Title: A few gems for the dressing room wall on saturday
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on August 20, 2009, 09:06:06 AM
From AFCW messageboard

"I would love to go to Altrincham. I spent 2 hours on the net on Sunday looking at every route possible and the cheapest I could get the train from Cambridge was £69. I can't justify paying that for a game against a crap team."

"we'll have 450 or so there and they'll have 600 so the crowd won't be a lot over 1000"

"Alty may be 2nd but they have only played Histon, Hayes, Ebbsfleet and Barrow so it could be argued they had an easy start (3 of the bottom 6)!

I'll add accordingly during the week.....

Unfortunate phrase, but clearly they mean it's not a Luton/Oxford type fixture. I wouldn't get a bee in our bonnet about that.

As for pointing to our fixtures, they're right. Don't get me wrong, the lads have done brilliantly to get 10 points. I'd have said 5 points would have been about par. However, if ever there was a run of games to get off to a good start this was it.

Just out of interest, what's the address for their message board?

Well if the Oxygen thief thinks wer'e that sh*t then £69 to watch his beloved team beat us would be money well spent in my eyes.

Welcome to the BSP you toss pot.

What the hell is that??

Has to be the worst, most overly-fancy and confusing fans site on the web.

Rubbish.

What our Southern friends fail to realise is that, after just a few games, the fact we beat the teams at the bottom largely contributes to them being there !!!! It's like saying "Arsenal are a flash in the pan. They only beat Everton who are bottom of the league".

Took the words out of my mouth.  I think their run by a supporters trust so I take comfort from the fact they will have to call a meeting to buy a postage stamp.

I don't think our team needs any additional motivation to be honest. We'll just quietly go about our business as we've done up to now and let Wimbledon worry about coping with us.

I'm looking forward to the game, my first home fixture of the season - come on the Robins!!  ;D

I hope Dino doesn't see this - you may have to explain your absence from the other home games. Shame on you.

Am I right in thinking that the six forward and midfield players have now scored goals? Obviously the back four need to try harder!

We have played teams in the bottom few places because we have beaten them. How stupid can anyone be not to know that a defeat after 3 or 4 games WILL put you in the middle or lower part of the table - FACT.

Whilst it's true that we could have had tougher starts, we have won away at Barrow and beaten Histon at home. I guarantee there will be a few sides who don't manage that and would be absolutely delighted if they did. I notice Stevenage for example didn't win at Holker Street.

Nor did Stevenage win at Hayes & Yeading.

And until they replace Steve Morison, they won't win many !

I was disappointed at that post to be honest referring to us as a "crap" club. I have a lot of sympathy for AFCW, the way they lost their club and admiration at how they started again. I am also looking forward to seeing them on Saturday. We may not be the best club in the league, but we have fought against the odds to stay in the league and deserve a little more respect I think.

And I agree with the other posts - their fans forum is pretty poor. Quite crap in fact  ;D

I guess it was a bit of an oversight to say crap when he probably meant 'lesser' teams in the league, which I think is obvious in terms of other clubs like Oxford/Luton/Camebridge/Mansfield.

We are happy in this league and they are not, that clearly makes them big clubs, and of course they have every right to be top of the league but no right to be below 4th.

We need to accept the clubs that take this attitude, AFCW included, because every season we take points of them when they play naively like a bunch of prima donna's who can just turn up and win. So its to our benefit, and long may it last.

I've been reading this with some interest and have to say I really don't know what people are getting so excited about.

Yeah, they've posted something moderately disrespectful on THEIR forum or rather one of their number has.

I'm sure that if we look on this wonderful forum we will see that a few of our members have been somewhat less than glowing about, for example, Northwich, Forest Green, Lewes, Hayes & Yeading, Crawley etc.

I say just let them perpetuate their somewhat misinformed opinions - we know what we are and what we can do and that should be enough
