Post by: gazwarrington on November 18, 2006, 09:55:05 AM
When you read this think about the goals he's going to score today
As you leave your house\flat\caravan\tent think of that wonder strike in the 56th minute
As you walk \ Drive \ Run \ Hop \ Train \ Metrolink \ Cycle to Moss Lane think of the joy on his face as he slots in at the Golf Road End
Think of the celebration as he runs towards the crowd and hugs every last ones of us.

Its going to happen. so come on people think positvely about the boy O'Neil and he WILL score.

COME ON ALTY

 ;D or :'( - ITS UP TO YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;)

You know Gaz, you might just be right!
Here's hoping he gets a couple to bring us home the 3 points

By the way, I think I'm right in saying that if he scores a hat-trick, he'd be the club's leading scorer!
Surely that would silence the critics (or am I getting carried away with myself!)  :D :D

Did I blink and miss his goal then?!

Having a shot now and then would be a start!

100% effort, but no goals!!!!

I thought he was diissappointing today, and should have been replaced on the hour?

Who should now be given a chance?

Thornley, Hendley, Thomson, Mcffadden

To quote my mate, who watches Premiership football
"Who's your number 12, he's a class player, shame no one else can get up to support him'

He was surprised that he gets so much stick. I explained its due to his lack of goals which he replied he looks like a target man who has no one with him.

He actually singled out O'Neill as one of the good players.

Let your mate's premiership club have him then. It would not be long before your mate would be moaning about him. One goal in 19 (NINETEEN) league matches. ???

get off joe o'neills back no wander he looks like he has no confidence because theres only a few of us who can see the skills he has, yesterday he held up the ball well and controled it well, and always seamed to find a good pass either inside to colin or val or out to the wing and to lewis. what he needs is for everyone to get behind him and cheer him on rather than picking at the tiny little things that are wrong with his game, granted he's never going to be a 20 goal a season man (we have colin for that) but it's only november and the season ends in may so there is plenty of time for him to get a partnership going with colin and then we can see what happens. he just needs suport (just like karl munroe, who many of us were calling for his head and saying he was awful, then we showed him suport and gave him confidence and now he is one of our better players)

Haven't we had this debate about the goalscoring ? Can only say so many times that he's there as a forward \ target man and NOT a striker.

I don't think just because he likes a player he should be playing in the Premiership ? Its odd that you would even think that. I like a fair few alty players but doubt they could walk into a Premiership side.

I think that Joe is a good target man who works his socks off. However he is going to score less than five a season and that is the problem facing Graham

Only a problem if we have no one next to him ?

We are Altrincham FC. We are not going to have two prolific strikers on the books. We are very lucky with Colin Little and if Joe and he can get a partnership going then all very good. It was good to finally see Mr Thomson get on also.

But the general performance of midfielders yesterday (and Colin did not have a good game yesterday IMHO) is that unless the ball is laid off to Colin then there is to be no goalscoring outcome. Even though Joe is better than it appears many supporters feel he does not offer another goalscoring option And that means that there is a problem if Colin is the only recognised goalscorer. At Conference level he will be marked out and denied space. That is the problem. And is there a divine right that says Alty cannot have two players capable of scoring more than ten goals a season?

Didn't realise the season finished on 18th November. Best tell the Missus that we can do fun things on weekends for the next 9 months. Good to know we've stayed up as well  ;D ;D

Don't understand the last reply at all. Sorry but it is beyond my educational level. I just don't believe the remark that said that "We are not going to have two prolific scorers on our books" is credible. There should be another player other than Colin who can score more tham ten in the season. I am more pro Joe than anti but he is never going to score ten in a season (but I will be happy to eat my words!!!)

I was merely saying that how do you know that Joe won't score 10 goals this season ?

I was also originally saying that to have 2 'Prolific' goalscorers would be very lucky. We are part time and can hardly afford players of such ability, yes granted we may unearth a gem from the Youth or local leagues but doubt they would last as season if that prolific. Its rare (but not unheard of) at any level that a football club has 2 goal machines on the books.

I think we all know Joe is not a goalscorer....however,if he gets the service,he will get us into really good positions.Last season,we had Colin trekking back to near the halfway line to get the ball to his feet. When Col feels ok with his foot again (I think he was a bit wary about it yesterday, hence why he didn't shoot when he normally would),we will probably see what we were seeing at the start of the season.Which was Joe laying it on for Little who would be put in great positions.I think someone mentioned the perfect example of this last week...Exeter where Joe held the ball, fed Colin, whose shot was well saved, but Lawton came in for the tap in.

In summary,O'Neill is one of the first names I have on my teamsheet, just for his all round game.If we are looking desparate in front of goal,we can always bring on Thornley or Thomson.

While we're on about players,Lawton MUST start in the middle,he is wasted on the right. When fully fit,my midfield would be Lawton and Bushell in the middle, with Chalmers on the left and Potts on the right (well,I did say fully fit).

I agree with the previous comment that we need more width!!

If we had tried Potts for the last half hour we might have got more efforts on target or crosses.
