I know that we have offered a contract to a lad I know who is currently at a BSN club.  I posted details but got told to delete it as it may not do us any favours.

He is pacey and skilfull and plays left back most of the time, problem is Vics have offered him a contract too apparently!

I know the guy you mean Longman. He is a decent left back, but I rate Andrew Smart better.

I couldn't comment, as to be honest I've only ever seen said player when he's played for our six a side team a few times, so I've never actually seen him in the context of an 11 a side semi pro game.  However he is untouchable on the astro at six a side and absolutely rapid to boot!

Jeff Whitley sounds good, provided he is keeping his fitness.

Signing Shotton seems way too optimistic, i expect him to be loaned out to a league 1/2 clubs this year.  How has his brother Liam been getting on?  If he has potential we should get a good reference. :)

Vics have just awarded their regular left back a new contract. Surely they can't want to sign everyone up! Wasn't serious about Ryan. Just wishful thinking really.

Oh just been thinking about this (it's actually the best part of the season before reality hits actually).

Bolland to partner Young in centre defence. JJ at left back.

Hadn't thought of Bentham but yeah any decent right winger will do. Don't think we could get Craney back in a milion years even though he'd be ideal for our midfield. So get King in from Rotherham (bring Cahill back too). Would like to see Jeff Whitley. I know he's an Urmston lad and used to play with Charles Heathcote (and Danny Higginbotham, come on mate, Sunderland don't need you that much get down to ML for a couple of seasons)

Perhaps Neil Sorvel who's just been released by Macc, must be about 80 but see if he can do the calm midfield bit any better than Bushell/Sedgemore/Whalley. Might be a mate of Little's from their time at Crewe. Plus we can continue our ex Macc players Bingo game  ;D

And a lump, a big f**king lump up front like Leo Fortune-West. I don't care who, how or how much. I would love to see a physical presence at Moss Lane again.

Oh and if money was no object, Ellison and Yeo.

There was talk of norton having a young family so don't want to move from curzon, from when i've seen norton he's been really good, goals aside he is industrious(sp) and quick thinking will drop back into a am role and put in the killer ball he is BSN quality at least BSP reserve probably. with that in mind he aint worth signing to sit on our bench next season

Some good calls there Jacobs. I forgot the Halifax lads. Quinn in particular would be a useful partner for his mate Greg Young. Damien Reeves is probably league-bound to be honest, but Gareth Seddon at Hyde might be a useful addition. I saw Danny Holland play recently and he didn't really impress, but his record is decent. Notice that Andrew Smart keeps coming up - he's a real tough customer and I don't see many wingers getting past him!

Somebody else will be able to confirm this, but wasn't Andrew Smart an Altrincham Youth Team player a few years ago.....before he went to Macc?

If so, yet another example of the failure to build a link between the Youth Team and the First Team.

After all, we've been blessed by a host of decent left full backs in recent years, haven't we?!

Andrew Smart played in the Altrincham Youth team season 2002-2003. He only played 2 games as he was a registered schoolboy with Macclesfield Town. He was a pupil @ Altrincham G.S. He couldn't always get across to Macclesfield for training so they contacted me to see if we could help. Believe it or not I still have a good working relationship with them, whereby they recommend players who won't fit in with a League 2 club.  Tomorrow night ALTRINCHAM YOUTH v. NANTWICH TOWN K.O. 7.00 p.m. @ Wythenshawe Town.  We've got to win this to still be in with a shout for the League title.  WE COULD DO WITH ALL THE SUPPORT WE CAN GET. PLEASE HELP!

I'm going to get ahead of myself a bit here and this thread is just a little bit of fun but FGR have released Lee Dodgson, a quick winger who can play on either flanj and has impressed me whenever I've seen (and played against) him.

He's a Morecambe lad, so now he's been released he'll probably have to come back up to the north west.  ???

Not sure if we were after him but fair play to Maamria, we spent most of last season scrathing around for a left back. In the past week he's given a 2 year contract to his current left back Ryan Brown, signed Richie Sutton (Stafford's left back) and now if Brian is correct this left back from Southport.

Come on Dino, play fair, share the wealth.  :)

This MUST be the season where speculation for accumulation is required on the playing side. Nothing daft, but if it doesn't happen we'll almost certainly be on here this time year wondering if we'll get a 4th reprieve. After 3 seasons, it's got to be clear to the board that the playing side needs an injection of improvement.

Will be interesting to see what happens....

My honest belief is this season is make or break.  We have the prep time and can really go for it, and finish out of the zone. If we don't I wouldn't be surprised if we don't make it to 4th bottom.

Browns a full back then.  ;)

Is Sutton the lad who played at right back against us and also moved into the centre of defence, he was moderate but better than hte lad who was at left back for Stafford. He was gash.

No mate did'nt play with Johny Howson.  Yes I do play with Bazza (Paul Barratt) now and then, he plays for our six a side team occasionally.  I also play with Lee Mannion, who you may recall was at Alty, he's coaching the kids at Crewe now.

I'm going to give Bazza some serious stick about signing for the green slime.  :P

Any of this lot from Chester worth looking at? Is Yeo past it or can he do a job?

Chester City manager Simon Davies has started the process of rebuilding his squad for next season's campaign.
Former Everton midfielder Tony Grant, plus Sean Hessey, Simon Marples, Phil Palethorpe, Simon Yeo, Dean Bennett and Adam Walker have all been released.
Title: Re: Wanted players for the new season - opinions and wishes?

Grant and Yeo would be worth a punt in my opinion.
However, Yeo will probably go back to his roots at Hyde (for more money than we can offer him no doubt) and Grant will stay FT somewhere else in the league (probably at Accrington with all the others who get a lift from Liverpool to training with Coleman).

I think Grant has already been at Accy, that's where Chester got him from.

I'd have Yeo like a shot.

Adam Walker is ex Alty youth/reserve.

ADAM WALKER can play RMF or LMF. Occasiionally used in the Youth team up front as welll but mainly on the flanks MF.
