Title: Chips and gravy...
Post by: Graham Bennetts Perm on July 21, 2008, 12:28:48 PM
A baptism of fire for the snack bar (I don't know what was going on in the toilet end, so I can't comment on that part), with superb chips and  blisteringly hot gravy, from which the roof of my mouth is still recovering...
My initial worry over the quality of the food, given the siting of the toilets in such close proximity, was thankfully misplaced.
However, the serving aperture needs to be opened fully to allow more to be served at once, so that the queues don't get too long. The potential for hungry spectators taking matters into their own hands, with ugly food fights developing is all too worrying.

let me give you a hint, if you want the queues down quicker volenteer and give keith a hand. you clearly don't have a clue about catering so stick to watching footy  ;)

And I've got an MSc in Queueing Theory, so let's not get involved in debating eachother's specialist subjects. Staffing levels are perfectly adeqate; my point was that it is merely the serving area that needs to be increased, to avoid all hell breaking loose.

Stoppers out!

Out of interest Mr Black, was there a written part to your NVQ or was it all practical?

I would also accuse James of being slightly hypocritical in warning of the hazards of playing FCUM but then ignoring the very real health and safety hazard potential presented by stoppers....we are talking potential carnage I suspect....one stopper could cause much more chaos than a couple of pi$$ed up FCUM fans I would suggest.

I'm still laughing at Keith asking for a building twice the size................

Does having two NVQs disqualify you from working at McDonalds on the basis of over qualification?

Keep up the stunning posts!

I also wish the Perm wouldn't lose his head when debating a sensible point with a fellow fan doing his best to put across salient and mature points...I've never seen such rudeness since George galloway was asked about the palestinian terrorirsts bombing Israel!

Can I say iam enlightened by a humerous thread, after all the mud slinging over the weekend.

It has to be on a parallel with the Aldershot 'can we all bang our drums in sync please' and the guy 'in the west stand bangs out of tune'

Gave me a chuckle whilst eating my tea  :)

Can we just not knock a few bricks out and make a bigger hatch  :)

We have already had it on good authority from an expert in catering, that the problem is one of unwelcome stoppers, not one of hatch sizing.

No sooner does the Club put up a new building, then someone on this forum is advocating partial demolition.

The campaign for the removal of the stoppers goes on, despite this inevitable sniping from the sceptics.

This made me laugh.

My wife stsrted working with food a year ago and has two NVQ's - they are about as hard to get as cycling proficiency and 10m swimming badge. I would say though that level 2 NVQ is well above the standard of the 25m badge though.

Congrats to Mr Black on your acheivement.

Ps which top restaurant do you work in then?

Chips and curry sauce walks all over C&G, but not the sappy stuff from basic chippies, either Chinese sauce or better. I worked for a while in Guide Bridge nr Hyde in the early 80's, there was an asian chippy that did plain curry, madras or vindaloo sauce on chips. Awesome.

There is a few know it alls on here who have dreams of being snack bar manager from what I can see.  They should get a life and stop being monumentally disrespectful to stoppers.

If only they had the necessary NVQ in Catering, this whole argument could then have been avoided. Why can't people see that a little education can bring about peace on the forum/snack bar.

I understand that the war in the Middle East was caused by an unsuspecting cafe owner not having an NVQ. Someone took exception to being sold a chip barm through a larger than average hatch!!

With respect Gazelle, its an unfair comparison on your Grade 2 listed stoppers and the new breed of Jonny comelately stoppers that have caused this whole mess.

Yorur stoppers have been stopping without issue for many a year, its the young stoppers we need to get a grip of now.

Oh I see..the stoppers backlash starts here does it?

Well, I'll have you know that since starting the Campaign for the Removal Of  Stoppers on the Snack bar (CROSS), I've had a monumental response, as it appears that this is a global problem. CROSS is now open to members (subject to terms and conditions) and we're now fast approaching 3 members already, AND I still have to hear from my 2nd cousin, who lives in Silesia.

CROSS has  been contacted by a plethora of organisations, all up in arms about the presence of these stoppers, and I'd like to thank them for their support. Except for British Stoppers Association who were incredibly rude, but who are well known to be a neo nazi fascist pro-stoppers organisation of the worst kind.

And could the lady who promised to give me a good seeing to with her stoppers please contact me again on my private email.

I believe the new young variety are correctly termed "whipper stoppers"

I know i started off with an anti stopper stance but after taking in the magnificence of my grade two stoppers i feel i have to make a opposite stance and in answer to CROSS i Have started
a stopper protection group .....The Right (to) Use Stoppers on the Snack bar henceforth known as TRUSS when i have members from all over the country we will be known as the National TRUSS . I have to go now as i have a manifesto to write may  i suggest before people make rash decisions they consider the parallel problem of random stoppers by reading this article

Before anyone is dumb and stupid enough to follow the Gazelle's link I would like to point out the site is about random stoppers (those people who suddenly stop in front of you when you are out walking) as oposed to the catering window health and safety shutters variety discussed in this thread.

I should know I followed it.....that Jess sounds a barrel of laughs...
Jess, 20, is studying magazine journalism. She loves being near the sea, hanging out with friends and shopping.

Absolutely loving whipper stoppers....

3 things from forum legend still make giggle when I think of them

1) Pete Read's story of standing next to the players tunnel, throwing out his fist and bellowing "C'MON ALTY" causing Lawrence Iro to flinch
2) Efan tha cuckoo
3) The Gateshead car story.

Whipper stoppers may yet become the next story of legend to pass down to our grandchildren.

Stoppers out...shame the MLF aint there anymore.
