Title: FRIDAY HALIFAX UPDATE THREAD
Post by: markecky on May 09, 2008, 11:56:51 AM
Their local paper is following things closely...

11.35am
Sponsorship in lieu of cash was turned down by creditors holding out for 10p in the pound, reports Brian Coates.
Businessman Gary Pearson was contacted by an intermediary on behalf of administrators this morning.
He runs Jacamast Ltd, of Huddersfield, and is owed £193,000 following work on the half-finished east stand.
"They were hoping to get something in place and I've been asked if I would accept sponsorship but I won't for that money," he said.
"We feel 10p is still a poor offer. We have to draw the line and that is where we are drawing the line."
Mr Pearson's stance is backed by Roy Barnett who is owned a similar sum for work on the stand.
"Sponsorship might not be worth anything," said Mr Pearson.

11.30am
Geoff Ralph, who left the meeting at 11.30am, told the Courier's Dave Fletcher talks were progressing but could take some time. A sticking point is understood to be how much was owed to the Inland Revenue.
It is thought two votes will be taken on any rescue package proposed - the first where 75 per cent of creditors need to agree and the second where a simple majority was required but only among creditors not directly involved with the club.

10.40am
As administrators frantically try to save Halifax Town this morning a major creditor refuses to compromise, reports Brian Coates.
Roy Barnett is owed nearly £200,000 and insisted he receives 10p in the pound rather than the 2.5p offered on Wednesday.
Speaking to the Courier 30 minutes into the 10am meeting he said: "The last I heard was there might be a short adjournment for a couple of hours to try and get the dividend increased.
"My position has not changed.
"I get £20,000 or I don't get anything. There is no room for negotiation.
"However they want to do it is up to them but at the end of it I get my £20,000.
"I believe they are still trying to do it."
His company R. M. Barnett Ltd, of Huddersfield, was involved in the building of the half finished Shay east stand.

10.15am
The meeting has now begun, reports Dave Fletcher from the Begbies Traynor offices in Leeds.
Halifax Town general manager Angie Firth, former commercial manager Andrew Pinfield, advisor Chris Yewdall and former chairman Geoff Ralph turned up and it is understood much of the negotiations with creditors may be carried out on the telephone.
Major creditors including Jacamast Ltd and R. M. Barnett Ltd were not present.
Halifax Town manager Chris Wilder was understood to be holding talks with players at the Shay at the same time.

Friday May 9 - 9.00am
Halifax Town officials and creditors are making their way along the M62 to the Leeds offices of administrators Begbies Traynor for the adjourned creditors' meeting.

Proceedings are due to start at 10am with the future of the club in the balance.

The first meeting on Wednesday had to be abandoned when major creditors refused to accept 2.5p in the pound in settlement of debts.

Instead, they demanded a minimum of 10p.

Administrator Rob Sadler now has to persuade potential new owners to increase the offer which would take their total outlay for taking control of the club to around £800,000.

Without an agreement, the club will fail to gain membership of the Blue Square Premier League for the 2008/09 season, and could face liquidation.

Keep up to date with the day's developments right here.

12.10pm
Talks are continuing into the afternoon which is pushing time limits to the brink.
Earlier indications from administrators suggested a decision either way would be known by lunchtime.
If a deal is struck the necessary paperwork has to be completed today to meet deadlines set by the football authorities.

You've got to admire the brinksmanship!

However I'm still depressingly confident that a deal will be struck  :(

The meeting has now broken up for lunch. Due to resume at 1pm.

Talk about a quick lunch! We get 2 hours here in France!

I bet that will be an interesting lunch, I bet many a deal has been brokered over an egg mayo buttie and a packet of crisps. And there was me thinking they were pushed for time!

Who needs golf courses when you have egg mayo butties, incidentally who has paid for these butties, another creditor to the list?

Sheila of Hebden Bridge based catering firm 'Brilliant Butties' is owed a sum of £72.50 by Halifax and is steadfast in her refusal to accept the 2.5p offer, she is holding out for 10p in the pound.

Why do i get the feeling, that no matter when they set the deadline as...it would have run right up to (if not over!) the proverbial "wire".

Its  worth remembering (and I get the impression Halifax fans on here won't) that even they agree the cva, they still have to satisfy the conference of future plans, ground stuff etc.

Title: Re: FRIDAY HALIFAX UPDATE THREAD

I am still sure its the ground development that will hinder them staying in this league. I have always thought they'd get the finances sorted but now having to pay more, and the time this is taken up will I feel it will have stopped the plans that they have to have in place.

I cant eveny imagine how Halifax fans are doing right now cos I'm a wreck .. Yet again in May/June

Former chairman Geoff Ralph has just been called back to the meeting.

1.05pm
The meeting has resumed.
A progress report is thought to be underway with the club's situation over the Inland Revenue.

sorry gaz, but ground has nothing to do with the football or rugby club. The Ground is essentially owend by the Council, and is administered by the Shay Stadium Trust.

The Council has agreed(finally) to spend 2.7million to complete the stand, While the Shay Stadium trust(which is made up of several groups of ppl including reps from the football and rugby clubs) is looking to raise 1million to kit out the new stand i.e. club shops, bars, etc, etc.

Work is to begin at end of June and finish by end of december.

hence why us town fans are so desperate from the takeover to happen, as with the stan dfinailly finished we will be able to make money from it.

Thanks for clearing that up but don't the Conference want written proof from the council then ? As this ground development has been going on for sometime hasn't it?

I honestly wish your club well but am obviously watching this from our point of view, as I'm sure you would if the other way round ?

