Title: Craney - Done Deal
Post by: ioko on January 09, 2007, 12:37:42 PM

Craney completes Swansea switch

Craney impressed after a month on loan at Swansea
Swansea City have signed Ian Craney from Accrington Stanley for a fee of around £150,000.
The 24-year-old midfielder joined the Swans on a month's loan at the end of November and played in all but one of Swansea's games during that period.

Swansea triggered a clause in Craney's contract allowing them to speak to the former England non-league international after lodging a suitable bid.

Craney has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.

He played a key role in Accrington's Conference title success last season and has scored six times in League Two this season.

I believe this is good news for us. Fingers crossed.

Yes, this will be very good news for us.

Imight have said this before but I can't believe they sold their only two decent players and, after unpteem games without a win and a plummet down the table following that questionable move, seem not to have a Plan B.

PS: Or are they looking at this season in the same way as Watford?

I believe Craney had to go due to a clause in his contract so I don't think they had a choice.  Same maybe with Roberts.

As for them doing a Watford, they've got one of the lowest average gates so far, they've had the lowest gate all season - and they've already played Bury and Rochdale.  If they come back down they'll hardly be stronger for it financially.

I think what I meant by "doing a Watford" was looking on the promotion as an adventure but not one which could be realistically sustained except by a lot of inward movement in the transfer market which they could not afford.
Best case scenario for both clubs would be that team spirit would keep them up.

Sorry, misunderstood your point.  My personal view is that Accrington have failed twice already to support a league side, I can't honestly see how what they're doing now will be sustained again in the long run.
