Title: Saturday (tomo) v Rushden and Diamonds
Post by: gazwarrington on January 05, 2007, 11:13:24 AM
Could really do with actualy beating Rushden as everyone else seems to do rather than making them look good, like we have in the previous meetings this season.

3-0 in the league but can't help but think that game was affected by the loss of Bushell and an offiside goal that we never recovered from and got worse and a 3-0 in the cup, no excuses for that just a VERY poor perfomance.

Be nice to pay them back for the FA Cup defeat and continue our little unbeaten run.

IF (big if) we could beat Rushden then that means we would be 6 points ahead of them and go 9 points clear of Tamworth , with them playing in the FA Cup.

COME ON EVERYONE GET BEHIND THE TEAM.
TREAT EVERY GAME LIKE NORTHWICH VICS - GET BEHIND EVERY PLAYER FOR ANOTHER IMPORTANT FIXTURE (as they all are I suppose)

let's hope we can pay them back, the lads should need little motivation?

I will behind the team as usual.  :D :D

Come on you Robins.

Its a 1-1 draw for me against a very useful looking Rushden sign with pace and power.

And then a big debate about the fact we realy should be beating teams like full time £20,000 a week Rushden and Diamonds for fun.

They do seem to be signing players for fun, as predicted.

This is where clubs like Rushden and Cambridge will get out of trouble. There definition of "Having no money" and ours are totally different

Well, seeing as R&D are 3rd from bottom, we *should* be beating them (at home especially) in my opinion. They're not down there because they're brilliant.

They are down there becuase they used to have a sh*t manager.  They now haven't.

When you say fourth from bottom it doesn't tell the whole story. You are really talking about a Full time club that are only 3 points behind us (with a game in hand) who have beaten us twice (and easily ) already this season. We both have only won 6 game also.

I can now see where Ecky got the draw idea from, although there has never been a league draw between the two clubs.

Boring Stat time
Altrincham v Rushden In The League

Played 5
Altrincham won 1
Rushden 4

I love stats like 'Haven't beaten them in 10years" when infact we have only played them 4 times since then in the league :)

we *should* be beating them

I think we've all give other teams a good lesson in not saying versions of that in the last few years! ;)
Due to the new management - and money - at R&D, I can see them improving very rapidly indeed in the coming weeks.
I just hope we can get three points off them this weekend before they build up too much of a head of steam - but it's going to need a Northwich-esque attitude from the lads. I'm sure they can do it if we all get behind them again!

PS: Into my 3rd day as a non-smoker after 38 years on the weed so the last thing I need is a tense 90 minutes. It would be a great help if the lads could get two or three early on to calm me down! Ta

PPS: If anyone's got any sensible and non-sarcastic, constructive advice re the non-smoking business, I'd be grateful.

Totally, agree.  When push comes to shove they'll find the cashflow to get these extra players, regardless of their debts.  The ones ending up near the bottom in May will be the part time (or supposedly full time) clubs with a 1,000 or so average gate.  Sad but true.

What do we think on the crowd front tomorrow? How many will they bring. Was annoyed v FGR as, although they brought 9, the 900 ish crowd was low after the great turnout on Boxing Day considering the perforamnce.

Boxing Day        2330 - 500 Vics = 1830 "home" supporters
FGR                    900 - 9 = 891 "home" supporters

Crowd tomorrow will be around the 1250 mark ::)

Four new players at the same time doesn't usually work in the short term. The fact they have had to bring these players in suggests they weren't entirely happy with the lads they have already. Better to play them now than in a few weeks and a win is not totally out of the question as some would have us believe. I think a gate of 1250 would be very good indeed.

To be honest, a lot of locals probably came because it was Northwich and a local derby. FGR was never going to have the same pull.  Also, if we'd played FGR on the Boxing Day and Northwich on the Saturday, then I'd take a guess that the 912 would have been higher and the 2,330 would have been lower.

I'll go for 1,071 tomorrow!

I completely agree that we shouldn't underestimate them, and I don't think it will be easy, but if we play positively like we know we can and maybe get an early goal, I think we can do it.

Positive thinking!   ;D

On saying that, attendance-wise I'm thinking we'll be looking at late 900's ;)

I reckon we'll break the 1,100, as long as Rushden bring 100 , which with there home support you would hope they would but you never know.

Can anyone confirm?  ;)

NOT TRUE. I was most defintley NOT doing any such thing. >:(

although I did break a rule and sang "can we play you every week" not a fan of that song as it would be a very boring league indeed.

Certainly NO easy chants done by myself.

I saw Gary storming through Alty with a big drum and a jester hat, it just gets worse for the lad.

What about a giant foam hand?  :o

I put a foam hand on after I put the drum in the "Drum Room" at the Bridge.
It had "Alty #1" on it and I waved my hand for hours and hours.
