Title: Colin Retires...
Post by: RocketDan on September 24, 2009, 11:00:47 AM
... from the debate surrounding his retirement.

Speaking to the club's official website, the Alty manager said: 'I have seen one or two posts on the fans' website, suggesting Colin may be contemplating calling it a day, but, let me assure you, nothing could be further from the truth. 'I know it's not the norm for him to be sidelined for so long, but he's not immune to injury, unfortunately. It is the first he's had for a while, but the fact is he jarred his knee against Chester, and it has taken some time to settle down. 'But let me underline, again, there is no question of him quitting. The time scale has been frustrating, but he has no intention of finishing. His appetite for playing is as keen as ever, and he can't wait to get back. One thing we have never done at this club, and never will, is rush players back. It's not fair on the player to do that, and it can be counter-productive, because they can end up in a worse state than ever.

Good clarification from the club................but it really should not have been needed. Whoever started the rumour has not been very helpful to us.

I know it is a forum and hence subject to speculation at times, but rumours should always be accompanied with a few disclaimers and known facts where possible

Rumours and speculation will start and spread be it here or down the pub.

I'm pleased to hear the clarification from the club....the young lad little shows promise and will hopefully regain fitness and realise his true potential.

Great news, Colin is still the best finisher at the club. Also good to see the club come out and confirm the situation.

I'd be astounded if management and players who care didn't read this. Certainly on the management side I'd regard the forum as an advice line, to be taken with a pinch or adhered to as required, but not to be disregarded  completely. It just gives an opinion outside of the dressing room.

AND WHY DOES EVERYBODY HAVE TO COME BACK TO DEFEND A CORNER. After all, we are NOT Manchester United, upon whom you base your thinking.

I think Phil is more thinking of more penetrative corners of our own.

Absolutely right JD. Our corners are now so futile as to have become an advantage to our opponents.

Upon receipt of our 3rd corner the other night my brother asked...."now which central defender is going to clear this one?"
And I realised instead of giving us a corner the ref could save time and just give them a goal kick or something.

Oh for those bomber flick ons or mad-dog/talbs bullet headers/overhead kicks.

If we are talking about Man U corners, how about the one that goes to someones rocket right foot on the volley just outside the penalty area and flies into the top corner of the net move.

We may need to buy Paul Scholes mind!