My honest opinion when you are losing £30,000 a week is to reform at a lower level but maybe these takeover people will sort it out ?

So they want to write off 90% of their debt then spend £1million on the stadium. Relegate the pisstakers now.
Title: Re: FRIDAY HALIFAX UPDATE THREAD
Post by: shaymen down under on May 09, 2008, 02:17:32 PM
no, the club will not have to raise a million, the Shay Stadium Trust has to, which only has a representative from the clubs on it. The SHAY STADIUM TRUST will find the 1million not HALIFAX TOWN.

And Gaz, the reason the conference are on our cases about the ground, had something to do about it being 3 sided at first...(which i find quite funny, considering half the league only use 3 sided grounds) and the 2nd thing was, that there were inadequate corporate facilties at the ground, basically you had  towalk fron the weavers(sponsors/bar resturant at ground) then outside the ground through main carpark and then back in to go sit in the seats on the east stand.

Surely if this is the case then its a complete scam.

'We'll wipe out 90% of the debt and then when the club finally becomes solvent with the new stand we can keep all of the money made.'

It all seems a bit pre-meditated to me. You stay up, become debt free, and lose the constraints which were putting you into debt with the new stand. Whats even better, is the people who take over will not be funding the new stand any way and taking on a fraction of the real debt. You're getting away with almost everything for free if thats correct?

Im sorry but a line has to be drawn and we should be on the BSP side of the line, and you lot under it. Its a complete scam.

Latest from Halifax Courier
2.35pm
Halifax Town appear to be heading for liquidation.
Administrator Rob Sadler told the Courier's Dave Fletcher today the debt to the Inland Revenue appeared insurmountable.
Initial estimates had put the amount Halifax Town owed at £500,000 - but the meeting was told the figure was around £814,000.
He said this was likely to mean the end of the club.
"The cleanest way forward is to start from the bottom and build up again debt free."

Not sure we could afford their wages either  ;)

I hope that Halifax will carry on the clubs identity in some way, with the use of the shay stadium and be allowed to start in the highest level possible. Minimal heartache for the fans and an opportunity to get all the sharks away from the club that got you in this mess.

In the next few years you will find out who the true halifax fans are. I honestly wish you the best of luck in rising back up and playing alty again as soon as possible.

Yes I did mean month VOD ....

And to the Halifax fans if anything is confirmed its not cos we are happy about what is happening at your club just that we get a reprieve.

No one wants to see a club go under and we have been watching closely today as it does have a knock on effect with our club.

If its true, I feel very very sorry for the true Halifax fans.  I would hate that to happen to Alty.

As I said on another thread, it won't feel like it today but it could be the best thing thats ever happened to them.  It could unify the support, clear the debt and give them a determination to rise like Aldershot and get back in the league.  Current directors will no longer have to pay for past mistakes.

I hope they do it.

From BBC Radio Leeds:

"Halifax Town have all but gone out of existence having failed to get
their rescue package past the creditors today.

At ten past two this afternoon Halifax Town's administrator Rob Sadler
announced that he had failed to get the rescue package through. The
Inland Revenue's policy of saying no meant that the club could not get
the 75 percent vote needed. Ironically if Halifax's debt had been two
and  a half million pounds rather than two million pounds, they might at
this stage still be safe.

What happens now is that the club will be relegated out of Blue Square
Premier and Blue Square North, and according to the administrator has
only a slim chance of fetching up in the Unibond League.

It's doubtful that the consortium who have been trying to buy the club
for a year will remain interested, and so it's expected that the
administrators Begbies Traynor will sack all the staff including manager
Chris Wilder and release any players still on contract."

The problem was that most Halifax fans on the forum were aggressive towards Alty, giving a false impression as a whole.  Jezza's post on your forum was well put i thought, merely seeking to show our side of the situation.  The response to it was pathetic.

I'm sorry to see any club go in such a state, but i feel tougher financial rules are necessary in football along with rules on the owners of clubs.  Acceptance of the 2.5p in the pound offer would have been other hit to the creditibility of the Conference.

He's been making something of a comeback, he was on a major chat show here in Ireland a few weeks ago and had a double page spread in the Sunday Times recently. Attila the Stockbroker and Seething Wells anyone?

Back on topic. If Halifax have gone, I am saddened, as I said on another thread the football authorities need to get their house in order and legislate so that this sort of thing can not happen again. Feel sorry for the Halifax fans. Obviously we will take any reprieve going, but it is becoming embarrassing.

But why doesn't the BBC story give any mention at the fact that Altrincham have / will be reprieved and mention that they are a solvent club instead of making us sound like a bunch of lucky B*****ds !!

Let's be honest....we are a "bunch of lucky b*****ds" though to a fair degree!

I'm sorry and this is harsh on Halifax fans and I'm sorry but how can we be lucky if another team pays more than they can afford to be better than us ?

Exactly. For "lucky" substitute "good housekeeping". ;D

Yes, these teams overspending effectively dig their own graves.....but the fact that it looks probable that we have experienced an unprecendented sequence of three consecutive reprieves surely demonstrates that an element of good fortune has come our way?

Anyhow, if I now don't have to go to watch Alty at Alfreton next season, I will certainly consider myself fortunate....!

pre-season friendly is a great idea, remember we maybe reprieved but there was no Alty fans at the creditors meeting today, hopefully clubs like Huddersfield and Bradford and Leeds will give you preseason games and a bag full of money to start with

You've got to admire the brinksmanship!

However I'm still depressingly confident that a deal will be struck  :(

O dear  :'(

Hope I'm not correct after all!
