in the form of his life
- You know Regan's scored as soon as he shapes up
- Much better from Justin, he was a handful for them
- We picked up a result whilst resting the two main men
- incredible tactical booking from Jake Cooper late on ;)
- Halifax got beat
- We've somehow managed to go through to the next round of the Tinpot cup thing  ;D

Negatives:

- tough lesson for the two young lads - Olson sold by the wiliness of Norwood, and the keeper's had a shocker
- we stopped playing far too early, which is a shame because we looked dangerous whenever we went forward
- Bickerstaff really needs to give us a bit more

Ollie Crankshaw..moments of brilliance...but probably best draw a line under this economilly disastrous signing

Yeah, I think I've inadvertently listed them in order of priority to be honest - Banks is a no brainer, Wilson we just need to be mindful of his injury record but we should give him the benefit of the doubt, similarly Justin still has a great chance to get back to his best - whereas Crankshaw has just never got started.

Fantastic news - hopefully this will put to bed the fears from some quarters that he'll be 'another James Berry' - the plan for him is on track, and I'm convinced he'll be a big player for us moving forwards.

Who else do we need to tie down at the moment? The only ones I'm fairly sure will be out of contract are Lewis Banks, George Wilson, Justin Amaluzor and Ollie Crankshaw - although I'm working on the assumption that Ethan Ross and Alex Newby were 2.5 year deals, and there might be some 1 year deals from this season too - I'm guessing Lucas Weaver might have been one of them.

You're all being daft. And disrespectful. Louis Fallon should be in nets. He's Alty's goalie. Deserves his chance. He'll be allright.

I understand your sentiment, but the lad's young and he had a pretty torrid time against United's lads earlier this season.

Following that kind of logic, we'd never bring in a loanee at all - there's always a lad in the youth team.

We still hold lofty ambitions this season, so let's see what the club does - if they back Fallon then so will we.

We all saw what happened when we lost Ethan last season.

The club needs to be as ambitious as possible with this piece of interim recruitment. I'm sure they're already looking at it.

Elyh Harrison would be fantastic if we can make it happen - but I noticed he actually featured on the bench for the first team recently against Palace.

I think he might be out of our reach - here's the U21 report from the other night:

I guess we have to talk about it, as it's clear Ethan will be out - the big question is simply for how long.

On one of the threads I suggested Elliot Justham given that he's left Dagenham - but it might be logistically difficult to get him up here, even on a short term deal.

The other big shout I'd make isn't Dermot Mee (as another suggested) - it's another one of United's goalkeepers, Elyh Harrison.

Harrison was apparently exceptional on loan for Chester - much like Harry Tyrer had been for them previously, who Everton now have out in League One with Blackpool (having won this league with Chesterfield).

A lot depends on whether United have bigger plans for him, but there can't be too many other EFL clubs in for goalkeeper right now.

The highlights are always a good reflection after the game, I'm sure I speak for everyone in appreciating those that put the package together.

Alex Newby is growing in stature all the time for us, and I'd say Tylor Golden as an attacking outlet too - shame his ferocious shot was met with such a fantastic save.

Obviously the most worrying thing for us at the moment is Ethan's injury - it absolutely didn't look good, and I just hope it isn't a season ender.
