"ramshackle old ground" :o- rather ML or Vics then?

to be fair these 2 commentators don't seem quite as patronising as the usual ones - a few compliments about Dale Johnson, Andy Ralph and Alty attacking with pace

seems fairly even today and the lads are / have been told to get more shots in

Vics 1 down

"Attacking bench, 2 wingers and 2 strikers" - Peyton and Lane the new stikeforce? Why not?

they were fairly dismissive of our ground "doesn't look like anything has changed in 100 years apart from the graffitioutside"

Histon rugby 11 are 2-0 against hapless Oxford.

Fairly even here though.

Come on ALty

well the onion bag doth bulge and the natives get very excited. It's all about the climax, no matter how clumsy the foreplay.

I'm still having nightmares about the game against Histon, and my neck is still sore!!

Weirdly, apart from Barrow, every other home side in the BSP today is winning at half-time.

We're up to 11th on the Sky live table and Turkey are level with Woking.

Jennifer has been chuckling at Jeff Stelling!! I think she thinks he's good - and he hasn't even had his little James Brown out yet!

That's another great result and I'd have been happy with a draw before the game.

COME ON ALTY

I'm liking this top half of the table action.

Anybody know where we are in the league now?

Yet another superb result. To have beaten full-time Mansfield, Oxford, Ebbsfleet and Cambridge at home is a tremendous achievement.

Particularly pleased for Robbie Lawton. I'm sure he was hurting after Tuesday but sounds like he scored a great winner today.

To be fair both teams had there chances we just took one and they didnt.

Did not realise they were 4th going into today! They looked really average... Heathcote out  ::)

I know a lot of people may be surprise by today's result - I for one was not.

We have a great attacking trio in Little-Senior-Johnson/Elam and can cause problems for anyone.

Add that to a hard-working defence and midfield and the fact we are good at hitting teams on the break when forced to soak up pressure, and I think we can go far!

The only negative today was that there were under 900 home fans at the game. That's very disappointing!
Title: Re: Today's match thread
Post by: SW on November 22, 2008, 05:50:34 PM
Well yes agreed to a certain extent but 5 years ago there would be possibly under 600 home fans, money is tight, we played midweek, and if it is as cold there as it is here in Surrey that's another factor. Crowds are up again this year, its a slow but sure rise.
Title: Re: Today's match thread
Post by: gazwarrington on November 22, 2008, 06:07:32 PM
how things change to say only just under 900 home fans.... I remember when 900 was just a dream.

It's unbelievable really. I can recall practically no shots from 3 and a half hours of football against Luton and today I lost count! The second half in particular was brilliant and I'm sure even Mr. Vessey will admit that.

Great result and well deservered. Our back five (whoever has played) have been  the cornerstone to our position in the league.

Special mention to Mark McGregor who in my eyes is an absolute unsung hero.
Title: Re: Today's match thread

Cracking game today, especially the second half when Cambridge appear to have been given a bit of a team talk at half-time and upped their performance. Shame that Johnson didn't get any reward for his brace of chances in the second half. Also well done to Andy Ralph for keeping a clean sheet.

However, surprised that no-one has yet commented on the key action to this game - that of Mr Vessey's keepy-uppy at half time  ;). That said, I wouldn't be able to get to three even with a round ball let alone an inflatable square!!

Can the Racing Post keep tipping us to lose every week? Their pre-season tip on Alty to get relegated at 5/4 is great value isn't it? I presume their tipster hasn't seen us since we lost 3 nil at Stevenage 3 seasons ago. Their non-league tipping is embarrasing.
