Sat. 11 July (3pm): Abbey Hey (away)
Sat. 18 July (3pm): Colwyn Bay (away)
Tue. 21 July (7.45pm): Northwich Vics (away)
Sat. 25 July (3pm): Bolton Wanderers XI (home)
Tue. 28 July (7.45pm): Macclesfield Town XI (home)
Sat. 4 Aug (3pm): Manchester United XI (home)

Northwich, Macclesfield and Manchester United - next it will be FSCUM.

On the plus side we should get some people through the turnstiles for the two home ones and also Bolton.

Hang on, I thought we were all supposed to be excited because United aren't on tour and would be playing some first-teamers.

The name Manchester United XI suggests it'll be a team full of people we've never heard about.

There will be first teamers playing..however it is much safer to put XI...it won't be the full first team

Macclesfield XI. Who do they think they are. They are only 1 division above us surely they could send the first team.

Gotcha. Why is it safer? Do people demand their money back if they don't get to see all the players they'd like??

How about the Bolton XI? Any word on whether they'll put out a strong side?

In the past we used to advertise it as Manchester United.

People would then come to see Ronaldo and Rooney and be furious that little Jonny did not see either of them, just some kids.

This year is the first year that it is possible that there are some first teamers...as they are in the country and no playing a Toyota XI for a large cup.

Judging by how sh*t Macc's first eleven are, I'd love to see some of the second eleven

I know it's good to play local teams of a similar standard but should we really play our rivals in friendlies. I mean would you ever see Liverpool play Man utd in a pre-season friendly, just think it's a bit strange and might take the uniqueness out of the derby experience

To be fair we won't be playing either of them next season so those games will be pretty unique. Should encourage a few more fans  to come along and generate a bit of extra wonga too.

i know it may sound negative but i am entikled to my opinion. i feel it detracts from the real dislike of both teams by playing them in a friendly . there is nothing friendly about either team and that is the way it should stay. i for one will vote with feet and will not be attending either fixture. however if we change our name to Altrincham X1 for the vics fixture it would be suitably condescending and may amuse me enough to fly 5,000 miles(again) to watch us beat them (again). W e need to play hearts of Oak
away in a friendly

To be fair recently Nottingham Forest play Derby a friendly (each year???) in the Brian Clough charity cup thingy.

I'm sure their fans will tell you that game is anything but friendly.

Glad to see were playing abbey hey as i thought GH said that we wouldnt be playing them during the fans forum. All nice local games, and a seaside visit thrown in. Unfortunately with me holidaying at the end of july, looks like i wont be able to make most of them (again).

Hopefully united will bring a good side, we will be able to market it properly and get some much needed finance into the club.

Exactly. With a few guaranteed first teamers I can't see why it wouldn't be a really big crowd...

From official site

FRIENDLY
Trafford FC have announced that the pre-season friendly against Altrincham at Shawe View will be on Thursday 23 July at 7.45pm. A full list of the seven friendlies arranged to date is here

 :) :) :)

Also, it's not a bad idea in these financial times to have a few pre season friendlies where you think 'hey Macc/Vics, I think I'd like to see that', esp when you consider taht (in my view) we're unlikely to play them for at least 2 seasons.

Abbey Hey must be one of the easiest grounds in Manchester to get to by bus! Its just off Hyde Rd in Gorton and has a very frequent bus service.

For the rest of the world yes. For Andy it took him about 3 days last year.

Do we not seem to be playing a hell of alot of games in a very short time period?

I know the lads have to get fit before the season starts but with our thin squad the risk of injury in these games could rule a couple of players out before the season has started??

On a personal note .. Even if MUFC do send loads of kids to play us it is still good to see how good they are are controlling the ball. speed of passing and movement etc etc.. I am sure there will be a couple of "Names" in there as well.. Me and the Other half will be there whatever side they put out... I will be ready for one of Dawn's pies by then and a pint pulled by auntie Jen...

It's always good to throw the occasional bone to our less auspicious neighbours....  ;D

Only kidding. I'd guess it'll be a strong side. KA has said he wants to play clubs in the divisions above and below us because it gives a better test of the squad's ability. You don't learn much from losing to Manchester United or slaughtering Leek Town.

Should be interesting. Not played you since the cheshire senior Cup final in 2000 have we?

Should be interesting. Not played you since the cheshire senior Cup final in 2000 have we?

Incorrect.

On 15th January 2002, we beat the Milkmen 2-0 in a Cheshire Senior Cup Semi-Final at Moss Lane.

Anyhow, Silkyman, how many of your lot will be renewing their season tickets for another dose of Keith Alexander's much-maligned hoofball then?

I see that his latest signing is some 6ft 4 inch ogre from Lincoln, so it doesn't look like he'll be adopting the principles of total football at the Moss Rose next season...

Didn't I read somwhere that season tickets at Macclesfield are some of the most expensive in the Football League? It's a big ask when you're watching, well, mildly effective crap...

I'd forgotten about that one.

We've sold over 500 so far, which is about the same as last season. The back end of the season we actually played some nice football, but when people get something into their heads, they don't let it go. I heard people shouting 'hoof' at 30 yard passes along the ground!

According to Lincoln fans, Ben Wright's biggest strength is getting on the end of through-balls and isn't great in the air for a big lad. John Rooney can supply him with plenty of those. We'll see. And so, I suppose, will you!

Dunno where you got that from. We're at the lower end of the scale on ticket prices. Some people like Bradford sell ST's for £130, but they can do that when they are selling 12,000!

Not to mention it's only £50 for U16s and free for anyone under 12!

However if you divide the cost by the quality of football they are the most expensive in the league

LEAGUE won't be the operative word much longer.  So long as all the clubs start with nil points I safely predict you will struggle...as per normal.  You should start with -20 for your rather dodgy dealings re. finance for your ground.  There was something a bit smelly about that as I recall.

Macclesscumfield - another place that should be closed demolished.  Send in the B52s.
