Title: You don't need an Oxford degree to see how pointless this is
Post by: NauticaPete on August 25, 2009, 01:05:00 AM

From main Alty site:

Oxford United have announced as usual that for our game at their ground (31st October) "Tickets are cheaper if brought before the day. The prices in the North stand (along the side of the pitch) where your fans will sit are as follows:
Adults: £15 (£17 on the day)
Students with NUS Card: £11.50 (£13 on the day)
Over 65: £9.00 (£10 on the day)
Under 16: £9.00 (£10 on the day)
Under 7: FREE (FREE on the day)

Tickets can be bought in advance from Oxford by ringing 01865 337533 or from the website but a booking fee of £2.00 for posting and £1.50 collection is added per booking.  ???

So where is the the incentive to get tickets early?
Maybe you can reserve an under 7s ticket and then get it delivered for  s quid as well

If you buy 2 adult tickets, you save £4 on the ticket price and pay out £2 for the delivery charge, giving you a net saving of £2.

Plus 1.50 'collection' fee means you save a whopping 50p.

With savings like this it will be boom time again by Christmas guaranteed.

Can alty not just buy a job lot of tickets off them (say 80) and then sell them at the club for 14 or 15 quid.

Then it represents value and confirms some away support.

So these tickets that you've paid a £2 postage fee for, and which you've already got in your hand, you'd pay another £1.50 to collect them from Oxford's ticket office  ???

Regarding the club buying 80 tickets.....erm what if they can't sell them all?

This isn't the first time we've played Oxford. They've always been relatively expensive and have always charged booking fees. If you don't like it, don't go.

I thought of that as an idea too. The best way (if this could happen) would be for someone who wants to go to put their name down on a list, hand in the money (however much it would be) and then the club could, after knowing how many people, how much money etc, purchase the right amount of tickets.

why should oxford make away fans pay more for paying on the actual day
?
what is the difference to them between paying on the day or in advance -  other than an opportunity to squeeze more cash out of fans for their half-built white elephant stadium?

I presume its more to do with encouraging peopleto buy in advance so they have more ideas of numbers that may be there, so they can have enough things like programmes without having to throw loads away, or if a team looks like they'll bring a massive away following they can arrange more stewards, etc.

Ok, 50? thats why i said 80 actually. Could we not package it with the coach as well then to get the numbers up. f**k it, who cares its an away game anyway, not money in our pocket.

I can confirm my attendance for this fixture via cardiff where i'll be staying for the weekend with another exiled alty fan. Id rather it was a home game so i can spend money with the club so i will make a donation to a trustworthy soul at the match.

Ive bought a shirt this year for the first time in ages. Its quite something the feedback you get off people for supporting alty. I think i'll have to get an OGCNice alty flag done up for the trip.
