For real= Hughsie...... Fantasy=Dennis Birch!!!

If this thread contains someone moaning about "we should do this with the PA" or "I think the PA is a joke, why do they always"..that person will be doing it tonight so start practising.
-
were sick of the low quality pa announcements so i vote hang the pa.
i could have sworn i saw you write this ecky? ;)
-
OUTRAGEOUS !!! ;D
-
It surely can't be that difficult to give a professional style announcement without electrocuting yourself can it?
Oh right.
My vote goes to kenny anyway.
-
Ecky and Rafo both did a great job on the PA. However, the true PA legend for me was Mark Harris.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Altrincham Football Club has just equalled the reocrd for the number of victories by a non league side over a league side. The record comes back to Moss Lane! Well done the Robins!"
And of course....
"Enjoy the match!"

I particularly remember....
March 1997
Altrincham...1 Hednesford United...1
Mark Harris, obviously not impressed by the amount of time added on by the referee and stressing the time:
"And equalising for Hednesford in the 96th minute...."
-
Totally agree.... Mark Harris will never be bettered

Just one of several awful moments during that season, which remain vividly etched in my memory. Anyone else who shares these memories knows what a great prize mid-table obscurity would be for us come May.
It still hurts now.

That late equaliser for hednesford is still one of my worst memories as an alty fan, i still cant work out how the refereee managed to add so many minutes on at the end!
rubbish!

We were sooooooo bad that season it was untrue. That was the year Macc obliterated us 4 love at Moss Lane, I assume Vics probably beat us twice at Christmas too. Beating Rushden 4-3 on the opening day was literally it for that season IIRC.
-
Maybe im wrong but were we not comfortably mid table until beating southport 3-1 (danny mcgoona's debut) at haig avenue around december time or am i thinking the wrong season?
did we not win another game until beating kettering either 3-2 or 4-3 late on in april with sammy ayorinde playing?
rushsen away on the last day was horrible, worse than barry hayles' winner on the penultimate against stevenage which doomed us.
Gus Wareing... discuss?
-
We were fairly well placed after the victory at Southport and there then followed a calamitous run of results which proved to be our undoing.
Rushden and Diamonds away on the last day was just totally surreal, more so because of the million to one chance that Macc would be sealing promotion just a few miles down the road at the same time.
Just awful!

To take your post in order.
1 & 2. Yes we were. We had something like 35 points after that game but I think only won twice more all season. We may have beaten BRomsgrive 3-1 at Moss Lane in January before we didn't win again til April (apart froma polishe dperformance at Farnboro in the Trophy.
3. It was but how cruel was that when you need to stay up "ooh look who's chasing after that long clearnace, oh it's Barry Hayles, wonder if he'll outpace Andy Brown and clinically T**t it into the far corner?"
4. The biggest prick and waste of space ever to play for Alty (just ahead of Mike Moore).
-
Eddie Bishop. When he was at Chester. He said over the tannoy "Come on ref open your eyes." When Chester should have had a penalty.

That woeful 4-0 home defeat against Macc was actually during the 1995/96 season (on the Saturday before we played Crewe in the FA Cup).
During our (first) relegation season of 1996/97, we lost at home to Macc 1-0 and drew 1-1 at the Moss Rose.
As regards Vics in 1996/97, we lost 3-2 at home to them and drew 2-2 at The Drill Field.

On Saturday, 28th December 1996, we defeated Bromsgrove Rovers at Moss Lane by three goals to one in the GM Vauxhall Conference.
We then didn't win another league match until a 4-3 thriller against Kettering Town at Moss Lane on Saturday, 26th April 1997.
Inbetween those two fixtures, we played 15 league games, winning none, drawing 5 and losing 10.
Horrendous days.
During that time, we did actually defeat both Gresley Rovers and Farnborough Town in the FA Trophy.....all of which led to a visit to Moss Lane by those affable chaps from Bishop Auckland....
